In one of my psychology classes we were examining different brains. As you may or may not know, the more folds your brain has the higher level of thinking. A manatee has an amazingly smooth brain.
I think a manatee might have it right. Maybe the number of folds means how often you make the wrong choice and screw things up.

Men have physically bigger brains because men are bigger. Children have a bigger brain relative to the body. However women and men have a virtually identical average IQ. There are more men with extremely high IQ than women but there are more men with learning disabilities so the size of the brain is clearly not the only factor. Anyway, humans used to have bigger brains than they do now, especially during the Roman period.

As for who has the bigger brain- men are technically larger in size than women and children, so generally a man will have the bigger brain.
Don’t confuse bigger with intelligent. The human race is simultaneously the most intelligent and most retarded species on this planet.
I think the general understanding is that brain size has been shrinking on anatomically modern humans for the past 100,000 years or so, so not anything specifically related to the Romans (....pause for thought of the day).
The notion that we are gaining in technologically complexity and sophistication of ideas and communication leading to "off loading" neural work unto communities or even into technology (writing, etc) leading to smaller brains is an interesting one. I certainly think folks today have much worse memories than previous because tech does it for us. How many phone numbers do you know now compared to when you were a kid? Who can recite lengthy poems/stories verbatim anymore? How much complex information can you retain without writing it down? I expect this to get worse as we increase our technology.

I posted this just after that Delta female pilot flipped the plane on landing. I thought I would add to the chauvinism and say men only please.
they were mocking men when doing this and literally said "not men". I don't know if they were confusing size with intelligence, they don't seem smart enough to ponder that question.

This reminds me of the last time I played Cranium with the fam and a particularly obnoxious niece was so very sure of her answer. "Men have a better sense of direction, True or False?" She proclaimed FALSE and cursed up a storm that it was considered True. She was so pissed at that loss and still denies the accuracy of it to this day

Brain size has been decreasing for 100,000s of years but there were two significant drops. One was about 10,000 years ago with the advent of agriculture and after the Roman period. Could be linked to diet as well. Less protein and more grains.
