Yes of course but losing COD will put a dent on hardware and ps plus sales.
How much lets wait and see.
Another third party game which can do this is GTA so won't be surprised if Microsoft is looking at acquiring Take 2 as well.
FIFA is another but that will always be multi platform cause it is licensed.
Sony needs to make it's own alternatives and not be dependent on third party titles just like Nintendo cause Microsoft and Co. will continue to spend big and Sony can't compete with them on that front.

Nothing can take it's place. They can't and shouldn't even attempt to find a replacement for COD.
FF is just an example of a franchise they need to get people to their platform. They need more than that obviously but that's the route they need to go down

As long as COD doesn't go exclusive then it shouldn't be *too* bad for Sony to recover from this.
- recover dormant IPs, by god they have enough of them.
- invest in new studios, not just leaving it to the same 4/5 to carry first party productions
- stop Jim from blindly chasing the Gamepass success with this project Spartacus and taking the company further into the mud, we all know it won't compete with Gamepass and I'd rather the company focus in areas they actually specialise in

$70 games are on Xbox too though. Activision, EA, and Take Two charge $70 for Xbox Series versions of games. Would be interesting to see if Activision still will or not. Sony games at least have no microtransactions and don't nickel and dime you. At least not yet. $60 or $70 and still full of microtransactions is not what I prefer. I'd rather just wait for a sale.

The harm is long term.
In a world where all the content is concentrated across just a couple of companies that offer subscription services (and potentially make it so that the subscription service is the only way you can access said content) what do you think will happen to monthly/annual prices?
People need to enjoy their cheap gamepass/netflix/Spotify etc today. We are being given these services at a discount - the businesses responsible are taking losses on the chin to get us subscribed and keep us subscribed, it's about control. This is the golden age from a consumer perspective and it certainly won't stay like this forever.

I mean this is REALLY bad. They will lose millions of PS+ subs, hundreds of millions from COD royalties, and god knows how many more from console sales, but Nintendo has survived without CoD, Elder Scrolls and GTA. Sony just needs to invest in homegrown talent and new IPs.

Sony has kind of always been reactionary. When they first started they copied almost everything Nintendo did, following their controller designs very quickly. Rumble, analog sticks, motion controls after that. Mascot platformers.
About the only thing they did on their own was PS+ giving away games, which was a unique initiative from them. If they decide to copy MS, it's really not that surprising. They also copied MS achievement system, paid online as well.

It's not downplaying the sivnificance, because COD is a bigger deal than all of Bethesda, but he's right most of the IP are trash. Blizzard's IPs are PC centric for the most part so no big loss there for Sony

You'd be surprised how many people buy PS consoles specifically for CoD or Fifa and couldn't care any less for 1P exclusives. The thing is, XB brand has been totally absent on a lot of markets up until XB1, which was a terrible deal to begin with, so for example in Europe, even at the infamous 599$, Playstation is always THE console to get to play the next CoD, Fifa or GTA. But if CoD stops launching on PS5, well then things might change "a bit". I mean, it's only the most selling and profitable IP on Playstation.

Now you will get activision games day one in game pass for the same 15 a month subscription. Now the service is completely worth it. For the price of a 2 Sony games you can get gamepass for a year,, cmon now, you can’t possibly compete with that.

Those aren't what i'd call reactionary like this though. They had their own identity and pursued it while adopting ideas from their competitors because they were good ideas. Everyone does it.
Following the gamepass model is a complete 180 though. Its throwing away their entire businesss model but why? Because everyone pressured and goaded them to do it.

Nah, not for at least another year. I couldn’t see 20 a month before but now I definitely can because there won’t be any other way for you to get these games. If they have one more big acquisition it’s game over for Sony. Their single player only melodramatic exclusives won’t cut it. I don't think it's really that big of a change. They already bought a cloud gaming company and had PS Now going. It's not about being goaded, it's about how they want to compete. They are being beat on price, and quantity in the very near future. It takes elephant size balls to pull a Nintendo and be like, you know what? We're getting killed out there, how about we try the Nintendo DS and the Wii. Sony will never change on that level. They're a fairly traditional multi-media company and all major media is going this same direction across TV, film and games.
