I'm not sure what the best American show ever is, but the best British show is the sitcom Only Fools and Horses, set at the beginning of 80s South London. It's very well regarded from people I've met from different (even rural) backgrounds.

Hard to pick. The Sopranos and Breaking Bad are definitely up there.

I think most people would agree Game of Thrones prior to Season 5 was the greatest show of all time. Quality slipped in Season 5 and 6, and then tanked after that. But when that show was in it's prime, there was nothing like it. Even to this day there have been plenty of high budget fantasy shoes that have tried to recapture GoT's success, and none have come close.

Currently watching the sopranos again. Just saw aj give his mum the matrix on dvd. Pretty funny considering and on purpose due to ralfie being cypher.

In terms of writing and well written characters I don't think anything comes close to the sopranos. All of the characters are just so believable.

I think breaking bad is the better show though.

I love the sopranos and the wire about equally. Breaking bad is good too, if a bit more fantastical

I'm trying to decide who I love watch busting balls more. Ralphie calling Paulie's mom and saying he got busted sucking a cubscout's dick, or Rawls berating and demoting folks in compstat meetings.

The Simpsons first I think 7 seasons were awesome. Then something changed and it was like a 180 and I bailed . I don’t think I’ve watched one episode since season 9 or 10 where I randomly gave the series a try again back then and it still never clicked. But those early year ones were hilarious. There was something about the cruder animation and jokes that seemed way funnier to me in those early years.
I’m good with it til Season 32.
By 32 the VA for Marge sounds like her mother. (I’m not kidding nor exaggerating)
Apu is long gone.
Dr Hibbit, Lou, and Carl all got replaced with new VA’s who sound nothing like their characters.

It had a good run but it’s dead to me now.

Picking 1 is hard, American series i would say The X files is up there, i was a big fan in the 90's and re watch them quite a bit, English comedy i agree with Red Dwarf and Only Fools and Horses and GOT was until season 7!.

I'm in the minority that LOVED season 7 lol

I also liked the first 3 episodes of season 8. Them rushing the end instead of letting Dani go mad over 2 seasons sucked

Fair play to you lol, but i just went WTF when i watched them.
Jon Snow meeting The Queen was kinda long awaited. The battles were awesome. Beyond the wall stuff was epic.

I dunno, I just loved it. The show went steeply down after the night King bit it for me, but I enjoyed it till then.

Yeah i knew when the books ran out that the TV writing would be different, and not as good but there was quite a bit of fan fiction and things were happening that didn't make sense, like the teleporting pirate fleet etc, i'm not critizicing anyone that does like season 7 and 8, but i stopped buying the blurays box set at Season 6 lol

HBO's Rome. It's the only series that I can watch from beginning to end multiple times and never get bored. Such a shame it got cancelled after 2 seasons.

Would be my pick for the best British show. Endlessly rewatchable.

Oh man, I used to actually like that! :messenger_unamused:

I swear to god the older I get the worst everything's getting these days. All my child hood memories have been utterly obliterated.

Imagine being a music fan these days, that's where the focus seems to be.

It's good not to get too wrapped up in celebrity/fan stuff. Feet of clay and all that.

Everyone we forgot about one huge show. One show that has a ton of awards. While it drooped in quality over the years, still very watchable…

Don't have a greatest of all time, maybe Seinfeld?

but Buffy is a strong contender for me. Really good character development all around, character actually evolve, change, grey. For a teen show it was really well done.

Also, FireFly.

Also, Veep.

Dexter was a favorite, walking dead looking back had great memories, fear of the walking dead became its own thing. TV is different, into the badlands, banshee, the penguin, justice league, game of thrones, the last kingdom, Oz, love to see good tv series.

I don't even like crime dramas/cop shows/stories about drugs/etc and I still think Breaking Bad was the best TV show of all time. The writing, delivery, casting, and pacing were insanely good for that show.

I think the first few seasons of Ozark almost hit the same highs, but boy did that one fall off at the end. Also House until the OG doctors got replaced by Kumar and the gang.
