Lmao in what world are you living?Agree they have to do more now which they wouldn't needed to if they stuck with Socom, Mag and The Getaway.

this because all of you wanted to trust that BS gamepass model isn't sustainable. Jim Ryan said that to make their fan base scared about that model and then triumphantly would have repeated what was said left and right by passing the narrative gamepass = bad.We won't ever know, when these decisions were made. But, I do think departure of guy in my avatar, in addition to shuffling of Yoshida to Indie role basically meant leadership were taking a different approach going forward. Shawn Layden was first boss under whose tenure, a PlayStation game hit PC, which was Predator and he did say, they were considering this strategy for Multi-player games but Single-players were being locked into PlayStation. This all changed under Jim Ryan, and more specifically under Hermen Hulst. From, what I have read of his interviews, Hermen is very business oriented guy, repeatedly pointing out a number of times how not making tentpoles cross-gen is "terrible business" and how "they are leaving money off the table" if they don't make certain games cross-gen, or they don't port.
I think both him, Ryan and other men are keeping profitability was at the forefront, and losing sight of the fact, that their business of PlayStation is not as infallible as they perceive it to be. It's greatest strength is quality of first party exclusives, but committing to porting every PS exclusive is diluting one key and perhaps biggest pull towards a PlayStation hardware. Also. what has made it a juggernaut, is that it has been the default platform for everything 3rd party and they enjoy a consistent 30% cut off every sale and MTX. I am amazed, they are willing to gamble all of this to chase $50m per port on PC.
They are trying to emulate Microsoft, but fail to realize, that Microsoft end goal is to not sell 100s of million of Xbox, or to be the major platform holder for 3rd party, so they can enjoy the store benefits. They are moving beyond all of that and basically creating a storefront and service in form of GamePass. Sony, on the other hand, don't have this luxury. Their attempts at both Cloud Gaming and Subscription Service are half-assed and they themselves have said, that they type of games they fund are not sustainable within this model. So, if there's one platform which absolutely needs hardware to survive and thrive, it's PlayStation. But, not only are they losing some juggernaut 3rd parties, they are simultaneously diluting their own IPs by porting them onto PC. It's a baffling strategy, and I can't make any sense of it.
They won't make a first party PS exclusive shooter. Only if something doesn't fill the void will they do it. Exclusivity only lowers sales for a franchise and lowers the chance of success which is why MAG, Socom, and The Getaway died as a franchise. Even Halo died eventually and got overtaken by COD. Some other shooter akin to Fortnite or Destiny will just come along and fill the void. If they sense that a particular genre is swaying people elsewhere then they will just revive it.Sony first party was a complete non factor at the time they were making games like MAG and The Getaway. They have a strong enough first party portfolio to build a userbase off on their own. Buy they do need to do more now
you cannot seriously compare this to the start of xbox one / ps4They said they have 20+ games in the making, both SP- and MP-focused, and games nowadays take years to make, so there might not be anything specific to announce yet, but they surely have a long-ter plan put into motion.
People seem to have a really short memory, Sony always has a sloppy start of each generation, but ~3 years later they start gaining serious momentum and never slow down. So give them another year or two and we'll start seeing Sony constantly getting the headlines.
oh yeah, he definitely comes off as salty. I havent heard a peep from any of the big name directors on twitter. I bet they all see the writing on the wall. This will definitely cut their studio budget and the delays Sony so consistently afforded them. They cannot be happy about this.

The reality of the facts is instead that gamepass belongs to another 7 million subscribers. Forza h5 has sold millions of copies full price pre-launch and Halo is second just at COD in NDP physical sales.
You will see a 180 when they will release everything day on on their future service
In the real world.
Most of Sonys revenue is coming from Hardware sales and PS Plus being bought by people playing games like COD, GTA and FIFA. Majority of these gamers are casual. Sony first party titles though huge pale in comparison to these games.
Thus games like Socom, Mag and the Getaway should never have been ditched.
Casuals are buying COD because it's COD, not because it's a FPS
Developers and publishers have been trying ro replicate CODs success for over a decade and they've all failed
In my opinion casuals are starting after this holidays sales to know what gamepass is about and this is very dangerous for Sony. Imho a service with all legacy games + psnow + day one new release + third party ala psplus would have content enough to satisfy people that love sony things. These posts baffle me
You're one of the first ones to jump up and say Sony can't get in a bidding war with Microsoft and yet you go on and on about how Sony needs to get into a content war with Microsoft
Or you know it's losing game for Sony which is why you want them to do it
People will pay... just check how prices skyrocketed last year for a lot of stuff and people are paying...Well, they can try charging that, but people won’t pay it.
It will go up, for sure, but it will have to remain in the ‘subscription range’.
Who said anything about FPS?
Games like Valorant, Overwatch, Battlefield, PUBG, Fortnite and Rainbow Six to name a few have shown there's still space for Sony having its own Multiplayer shooter.
Socom and Mag had the potential if Sony had stuck with them.
Same applies with The Getaway.
Sony is in dire need to bring back the casuals after this acquisition by Microsoft.
They have nothing except Spiderman.

I don't know if sony can compete on content without substantial increasing their first party studios but honestly what else could it do to stay competitive? Other God of war uncharted and Horizon every 3 years at 81 euros each one?
I get where you're going but MAG and SOCOM were trash and the devs had no ability to compete with the best. They released SOCOM 4 in 2011 and it was a complete dumpster fireWho said anything about FPS?

I suspect we’ll see Gold and Silver Tier Membership and when CoD drops, you’ll have to have the higher level membership.People will pay... just check how prices skyrocketed last year for a lot of stuff and people are paying...
You not gonna have an option. Consumer will need to pay.To recover this 80bn on the next 15-20 years the price of gamepass will rise and it is not gonna be only $5.
Revenue and everything else comes from having a massive install base. A lot of people will now be factoring in the possibility of COD not being on PlayStation when they upgrade their consoles.First of all: All of these titles have to release before we talk about lost moneyBesides that, yes nothing has changed. SONY still owns some of the best-selling IP´s and development studios in the gaming market and SONY still owns the best-selling console and SONY still continues to buy studios just like Microsoft.
Microsoft tried to create its own powerhouse and failed for entire console generations. Now they open up the vault and force their way into the market with overpriced acquisitions.
let's wait and see how this will play out and what strategy will prove to be more successful...

casuals don't give a fuck about FF cmon nowThere’s still other third-parties who generate plenty of revenue:
Genshin Impact, FFXIV, Rocket League, Fornite, PUBG, Destiny, GTAO, etc.
There’s many ways you can handle the online space.
There’s other games which don’t release on other platforms that can keep PS fed (ala. FFXIV, FFXVI, SOP) filling the void of COD is mostly what needs to be addressed.
Sony is fine though.
FFXIV has an estimated 36 million subscribers and 3.5 million players a daycasuals don't give a fuck about FF cmon now

The Getaway sold some copies on PS2 but all GTA clones did at the time. It was a critical flop, and London Studios found a lot more success with Eyetoy and Singstar products in that era particularly in the EU. They are also working on the Blood and Truth franchise now which is a sort of spiritual successor for Getaway
And they have God of War, Horizon, TLOU, Ghost of Tsushima, Gran Turismo all out there pushing millions

I actually think the opposite, you don’t spend 70 billion to keep everything as is. They need to push their games so they will make everything exclusive just like with the Bethesda purchase.Calm ye. Microsoft will treat most of these franchises like Minecraft and keep them available to all, especially Call of Duty.
All said, it's hilarious how company considered shitty and the evil for years until thus announcement, now because MS acquired them, it's became a death sentence for Sony.
I hope you get crabs this week.I actually think the opposite, you don’t spend 70 billion to keep everything as is. They need to push their games so they will make everything exclusive just like with the Bethesda purchase.
One game I could see them keeping multiplat would be CoD. I just don’t see Call of duty as an exclusive game, the game just doesn’t have the power to pull it. CoD it’s about playing with your friends, making it exclusive will effectively kill half the player base and would be the final blow the franchise needs.
I would love them to try though lmao, just to see the meltdowns but for me CoD doesn’t work as an exclusive. Single player games yes, of course, but huge multiplayer games with a huge da base across every platform no way.
Though just imagining the thought of them going full crazy and actually make it exclusive just to try to destroy PlayStation would be amazing
They mention cloud gaming before that sentence, so if they counting supporting those communities im pretty sure they mean by making gamepass available to them lol.Too vague.
Could just mean they'll continue to support games that are already available like Warzone.
XIV is a core game, but its an MMO.The mainline game isn’t doing these #s not the same. The core games aren’t popular.
Why so serious? It’s not about the money. Some people just like to watch the world burn.I hope you get crabs this week.
Its regularly among most played games on Steamand i doubt a very minority part play it from the West
kyliethicc please explain to this person what other MEGATON IP Sony is sleeping on. Thanks.
Lol no. It won't happen anything to playstation sales, believe me. Look at the Nintendo Switch. COD will be replaced with other IP as many others. Not a death sentence but a body blow with the loss of COD. Will affect hardware sales and PS Plus sales maybe by 10-15 million considering the average COD game sells 30 million. Half on PS consoles.
Haven't touched a COD game since MW2 on PS3 but the case is different with casual gamers who make the majority of gamers and continue to buy it though the series has become stale long ago.
The rest of ABs library doesn't really affect Sony.
Anything for you bud.ayDonJorginho can you find and post that GIF of Kanye dancing with the MJ crying head photoshopped over it?
Hey, now let’s see what Sony can do by their own. People critics Nintendo all the time because of the games not taking into account that the fucking third parties didn’t help at all. Now let’s see what they think about Sony when activision goes, it’s not so easy is it?If Sony had put the same effort on these titles as their single player titles you would have Megaton IPs.
But no, Sony thought the likes of COD will be their forever rather than focus of making our own IPs and not rely on a third party.
Are you actually comparing Nintendo games to Sony games? Nintendo is completely on another level.Lol no. It won't happen anything to playstation sales, believe me. Look at the Nintendo Switch. COD will be replaced with other IP as many others.

I'll head to my living room and play some Returnal. Then i'll play some hollow knight, then i'll wait for elden ring, then i'll play Horizon FW, then i'll wait for fuck knows what.
Ah yes i know. I'll wait for a goddamn bloodborne PS5 patch and GoW Ragnarök. Maybe i'll also get me some Dying Light 2
shame i don't get to play Diablo 4 right off the bat, but i'll see where all of this leads. And if Microsofts output warrants it, i'll just buy an Xbox.
Lol I’m gonna need to change my name to Xbox fan now.
COD it's reliant to playstation hardware but playstation hardware can survive without it, you will see. It's incredible how hysterical can become some people after such newsNintendo are not reliant on COD or any third party titles. Their first party sell their hardware alone.
Sony on the other hand does get affected if they lose COD.

I don't think a Western dev studio being bought is best answered by making more Japanese games. The audience don't cross over that much and if they could expand the audience with Japanese quirky games there is no reason why they wouldn't have already. This may sound crazy, but imo Sony may need to go back to their roots. The one advantage Sony and Nintendo still has is Japanese games, niche or quirky stuff do not sell well on XBOX. It’s really working for Nintendo and gives them an identity and advantage. Maybe it will work for Sony as well.
