Well as usual Windows update was totally painless.Took quite a while though. Longer than the Anniversary update I think.

I downloaded the Update Assistant, started the update (Creator Update) and it failed :/ The Assistant app downloads the update, verifies it, starts installing it, but at about 75-80% is suddenly stops and goes back to the starting (welcome) screen. I tried three or four times and each time the result was the same.

Updating has become so awful with Windows 10. I have never the feeling that it actually updates, and that I have always active enter the Settings app to push the update button.

Do you have a non-standard setup? like dual boot with other OS or several partitions, etc?

Wow, so this creators update ACTUALLY fixed the issue i've been having since honestly like October of last year. Basically i've had to avoid every single update due to a 100% disk usage error.

I have my OS on an SDD and files on a HDD and no matter what I did my computer would be cripplingly slow. I would try a new update, it would break so I had to roll back. I did 3/4 completely fresh installs but none of those worked either. So to my joy this has solved those issues.

I do wonder though, how do you remove some of the new things like Such as View 3D, Mixed Reality Portal etc? I removed a bunch of crap before with powershell but not sure on what to type.

Anyway to keep Hotspot on all the time? i hate that I have to turn it on everytime i want to use use it (share internet from cable connection). Not to say that if I disconnect my phone (for example if I leave the room for a few minutes) it also turns off the fucking hotspot sharing.

I have a second hard drive (the system is on SSD and there's a second HDD with data) so that might be it. But if that's the source of the problem it would be really fucked up if the system update has a problem with such a standard setup. Oh well, I'll unmount the second drive and see if that helps.

Considering doing a full clean install with the creators update... but after installing the update, everything seems fine and smooth so I can't be bothered right now... I really feel like Win10 has mostly straightened things out to where I don't feel the desire to do a clean install every year or so when a new major SP or update releases. Everything is finally refined to where it's less of an issue.

CU fixed the windows update slowness too, it now checks much, much faster. One less problem then.

Overall... seems like the best update to-date, haven't ran into any issues. I really like using Windows 10... hope they can keep steadily improving it without taking any steps back.

It sucks, all I can say is that I had several issues having dual boot and using a boot manager like grub, on the other hand after switching to a pure UEFI boot with no boot managers things are working smoothly in my desktop and portable. I will be updating this weekend to creators to see if things remain the same.

Hm, unmounting second HDD didn't help - the installation still stopped at 76% and went back to the welcome screen without any error message :/ Oh well, I'll wait those few days for the official release then.

I really, really wouldn't recommend doing this. It can lead to problems if other apps depend on it. As an example, some people removed everything with the wildcard of *Xbox*, which fucked up things like GameBar (needed to use Game Mode), or if they tried to play Xbox Live games, it just is plain broken since the Xbox UI isn't there to pick the account you use and all that jazz. There's a reason they don't let you Uninstall certain things easily, since they are classified as system components. There may be unintended consequences with your machine that aren't obvious that you may have caused. You're essentially deleting apps from within C:\Windows\ which is risky.

Just to be more concrete, the Mixed Reality Portal is actually tiny. It's essentially a glorified launcher and nothing more so if you do buy a VR headset, you launch that (or Windows probably automatically launches it) and THEN it does a download of the Mixed Reality software which is 2GB. So it tries to be good about disk space by only having the small things on the disk, and having the big disk items be optional. I just looked at everything regarding Mixed Reality. It's around 30MB of disk space for everything. You can verify by doing Get-AppxPackage *holo* and getting the properties on every folder listed for the applications.

With that said, it's your PC and you can do what you want, so open Powershell and run "Get-AppxPackage". Then, grab the full name of the package you want to uninstall and do "Remove-AppxPackage <packagename>" (with <packagename> being replaced with the package full name). You can do things with wild cards and all that, but it can be a bit dangerous! Always make sure you know what you're deleting so you don't end up in a weird state.

my friend is trying to reinstall windows 10 but every time he boots from the windows 10 USB, it goes to the recovery and start up settings. from here, it won't boot in safe mode or will the repair work. there are no options to reinstall windows 10 or format the hard drive in this menu.

how do i get to the installation usb without going straight to the recovery options? google-fu has not been productive

After the update, every time I boot up my PC the screen stays black. I have to press the power button to turn it off then turn it back on again then it works.

I was about to update Windows 10 and after an automatic restart it got stuck like this
img_03081jpn7.jpg

The Windows 10 logo is kinda faded and there's a white dot. Did anyone experience a similar issue?

edit: Managed to get back to a previous version through the advanced startup menu

edit2: tried it once more, same error ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Decided to start fresh with the Creators Update. Everything running smooth.
How was it? I'm considering it this time since I've never reinstalled since I built my computer in 2011. I'm too concerned with all my odd customizations to go through it all. I have like 4 internal drives and it's not as snappy as I'd like.

It went quick. I don't keep a lot of stuff on my PC as it's just gaming focused so I was done in an hour and a half just installing the OS, drivers, and setting things up.

Cross posting from this thread ( http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?p=233747883#post233747883 ) as the Creators Update didn't fix anything:

"Suddenly occurred during use. Windows initiated a Defender update, but nothing more, and then my wireless keyboard/mouse stopped working and the Bluetooth system tray icon disappeared.

Now Windows is showing 'Unknown USB Device (device descriptor request failed)' under the devices.

Using a Gigabyte GC-WB867D-I Network Card, PCIe with a mobo USB connector cable.

Thoughts? All symptoms point to a driver issue, but Windows claims the device is 'up to date'. Downloaded the driver from Gigabyte's support page + installed too, but no change."

Anyone have experiences with this?

Uh, creators update is janky as fuck. All of my icons vanished after I had to restart my PC because of a crash, restarted again and they were still gone. Had to rollback to fix it.

The creator's update axed my internet connection on my laptop. It gets intermitent and using fast.com or speedtest it gives me a third of the speed I used to have. Tried reset and reinstal drivers... only a downgrade to the Anniversary toke care of it.

Im pretty bummed for not beeing able to use this new update -.-'

Same here. I even did a complete fresh install from scratch. It's so bizarre. The speed seems completely locked to 5Mbps and it used to be 25Mbps for the 2 years prior to the update without fail.
I am confused how the OS update could cause this but it did because I've eliminated all other variables that it could be.

Edit: after a quick browse in the TP Link forums, most people with the same Archer T4U USB wifi stick I have are having this same issue after the Creators Update. Hopefully it gets fixed soon

mactype is broken right now on CU. There is a patch on their site that stops the crashing and it works but I think fonts look worse now with some awful artifacts around the letters. Certainly ClearType looks way better and perfectly sharp in comparison. Strange.

I just fixed my problem by disabling QoS in the wifi adapter driver settings (which was never a problem before the Creators Update). May be worth a try for you.

Had a really old laptop here that can't take the update at .0 revision. Never tried it with the current CU.

Couldn't reboot nor find any connections through ethernet + wifi. Ethernet driver was installed.

Decided to install XUbuntu over it. Computer is over a decade old.

Windows Kernel has changed a lot.

I'm only having one issue that I know about, the "most used" section of the start menu appears to be broken for me, just displaying a static list of apps in it (and they are all already pinned ones). Anyone else have an issue with that?

Not sure if relevant although seeing this problem.

I noticed dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth always errors out. Even tried with a local source /driveletter:\sources\install.esd:1 /limitaccess flag.

sfc /scannow completes successfully + repairs from Windows Update if needed.

Hm.

i think that's happening for me too. nothing seems to change anymore.

CU has made Edge much faster on my rig. I was so close to going back to Chrome because of the Edge lag but now it seems snappier than Chrome.

anyone help? This creators update which has been pushed on me has broken the sound on my computer. I can hear nothing now and yes I have checked my headphones are plugged in, tried different usbs and line ins.

I'm updating it again. Going to try that. ;)

I've been saying this for weeks. It's the only browser I use since CU.

It's fast and feels modern. Can't go back to chrome now.

still can't highlight a text and google it... I don't want to ask cortana. Maybe if cortana could google it instead.

if you put any text separated by . in the address bar and hit enter, it still thinks it's a url instead of showing a search page... I want to search test.exe not go to test.exe.

no way to google image search right from the image... I guess this is not their fault but it's so easy to make this work that I have no idea why there is no extension to do this, all it takes is to add the image source at the end of a google search url and it's done. I guess extension can't add anything to the right click menu? no idea what extensions can do because there are like 10 of them...

It's missing some very simple basic things still after this many updates. It's not a long way off from being good, these are some low hanging fruits. I personally don't care about having 100k extension or not, I don't use anything in particular any more anyway.

Similar/Same issue for me. Audio drivers fail with.

Code:
This device cannot start. (Code 10)

{Operation Failed}
The requested operation was unsuccessful.

Yeah, I tried several other drivers, including those. Unfortunately none of them would work. Ended up rerolling to AU as I can't be bothered to play around for hours.

Side Note: "Have a disk" still defaults to A as if someone still used floppies with drivers :p

I had to revert back to my previous version after upgrading to CU.

I was unable to save anything in Chrome (right click-save as would crash the browser). I was also getting random crashes in other programs if I would go File-Open.

I'm having a really weird issue ever since I installed the CU.

I'll be on my PC and all will be fine, and then all of a sudden my internet just completely drops. Hard wired ethernet connection. Wi-Fi on my phone is still fine, and when I go to connection settings no errors are detected and it still appears to be sending and receiving data, but all my programs will just stop loading. Discord, Skype, Steam etc all will disconnect, no web browser will load any pages, nothing.

Restarting my PC fixes it every single time, but holy crap this is a stupid bug. I was getting really close to deleting my old install but no way in hell I do it now. Has anyone else encountered this kind of an issue or know what could be causing it? I can't find anyone who seems to be having this issue. Lots of people have constant ethernet problems from the start but nobody seems to have it like me where it'll be perfectly fine and then suddenly just stop.

My LAN port is an Intel 82579V connector. I have a spare Qualcomm one but I've always used the Intel one since I remember reading somewhere years ago it worked better with my motherboard's chipset. :/ No updates appear to be available for either controller, according to Windows.

Ok gross. MS got rid of "Open Command Prompt Here" from the (shift) right-click menu in folders and replaced it with "Open PowerShell Here".

Registry edit required to bring it back.

This is the kind of shit that makes people not want to install Windows Updates.

Or you could just use the toggle for this under Taskbar Settings...

I've been having the same issue. Disconnecting from Wi-Fi and reconnecting solves it for me, but as far as I can tell, the network hasn't lost the internet connection or anything. It's pretty frustrating...
