Sony E3 2014 Conference Thread

but some of us don't care about console exclusivity because we own a gaming pc.
What if Sony facilitated the deal with Disney which means the game gets a remake in the first place? That certainly was implied from what Boyes said.

Does that not matter in this scenario? Should Sony go for full exclusivity instead of the limited stuff they've been doing for years just so some people feel less insecure about what is shown?

I thought it dragged a bit in the middle but I was pretty happy with it overall. LBP3 was a nice surprise. It was great to see that Uncharted teaser even if it's still quite early days. Bloodborn looks intriguing, I'm pretty sure it's going to be a system seller. Seeing how good Arkham Knight looks is also encouraging. Shame it got delayed but Rocksteady know best.

That was a sad final E3 for Vita. Bon voyage.

Microsoft's conference was more video game-ey. Sony was consistent again this year with a cinematic, borderline melodramatic style lineup.

After this E3, the two consoles seem to have more of an identity of their own, and that is a great thing. I'm taking that away from the two conferences more than anything.

Overall, it was a good presentation, except for Layden, who just sucked all the momentum that was built up. Most of the games didn't really excite me that much.

I'm really starting to get really sick of seeing zombie games and shooters all the time. I was hoping to hear about a new jrpg or something like that. Guess we have to wait TGS though.

I did like Uncharted 4 and TLOU, though. As well as Arkham Knight and MKX. They all looked great and I'll be getting all of them.

I recall him saying something along the lines of 2015 and into the future.

Of course that was yesterday and I could be confusing his comments.

He did say 2015 and into the future. The MS conference was simple. The first half were games you were going to able to play this year or early next year, the second half were games for later 2015 and beyond.

Like others have said, it dragged a bit in the middle but overall great conference. They had more interesting games than MS and I appreciated the actual live demo of LBP3 instead of actors on stage pretending to play.

Thats entirely subjective though. Sonys conference was bloated. Many of the so called highs were simply me thinking "gee this game sure will look nice on my pc" or merely thinking well i was going to pick up that game anyways for the ps4 even though its coming to x1 as well. Uc4 wasn't a high for me because we knew it was coming. Graphics also don't sell me anymore. It was merely a teaser trailer for some pretty visuals. So to me that was boring. At the end of sonys conference I realized. Theres nothing I really want to pick up for my ps4 this year that was announced where after the ms one I was thinking well there are some games coming out I'll get when i get my x1 later this year.

Sorry, this is a bullshit post especially when u mention you have a PC but dont care for graphics. MS had a few games but are still far from release, its more about what I can play in the very near future for these events due to the fact that you're gonna get the same bullshit from MS conference next yr showing more of what u know about now.

So your post doesnt make sense in the slightest.

MS should of did this from the get go all about games theme, I just dont think it will make a difference now. Wtf at Nintendo, please give me a reason to pull the trigger.

Yeah, no one could have thought that about the MS conference.

I think if sony was in the position to nab exclusivity they would of. They wouldn't even really take the heat for it either. It would pretty much be directed at disney. insecure because I have the option to pick up most of what sony showed on my pc? hows that insecurity? I merely made a personal observation.

make sure the pudding isn't too soggy but that just ruins everything
I enjoyed the sony conference aside from a couple moments when they allowed some segments to drag on a a bit.

However, these new conference formats are really trimming the fat compared to the old days. I mean, these are clearly set up for people watching streams and whatnot, when they used to be targeting (not entirely, but for the most part) the press and industry people.

Now that I watched Microsoft conference, you have to give it to them that it has far better pacing and was cohesive in general. The way they presented all the games in the conference without any noticeable delay of switching speakers was smooth.

That said, I still think both Sony and Microsoft are on par with other with regards to games shown on their conference, they were both slightly underwhelming.

So because I have a gaming pc that makes me a graphics whore? Maybe I prefer a nice framerate? Maybe you shouldn't assume something about someone because they're also a pc gamer. Gameplay> eye candy and there was no gameplay to be found in the uc4 trailer. Thats why Im not hyped up about it. I'll reserve judgement after I see some actual gameplay because franky I found UC3 to be a step back.

So, interested in Guilty Gear Xrd and some of the Japanese games coming over this year?

Considering the amount of exclusives, timed or infinite, shown, both platforms were pretty much tied, so I don't get where the winner-loser debate comes from.

PS4
Uncharted 4
Bloodborne
The Order: 1886
LBP3
Let It Die
No Man's Sky
Entwined
Abzu
TLOU
Grim Fandango
Ratchet & Clank
Infamous DLC

XB1
Fable Legends
Scalebound
Sunset Overdrive
Forza Horizon 2
Project Spark
Crackdown 3
Phantom Dust
Ori & and the Blind Forest
Inside
Below
Halo Collection

Because MS had to show what is probably a big chunk of their 2016 lineup, and their 2015 lineup is basically Halo 5.

That's the problem I have with MS' conference and general strategy with the Xbox One. They got the tone right at this show, they have some interesting titles on the platform, but there just isn't enough there to justify the system (in my opinion). They rely on 3rd parties and purchased exclusives because they've ignored their first party stable for the majority of last generation and the beginning of this one.

It really shows that they believed Kinect + the Xbox brand + third party multiplats where all it was going to take for them to win this generation. That is a Sony forcing blu-ray to the tune of a $600 MSRP level hubris fuck up right there. Their band-aid is to bring back two middling Xbox only franchises (Phantom Dust and Crackdown) and to pay Platinum for an exclusive, just like how their launch answer was to pay Crytek, Capcom, and Double Helix for exclusives, and how Holiday 2015 is outsourced Forza Horizon 2 to Playground Games and Insomniac's Sunset Overdrive. Microsoft hasn't made shit for the Xbox One yet outside of Froza 5.

Other than Turn 10, Lionhead, and 343 what do they have for proven studios? Pretty much nothing, and that's being kind to Lionhead who has been in steady decline and has lost a ton of key talent the last few years, not to mention the massive disparity between what 343 has done with Halo versus what Bungie was doing with Halo.

They lack a single truly elite studio and have zero depth to make up for it. At least in the PS2 and early PS3 era before Naughty Dog blew up Sony had a broad first party turning out a wide variety of offerings. MS isn't even doing that.

They've shown some worthwhile games. But when their entire business model is apparently built around keeping the ability to walk away from this industry overnight and they offer the weakest exclusive lineup year to year as a result it is very hard to get invested in their ecosystem.

Actually I am. I wish they got more coverage but i'll have to look for information about that stuff else where online. To be fair thats why I forget about certain games like that one.

Yeah, this is the thing I noticed as well. MS and Sony announced the same amount of games. The difference in Sony gave 2015 games (except maybe Uncharted which is 2016) compared to MS which was mixed with 2015 and 2016. I am worried that it will be 2016 before the real gems for the One come out.

The only game I'm interested in on the X1 is Sunset Overdrive, whereas I want a shitload of the PS4 ones. But that's just my personal taste I guess.

Playdead's Inside looked very interesting on the XB1 side. Hopefully it's not tied to it forever. I don't really care about Platinum's games and multiplayers, excluding ME3, but the Halo collection is a good value if it's sold at one game's price.

On the Sony's side I'm most interested in The Order: 1886, Uncharted 4, Infamous DLC, No Man's Sky, and Abzu. Bloodborne as well, if it's not as punishing as Demon's Souls was, ie. throwing the player back to face the same enemy waves again after a failure.

Mass Effect 4, Arkham Knight, Tomb Raider sequel, and Dead Island 2 are the multiplatforms I'm looking forward to the most.

I was mostly pleasantly surprised with the conference. The first hour or so was pretty much pitch perfect, a lovely string of surprises and new game announcements, some of which were pretty unpredictable.

The pace slackened in the opening of the second hour, with all the 'housekeeping' and business announcements. Picked up a bit again as things closed, and Uncharted looked unbelievable... perhaps literally.

It was good. I think it evidenced that on the developer relations front Sony is doubling down, they're not resting on any laurels. Which is a good thing given that WWS seems to be storing up mostly for next year - though LBP3 was a nice surprise.

I'm pretty sure 2015 flashed up at the end of the Uncharted teaser, no?

Has ND ever showed off their games with trailers that weren't indicative of how there games will look and play?

They're not called Naughty Gods for nothing, and you're the first to ever tout just stable framerate or gfx and when all I hear is about both being far superior than console gaming.

Almost everything we seen from sony will look and most likely play like that.

Sorry didnt mean to derail, post just annoyed me is all, carry on.

Uncharted had a 2015 date on it, im sure they'll hit that.

The Uncharted trailer ended with a massive 2015.

But they have a history of being in the position with the Pub Fund for example and they still don't do it.

So you have to do more than just assert that they only didn't do it because they aren't in a position to do it.

I just get annoyed by all the people that want full exclusivity even if Sony and MS are offering all the benefits to developers without any of the negatives. (Positives: Marketing, Funds; Negatives: Being more restrictive about platforms.)

Well, yeah they have. They have released trailers from cutscenes of past games, which in turn weren't representative of actual gameplay footage. UC4 won't look as good as this whilst you're playing, the wording at the start of the trailer indicates as such.

And some of us don't care about exclusivity period. I really don't understand why I should be happy that I can play a game that someone with a different console is unable to play. Now I will end up with at least two console bc of exclusives but likely all three, waste of money and space.

Uncharted 4 and Bloodbourne both specifically stated 2015 in their trailers, FYI, both have likely been in development for 2+ years already.

The big question I have for Sony is what Gamescom and TGS are going to look like. If this is step one to segmenting out their regions into headliners for the local trade shows there is real promise here. Gamescom headlined by Mm, Sony London's secret project, and Guerrilla Games teasing their RPG would be pretty huge. TGS where Mark Cerny is a cornerstone presenter and they unveil the next Gran Turismo, Bloodbourne gameplay, Lily Bergamo gameplay, and some big SCEJA titles (internal or partnered titles) would be pretty epic.

If instead they just stuff Gamescom with more indies like last year and TGS is a boring rehash of all the other games with nothing uniquely targeted at Japan I'll be pretty disappointed. Right now their exclusive lineup over the next year and a half (through 2015) is (in my opinion) a little better than MS'. If any of their multitude of worldwide studios show up at the two upcoming trades shows in their respective regions it could kick their lineup into overdrive. They need that.

Well its not just that i also prefer a mouse and keyboard when im playing certain genres like shooters and strategy games. Like I said though I thought uc3 was a step back so I hope uc4 is a better game in the gameplay/story aspect,

Does anyone know yet when the youtube app is coming? And did i hear it right? Is it upload to youtube and also an app like the one on PS3 or just a place to upload videos you have made?

Exclusivity doesnt matter to me. Did you not see me say I have all consoles so i dont really care unless its content where im practically forced to buy a version so i can get my hulk/other avengers in disney infinity. As an observer though I just Sony conference in terms of exclusive games for their system to be weaker for the 2014 year then ms when it concerns me because i have that option to play most of the multiplats on my pc. Thats my personal opinion. However if you only own a ps4 or x1 or are deciding which one to get then yea you're going to have a different opinion then mine regarding their press conferences. Then again if sony had like 30 exclusive my little pony games I wouldn't have mattered to me.

I think they said fall, and I'm sure it's an app as well, makes no sense for it not to be.

Sony didnt have much hype going into the presentation compared to MS too. GAF seemed to be in doom and gloom mode for Sony because they were too quiet and had 'no games' going into E3. At the end of the day, they were both underwhelming but the difference was one was overhyped, they other was shrouded in mystery and tears.

Outside of Gears, isn't that literally all MS has announced?

Sony has that list, along with Drive Club, Hohokum, Helldivers, Rime, Shadow of the Beast, Everybody Gone to the Rapture, Planetside 2, H1Z1, and a shitload more indies than MS.

After sleeping on it I can't help but be a little disappointed with the conference. It was definitely one of Sony's strongest in recent memory in terms of software quantity IMO but just think of what could've been if some of the juicy rumors turned out to be true. There were no real highlights for me, no real surprises. It was about as good as the MS one, although I'd argue that that one was better paced. That said, based on what they didn't show I expect they're going to own E3 2015.

Personal highlights for me:
WHITE PS4
The Order - looked better than the initial reveal, it gave me RE4 vibes.
Bloodborne - THE reason I am buying a PS4 besides Deep Down
Grim Fandango
Let It Die
ABZÛ
No Man's Sky
PSTV
Uncharted 4!!!

Maybe ill get Wii U for my little brother (hes almost 10), depends on what Nintendo going to show.

Those who keep saying MS announced games for 2016...which games are those? I remember them specifically saying "the following games are for our 2015 profile"
Anyone care to list which games are 2016? Or are we just making assumptions because they were CG?

How many games did MS show last year are coming out next year? I think its safe to say at least a few of those CGI ones will see another E3 and will be in consumer hands in 2016.

Because the pc/ps4 reveals had gameplay and not just cgi/teaser trailers? My goodness I didn't say Gee this game will look great on ultra settings/1440p on my pc did i? Its merely a figure of speech. Also in refrence to the games I was already going to pick up I meant games such as mgsv which isn't coming out this year. If they had ffxv and kh3 I'd of been talking about those too.
