that's why your dad says that to be honest. He never spent any time in the "real shit" as any city cop would say. The ones who defend this type of shit are the ones who see the anecdotal evidence of the worst of the worst and extrapolate it to mean everyone of that race.

Maybe. But I don't think that justifies a cop just shooting a "potential maybe suspect" instantly. Especially all the times where the victims were deemed innocent.

If you were telling violence against cops is a constant and cops are dying everywhere everyday from this, maybe (even then, no) but cops are not supposed to resort to violence immediately. That's the issue here.

How about the fucking texas state legislature which made open carry legal?

This shit just wasted police time and resources and made the crime scene more confusing for them to sift through.

Open carry is insane. Can't have open carry and then freak-out that a guy is openly carrying... but should get rid of open carry to make that shit less confusing.

Good stuff to get that message out there immediately. Hope stations stop sharing his photo.

It felt like there was going to be progress on police reform earlier today. Then this shit happened. Now the ensuing blue outrage will cancel out what ever drive for reform would have take place.

This country needs a soft reset. We don't want a hard rest for fuck sakes...

Honestly if these guys are white right wing domestic terrorists, progress can be made. Maybe even progress on gun control.

If these guys are black, or Muslim, get ready for the blue wall.

I'm not even going to comment or speculate on this all. All I know is this country is heading in such a scary direction.

Repeating, again:

  • Don't post reports without sources
  • Don't make claims about "people saying" or other vague things, wait for confirmation
  • ABSOLUTELY don't post phots of "suspects" or "possibly involved" people or anything else unless they come from official sources

We are aware that the DPD twitter fucked up and called the guy a suspect, please be aware that our goal is to avoid anyone doing anything irresponsible here.

That is the danger of jumping on that pic... I do think it was foolish to go down there with that weapon on your shoulder but who the hell would have thought this event would have taken place.

So I hope his name is cleared if in fact he is not the suspect.. sadly how much damage is already done with his face out on the net now.

i've been begging for over 5 years.
Investigating =/= publically statiting he's a POI.

I'm not really informed on the implications of being falsely accused of something like this. It was only for a few minutes so I'm hoping the damage to his reputation isn't too bad. Just curious, but what could happen to him because of this?

He's a black guy with a gun. It's not that difficult to suss out what the worst possible outcome could be given the past few days.

edit - whew... so glad he was able to turn himself in. thank god.

Interview with Jamaal on Fox News was incredibly well spoken about what he witnessed and why he came out to peacefully porotest to work with and not against the police. My heart goes out to all of the police who have died and those who are still in critical condition.

I'm also glad Sheperd is the one covering this on Fox News rather than any of the other on this statiom.

It's super scary that the shooters are still out there. I know it sounds like theyhaveone cornered but who knows. If they were buildings what's to stop them from just packing up and sneaking out into the crowd.

highways, waterways, lots of points of egress if they somehow were able to get past police cordon. If they planned this thing, planning escape points would also be a good bet.

Thank God, Shep always is great when covering stuff like this. The only one who won't let speculative bullshit and biased rhetoric fly throughout the whole thing.

Isn't this basically the 2nd Amendment in action? Government is acting in an oppressive way so you use your guns to fight back.

The guy was a POI because he was carrying an ASSUALT RIFLE. Citizens did the RIGHT thing by sending in pics of him to police. The second the POLICE released the pic the news had to report it. There is no one to blame but the guy with the rifle.

Damn another cop dead. RIP
I am not familiar with texas law. Open carry of assault rifle is illegal?

Bet if he was white he would've been assumed as being a patriot, nothing more.

Good news, the guy from the pic managed to turn himself in, and another guy who got in a shootout with the police is in custody now.

I feel like I'm in a movie with these Facebook live vids. Holy shit man what the fuck is happening to our country.

Stuff has happened before. I was alive during the LA Riots in the early 90s. The 60s were much worse.

Not to downplay the issues now, but it's not new.

The guy turned himself in, the POI. He's ok.

Hope the news plastering him all over for an extended period of time doesn't mess with his life for the coming months. That's got to cause a lot of unrest, even if he is safe now.

Hoping for the best.

Anyone seen walking around with a long rifle before the shooting should of been reported.

I realize open carry is legal, however, carrying a long rifle around isn't common at all.

Unfortunately we've been there a while. I feel this is just a culmination of it all. I mean clearly these two people took advantage of a situation.

But I feel something like this was bound to happen regardless.
