What's your opinion on being stuck in games?

I'm now playing Arkham Knight and I'm a stuck there, trying to understand what to do next. But I like it, so it's fun for me!

I remember there was a room with four collumns you could rotate (to solve a puzzle), in Tomb Raider Anniversary (which I recently finished) and was so stuck there I had to look for the answer on the internet.

What do you think of being stuck in games? Is it fun for you? What do you think of MC telling what to do next? Any recent experiences of being stuck?

Diablo 4 this day.

I was just stuck on Torment 3 for about a week. I was just about to spec out of my frankenbuild and go to a meta, but then I discovered if you use all the little boss items you find at the alters they will drop guaranteed uniques. I was able to get a purple drop and 2 really good unique rolls after a couple dozen Torment 3 bosses, did a mild respec and moved some aspects around and behold! I beat pit 65 last night and unlocked torment 4. Blizzard says Torment 4 is unobtainable for most players, so I felt really fucking good about it bro. Really fucking good.

I felt like, nay, I AM the Prince of all Saiyans!

I bet you transformed into SSJ3 out of beating that!

If i get stuck because of the difficulty then i take a break and come back to it.
If i get stuck because of game breaking glitches, i uninstall the game. This happened to me several times in Prey.

I typically do not like it. If a puzzle isn't too hard to solve and not frequent that is fine. When they become a chore like in the latest Indiana Jones because of the frequency and how it breaks up the pace of the game, I find them annoying.

Stuck against a boss? Cool.

Stuck within an exploration/puzzle scenario in which you have no clue about what to do? Fuck that.
Yeah man, some puzzles like in the Zelda series I really enjoy because most of the time they are easy or simply logical.

As much as I enjoyed Uncharted I always thought the puzzles were a boring waste of time ‘look in this old book to know which order the animal statues should be in but one of the pages is torn out’ it’s just shit. The one at the start of Uncharted 4 when you’re in a cell on the island and you have to select a brick to get out - still have no clue WTF that’s about even though I’ve played the game 4 times.

make sure the pudding isn't too soggy but that just ruins everything
Depends whether or not the "stuck" is part of the core, known mechanic of the game (like a difficulty wall / test of a new monster in monster hunter that makes you craft new equipment or get good) or some stupid fucking bullshit... like sneaking missions with Manly Jane in Spiderman, etc...

I don't mind being stuck unless it's gotten to a point where I have tried long enough and haven't succeeded.

In which case I will resort to a guide or tips online.
Yes, like my Tomb Raider example, it was really, really fun but it was so difficult to line those symbols. It's the part where if you turn one of the four collumns the other two will rotate also, and that one other of the four won't...

at this points games are so basic that I become somewhat happy when something makes me feel stuck. I remember in divinity 2 there was this door that was missing a lever. I just couldn't find it. turns out you could just craft it. well I wasn't aware it was a craftable item at all. I really wasn't mad that much, I spent 15 minutes to find it but couldn't find it.

anyways some people get mad at stuff like this but I actually find it a unique part of the gaming experience

This 100%

If it's a boss,I always try till I do it,even if I have to take a break and play the next day (pisses me off though and I literally think about how I can do it while I'm in bed)

Puzzles I take my time and try and work every logical solution,if I've been stuck for more than 30 mins then I check a guide and see what I missed. Usually I would have never have gotten the answer because it is just so ridiculous so I don't feel bad.

It may be annoying especially on Point and Click Adventures. Good thing internet reduces the frustration.
Yep had some of those ad a kid wasn't fun having no clue but whatever. These days I say fuck it, ain't got time to waste going rounds without a clue though it's less common with modern games holding your hand already.

On the other hand fuck Promised Consort Radahn that was some serious shit stopping me from finishing the game for 2 days :D

the OP references puzzles mostly which you either solve or you don't, usually the former, but getting stuck due to difficult parts that you need to get good can be rewarding, or so frustrating you give up on the game depending on whether you actually do get good or not.

Figuring a section out can be satisfying OR if the game already kind of sucked I'll just stop playing it.

I've played 1000s of games at this point and I always get stuff on sale, so I don't feel pressured if the game hasn't really drawn me in.

Stuck for me is knowing what needs to be done but still unable to do it.
Almost always its a timed based thing vs my own skill to make it happen.
Timed based things I have the least will to suffer and will often quit and delete.

I like being stuck from time to time more than I like a coasting ride. I think it's very hard for a developer to hit that perfect stride in the middle where you are receiving "aha" moments often because games are for such a big audience with varying levels of competency and whatnot. But if push comes to shove, I'd rather be stalled out than never have that problem at all.

I bought a sex doll, but I keep it inflated 100% of the time and use it like a regular wife
It depends. If it seems like a well designed puzzle and the game's fun enough, I'll do my best to solve it on my own.

If it's a chore I'll probably google up the solution. I don't do that often tho, and it always leave me with a sense of regret. Last time I did so was while playing SMT III, fuck that Puzzle Boy minigame.

Dont really get stuck on modern games- generally they kind of hold your hand.
Growing up and playing Tomb Raider like you mentioned....yea i bought strategy guides every year. Stuck Stuck lol

Most recent stuck and why I unfortunately dislike the games? Jedi Survivor series.
The map is so so horrible you just get lost with what to do next. Its not even stuck. Its fucking clueless. Shame too

I take a break, it's probably my mind. Some games like destiny requires online connection to make progress and not a close progress actually but I still don't care, unless I have the mental capacity then I continue playing.

If I hit a wall, it entirely depends on how much I want to get over, round, or through it.

If I'm just about managing to play a game to begin with I'm not going to waste my time. My brain is already barely engaged and there's no point dedicating any more effort to it. I recently didn't see the answer to a puzzle in Daymare 1998 and after a couple goes I realised I don't care enough to continue, so I uninstalled it. No loss.

If I'm enjoying myself, bring it on. I'll dedicate time to your puzzle or keep searching until I'm out of options. I recently overlooked something in RE8 and it was purely because I overlooked an item in a room. Kicked myself when I finally noticed it.

Sometimes you really just don't see it and need a fresh pair of eyes. You can either come back another day or quickly look up the answer and be on your way.

The above is more about puzzles, but the same applies to gameplay. Sekiro had some walls, but I got through them because the game was excellent.

Try every conceivable way I can possibly think to overcome the issue, if I can't I'll Google 'how to' for a little hint. If that fails and I've spent ages on the situation I just Google the solution if it's a puzzle or a walkthrough of the area.

Let me solve it or work out what I need to do, else what's the point?
I remember being told that I need to play Uncharted 4. I got so fed up with that game constantly telling me how to solve the puzzle while I was in the middle of working it out. Shut the fuck up and let me do it

Yes, it sucks.

You could always take the cowards way out and YouTube or Google it. Chances are you can figure out close to where you are/were before you foolishly quit for an extended period of time 😅

Edit: Sorry, I think I'm confusing "git gud" with "I can't remember what to do" 😂

Depends on the game and why I got stuck.
Like if it's a game about exploration and the whole point of the game is figuring out where to go an what to do (like The Outer Wilds), I like it.
If it's an action game where the focus is the combat but then suddenly you are forced into some lengthy and convoluted puzzle or something like that, then I generally find it annoying and I'll probably look up a guide if I get stuck.

What's also annoying is that especially with modern games you can never be sure if you are actually stuck or if the game is bugged. I've had several instances of spending 20 minutes trying to find the way forward only to look it up online and realize a door that should have open after a fight just didn't for some reason.

I don't understand anything you just said, which is probably why I don't play Diablo.

I was stuck in a room in Avowed and I thought either the door glitched or I wasn’t doing something right. Turns out I needed to jump on a shelf and then jump out of the room. It was stupid but it took me like 7-8 minutes of shooting everything in that room.

I have this feeling when I go into a room or can’t progress without retracing my steps or looking closely at everything around me. I can’t recall the titles, but some games will make you pass time before they mention the next objective. Avowed has one character quest for Kai where it’s just waiting or exploring. Kills my motivation to see the quest through to the end.

If anything, games with selectable difficulties are harder than games without.
