Wow, I haven't smoked in two days.

This is nuts. I can barely take this. The cravings are unbelievable.

Interestingly enough, primary effect so far? Intense drowsiness.

drinking alcohol kinda helped with cravings for me

i always found the difficulty of quitting to be industry hyperbole though

get over that 3 day hump

I've got intense drowsiness here, but it's 1 AM and I'm about to sleep.

You should probably get some nicotine gum to blunt the withdrawal. It's the smoke smell, social act that allows the brain to form the addiction to nicotine. May have a better chance to take the physical addiction first and then the psychological/rebound separately.

Stay busy bro, do something else to quell your cravings rather than go to smoke a cigarette. Chew on some gum, make a mantra that you repeat to yourself, masturbate, whatever it takes.

I have great respect for anyone who can quit an addictive substance. Only slightly less than the respect I have for people who have the foresight to avoid crap like that in the first place. Stick with it.

wow, good thing I have NEVER smoked a cigarette in my life. I am 21 and the only thing I've smoked is weed and a black and mild here and there. Weed used to be frequently but I stopped that trend my freshman year in college. Now it's just randomly. Last was 6 months ago. I do smoke a black and mild every other week but I don't crave it. It's just something I do when I'm drunk. I am, however, an "alcoholic".

good luck man. get over that addiction!!

Get over it and never go back.
I have a few friends that quick for like almost a year then life got a little hard and then they went right back to it. That's just crap.

I think I'd prefer to know I did it through sheer force of will.
I'm in the same place as you. I'm 6 days in though. I'm not really getting the intense physical cravings anymore but the mental shit is killing me. Non-smoker GAF can say whatever they want but they have no idea what quitting these fucking things is actually like.

quitting cigarettes cold turkey is easy. just stick with it.

Total bullshit. It isn't easy, that's why so many people can't do it.

I made it my new year's resolution this forthcoming year to quit. I try to take breaks but usually last til 11am-12pm that day :(

i guess it depends on how long you smoked for and how many a day.

quitting may not be easy for some people but neither is say, losing weight. doesn't mean you shouldn't try if it's what you want.

is that so many people "can't" quit smoking or that they truly don't have the will to?

:lol :lol :lol

Really?

I quit cold turkey 5 months ago and it was the worst week of my life, easily. Physical pain, mentally drained all the time and incredible mood swings.

Easy? Fuck no. Don't lie to anyone like this.

I view this as the same thing. If you don't have the will to then you can't quit.

I was smoking maybe half a pack in August. At some point during September, I honestly forgot to buy cigarettes and then at some point thereafter realized that I no longer smoked. I became so busy with school and other priorities that it simply didn't factor into my schedule. Distractions are incredibly helpful; second only to ruling out the behavioral patterns that you associate with smoking (people generally associate smoking with an activity or environment). Also, it's important to replace it with something.

Not thinking about quitting really, really helped. Preoccupy yourself.

I've quit cold turkey before. I was almost a pack a day at the time.

Seriously, after 3 days you're good physically. The first 3 days are the hardest days ever, but if you make it through, you're good. Eating a lot of food keeps the cravings down.

After about 1 week you'll start to notice your sense of smell increase.

After about 2 weeks you're straight mentally.

Congrats.

Get over the 4-5 day hump, it's the hardest. Keep going!
yea pretty much, you can do it man! I quit almost a year ago new years will be my one year. Hardest part for me is still fighting the occasional craving and it still sucks. I've almost broken a few times. Been smoking for about 10 years.

When you are quitting and feel like a smoke go and brush your teeth or suck on a really strong mint. You'll trick your body into getting a hit off the mint flavour.

I've started smoking over the past couple of months and I've yet to get addicted. From time to time I get a craving but it's nothing I can't ignore. Granted, I'm not smoking very often (a couple packs a week or so) but from what the health nazis always said when I was growing up, even a small amount of smoking is addictive.

I smoked like that for two years before I was truly addicted.
