Please ban me, if this is a wrong forum to ask such questions.

With black Friday around (it became a thing even in Germany), and my kid (mostly Fortnight) asking for "just a monitor" and with my spouse weighing in, cough, I got to buy something.

"It must be an OLED" is my requirement.

But I'm lost beyond that.

So Samsung has that QD OLED, a real OLED, not QLED bazinga that is better than LG's oldies?
But LG has the "UltraGear" bazinga with "Micro Lens Array+" which is, sorta... on par? Better?
"Great monitor in HDR mode, but in SD..." uh, what?

Other than that, 27" is what I found reasonable, with 34" curved (a bit) as a possible option, if son likes it.

Has anyone researched this field recently and could share?
Did you buy an OLED monitor recently are are happy/unhappy with it?

Anyway, I'm sure HeisenbergFX4 would have some valuable insight here. As for myself, I bought a ROG Swift PG32UCDM earlier this year. Solid monitor, no complaints, though I don't know if it's objectively the "best" OLED monitor available out there.

Budget?

Is this for PC use only or consoles or both?

At 27" I assume you are ok with 1440p? (which I think is perfect at that size)

How many devices are you hooking up to it?

And yeah I have too many monitors and tested a lot of the OLED ones

Budget: I was thinking 700-ish, but it is not a hard limit
1440p is acceptable
Only PC will be hooked permanently.
Occasionally maybe Steam Deck, Switch, PS4 but not that important.

The best deal I have seen in that price range is this LG Black Friday special at $599 which for an OLED monitor is a steal imo

Its been awhile since I used it but do recall text being on the fuzzy side

Like OverHeat mentioned bumping up to a 32" is a nice upgrade because you can find 4k and everything is clearer but also comes at a price

I think MSI makes the cheapest 32" 4k OLEDs with these having the same panel just one has more features, one priced at $799 and the other at $899

The cheapest one only maxes out at 165 FPS while the other goes up to 240 fps and makes updating firmware much easier

I just bought the Gigabyte Aorus FO27Q2 27" 240Hz QD-OLED. A bit overkill for me as i only game on the PS5 pro, but i've been wanting to get an oled for a while. Also wanted something with HDMI 2.1 so i could definitely use VRR with the console. Picked it up for £647.97 from Amazon UK, so for an oled i would say thats pretty budget.

Mamazone dropped the price on MSI by 50-ish.
Also on other items... making my choice harder:


Alienware AW3225QF - 899 Euro, great connectivity... but dislike it being curved and.. AMD free-sync premium"no", huh?
MSI MAG 321UPX - 879 Euro, meh connectivity, of USB, only one slot, USB-C with 15W PD (outrageous, and URX is 300 more...)

And now I'm scratching my head if 34" ultra-wides are a reasonable option. Will probably drive to a store to see things in person.

Which rules out the AW3225QF.

Are there alternatives to MSI MAG321 UPX that are reasonably priced in Germany and do not suck on KVM front, or, god forbid me for asking so much for nearly a 1k device, USB-C power delivery with non-laughable wattage?

I know a lot of people will scoff at it because it's not Asus/Samsung/Alienware but I bought the KTC OLED and I love it and actually returned one of the ASUS monitor to keep it.

The KTC is 1440p/240hz, has USB C with 65w of power delivery, 2 5w speakers which actually don't sound like shit, and the best part is right now it's only $509. I paid $550 after tax which is basically half of most of the others and for me has better features then the majority of the others (I use USB C a lot, and actually use speakers quite often and don't like having desktop speakers).

Got myself a Samsung Oled G8 32 inch 4k240hz.. Really good stuff, and the best part is it has a really good antiglare layer that doesn't kill the picture while still doing its job.

( I'm not saying this is the best, but it is my best, and yes, it is quite expensive. That's why i paid it off in monthly interest-free payments that i could actually afford.)

I got the GS93C Samsung OLED about 3 months ago and have been blown away by it. It is my first OLED screen that's not a mobile device. It's also my 2nd curved monitor. Though this curve is less than my previous (1800r vs 1000r) it still feels really immersion. Plus, it's 49", but it being 32:9 it doesn't feel that big vs a 49" TV for example, but still needs room (using a desk arm mount helps)

I went from a 4k G3223Q to this and was worried about clarification issues with text, etc, but I have to say I've had zero issues. I don't edit video or program, etc, but I love gaming on this, even with games that don't support 32:9.

(Someone below said OLED is "terrible" for web browsing. In my experience it's absolutely not terrible, in fact I love browsing the web on this monitor. I watch videos in a web browser too and they are perfect. So not sure if they are talking about bad experiences vs my great experience, but thought I'd add this on as it was a blanket statement by them)

Good for gaming, bad for anything else on PC. I guess I'm old school but I use my PC for everything. Web browsing, music, videos, games, productivity, etc. It's my main entertainment hub.

Gaming looks amazing on OLED but if you are web browsing, text isn't very clear and if you have a lot of bright screens (which you will), you'll get constant brightening and dimming of the screen which is annoying to me.

If you ONLY game on PC, I'd go OLED (I don't understand these people...) but if you want to do more than that, I'd probably just go IPS, Nanon IPS or Mini LED.

I recently got the Gigabyte Aorus fo32u2p, and it's by far the best monitor i've ever had. 4k oled, 240hz.

Before that I used the Samsung G6 OLED, which was good as well, and had an impressive 360hz, but the jump to 4K and 32" is quite big. And the colours pop a lot more on the Aorus OLED.

I have an 48" LG oled which is pretty good though the big downside is it takes 10 secs to turn on.

Also EVERY big monitor needs to have split screen split source ability. This monitor would be close to perfect if it had that.

I would even be tempted to buy a horrible ultra wide if it had that option.
