The flight plan I just filed with the agency list me, my men, Dr. Pavel here. But only one of you!
This doesn't make sense. A game I was looking forward to is actually living up to the hype? Is such a thing even possible? Giorgio plz.

Not a good analogy since metacritic is an aggregate.

Unlike a grade on a college exam, you're never going to get 30 plus different reviewers from around the globe to all agree the game is a 10/10.

I don't think that's ever actually happened, a 100% is an impossible bar.

Anything above a 90 should be considered "excellent", and there's no real difference between 2 points here or there. Hell, most reviewers aren't even using the same scale. One might give it a 4.5 out of 5, another a 9 out of 10.

True not the best analogy. Although I was looking at it more from a overall class perspective where everything is weighted differently (like Metacritic) as part of the overall whole possible 100. You know how tests are like 30% and quizzes 20% attendance 20% and the final 30%. You miss one day (or get one 9/10) and the 100 is gone but the 100 was possible just not probable, but yeah not the best. Also a 4.5 is the same as a 9/10 when you throw them on a 100 point scale.

Reviews seem nice, congrats to PS4Gaffers, you´ll surely be enjoying a great game. I´m envious but I don´t have enough free time to justify buying a PS4 just for this while my backlog keeps getting bigger and bigger. You lucky bastards! :)

This little bullet point from Klepek's Kotaku "impressions" has me worried:

I've been on complete media blackout from the game (except for this one impression).... and searched through the whole thread for an answer (didn't find one): Is there any loot in the game? Are we not going to be able to play FashionBorne just like FashionSouls? Am I not going to freak out when I can't get a Black Knight Halbred to drop off the first one?!?!

Here's what Miyazaki said about the amount of weapons

Hidetaka Miyazaki: In terms of how many physical weapons there are, the amount is less than in a Souls game, but that’s to some extent a decision made due to the game design.

The weapons transform – so one weapon will have various uses and strategies that you can implement. You can also customise your weapon with Blood Gems. There are different types and you can slot in up to three at a time. One gem might have you use less stamina per swing, for example.

You can have many different combinations – so actually the amount of weapons in Souls is absorbed in Bloodborne by this customisation element and how someone can tailor a weapon to how they want to use it. In a way, the variety is still there, but it’s absorbed down on a customisation level, rather than in the quantity of actual weapons, much more than in Souls.

I wish I could get a better grasp about the length

Sorry to keep dwelling on this, but the people coming at 25-30 hours... did you guys rush straight through? Were there optional areas or something that you neglected? Is the Chalice dungeon somewhere a lot of resources went into, contributing to shortened length?

Also, I dont know if I was imagining it, but can you CREATE your own chalices, or are they just always randomly generated and sharable with friends?

I signed up for gamefly yesterday because they let me come back for $1. I put this on my list but am sort of hoping I dont get it. I still have a pre order through best buy, I think they were giving $10 back when I did it, so would essentially be getting the game for $38. It will he my first souls game. Its coming out at the right time of the year for me to try it. I probably would have tried dark souls if it had come out in March.

Huh, interesting.

So, completely unrelated, but I need about $460 dollars to pay for my child's medical bills or he will definitely be dead soon. I take paypal, thank you and god bless!

Witcher 3 also.

Think it can hang with the above three? Never played Witcher, looks to be a solid RPG. I got tired with Dragon's Age and felt like I should have waited for Witcher instead as it looks more interesting, especially when it comes to combat. Wont be able to afford Witcher at launch, but I'll definitely jump on eventually.

What about Tearaway Unfolded? That looks like a good underdog

Druckmann/Straley have not earned their 'GOAT' stripes yet. Yes, TLOU is wonderful but I think we should see how UC4 turns out before we carve their names on stone.

What? They sure as hell have earned their accolades. They were pretty much fully involved in Uncharted 2 as well and they went on to win countless GOTY awards and forever shape the way action games are designed...

Then they outdone themselves with TLOU which was not only a great risk for Naughty Dog but one of the most mature games out there (story wise). And guess what, the game went on to be the one with the most GOTY awards in the history.

They have earned their stripes and then some.

All I know is the hype is through the roof. The combat though in Witcher games were never that great so not really sure how it'll do in that department.

I guess in previous Witcher games.. they were floaty..?

People complaining about graphics... I might be blind or maybe I played the wrong games last year. Bloodborne looks fantastic!

In fairness, this game looks nice but doesn't seem like it should be that incredibly demanding. I'm very (very) slightly disappointed that they couldn't manage a better framerate.

Not a deal-breaker by any means of course.

show me a game that has as much geometry going on as what im seeing atm in Yharnam. Good luck.

there is a metric ton of stuff on screen at all times. including sections with 7-8 enemies at once or more.

game is absolutely beautiful. Best art direction ive seen in a long ass time. I've stood and stared at the intricate carvings within the steel of a lamppost far too long sometimes lol. or all the statues around the first area, or the animations of the enemies. etc. brilliance

Being in the UK, I just couldn't wait until friday after seeing the great reviews so I just bought $60 of PSN credit from Amazon and I'm currently downloading the game.

Can I play after its installed the initial 5gb or do I need to wait until the full game is installed?

Where is that downgrade thread from yesterday? Does the game look very different from initial gameplay trailers?

There was a (now locked) thread comparing an E3 trailer to the retail version for the
Blood-Starved Beast
boss fight. Some saw it as a "downgradeton" but it struck me as a case where they'd tweaked the overall visual composition of the area somewhat, so it wasn't exactly an apples to apples comparison.

Well, I'm only on the first area but I did notice one or two drops before entering battles. Either way, I'm a sucker for detecting these things and I often take them as normal.

Weapons don't drop at random, so you don't end up with a speed run path that fails half the time, and you don't end up with a thousand broken short swords.

The loot you do get are consumables and upgrade materials.

I have four full outfits already and I'm only three bosses in. The FashionBorne will be strong.

Good to know FashionBorne will exist!

Interesting! Now I'm not as worried on either point. Damn it, I'm totally buying a PS4 and this game today, aren't I?

double jump

you haven't lived until a random little kid ask you "how do you make love".

I want more answers about this stuff as well.
I haven't even received the game yet and I'm already wondering about when dlc will drop because of playtime concerns. maybe the dungeons will save us.

It usually takes me 60-80hrs to beat a souls game first go. So yeah I'm a bit worried.

Agreed. Half of these big games are big open field with not much going on. Tons of shit is going on in this game at all times.

There is one 7 in the OP from a guy who hates these kind of games. Same website (gamereactor.se) has a second opinion giving the game 9/10.

Oh i know about gaf sources, i'm talking about metascore since my comment was reflective of his quote.
