Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 ≼|℧T|≽ Xenos Saga 2

Just finished it, good game nice to see the devs capture the spirit of the original and its good to see them have success with it.

It felt very strange to have the hive tyrant killed off by a separate team in the game kind of felt like Titus should have been the one to do it.

Overall it kind of feel like the right game at the right time.

All operations cleared on all difficulty levels, half solo and half with randoms who joined my session (where are my private games Sabre!?) Last night I did 4 and 5 solo which was intense. 4 is one of the longer missions (maybe longest?) that culminates in the Drake boss. Obviously the bots won't activate sigils plus my primary weapon was multi-melta shotgun so lots of running around and taking shots with my pistol lol. Operation 5 threw a Helbrute at me during the charging section at the end, fun times!

My heavy is now max level and looks like the ultimate fucking badass:

I'm going to play Bulwark next to get the fully leveled melee weapon trophy, I'm 90% toward achieving the 20,000 enemies killed trophy, still having a blast despite the performance issues so I'll keep fighting the good fight, for the Emperor!
 
Loving the game , it's gorgeous! Maxed out with a 4070ti in the 80fps , already encountered a bug , a door wouldn't open I had to restart it! Loving that photo mode! This game will take me a long time to finish this!
 
Downloaded the first game for heresy's sake to compare the two games, remind myself how opriginal game looked back then and even though it's not one-to-one direct comparison (the first game don't even have a photo mode) but...

Well, visuals and enemies you have to fight aside, SM2 is basically the same game. Plus, TLOU2 (as well as U4/ULL) also a giant leap visually in comparison to TLOU1 and these games are 1 gen apart : )

Got my tactical marine to lv.25
Finally getting the parry timings down. The whip guys always attack twice, so you need to parry them twice to get quick fire, for example.
Having fencing on the weapon really helps though, especially when things get hectic.
Gonna level up Bulwark or Vanguard next.

What I mean is that the budget is not only the visuals, but also everything else the game has - SP, MP and co-op. Not to mention that the game doesn't even have Denuvo for which you need to pay a lot of money.

I highly doubt that Focus had a ton of money to make SM2 a thing in the first place, same goes for A Plague Tale games which were made by a very small but extremely talented dev team, which is way more important. Saber also had an engine capable of making the game too, so they don't need to pay for UE5 for example.

Moreover, talented artists matter of course, a lot, but nowadays it's not that difficult to make a good looking B level game even (with some caveats but still), here's one example -

What level are you guys when you start clearing the Substantial and Ruthless operations? Either solo or with a team.

Man I feel like the "recommended" level is way too low or I just suck lol. Ive got my tactical at level 11 and its a challenge to clear "average" difficulty even with a full squad. The ranged units just do so much damage, Ill be sitting there with 2 medpacks, full health and armor... then all of a sudden Im just chunked down to about 10% life and I dont even know what happened. Ive gotten pretty decent with the parry and mitigating the melee damage. But when 3 or 4 of those majoris ranged units are focusing me down, Its just a firing squad I have no clue what to do.

I need to go clear "substantial" to upgrade the next round of weapons, but Im feeling like Ill just get totally stomped.

Well obviously, but most of the budget goes into visuals, this isn't just artists but also the programmers that do the engine work so it supports advanced rendering technologies. But it doesn't matter, point is that the first game is quite old now and had a smaller budget so the improvement isn't very surprising.

Play with the melta rifle. It changes everything.

Mattdaddy Mattdaddy sorry I did not finish my post before posting it.

Basically the melta rifle is an extremely overpowered shotgun that melts the small ennemy hordes. You can kill like 5/7 small tyranids in ONE shot, which also means that you will replenish the health you lose every time you shoot with it (the white part of your health bar).
It is also extremely powerful against big IA, as it burns them overtime for additional damage.

The only issue is the ammunition but if you play smart you only use your pistol for small packs of ennemies (or melee) and save your shotgun for the big waves. And once you upgrade the weapon you can have way more ammo and ammo regen.

Another key part of success is to take a "fencing" melee weapon and to learn the timing for parry. With fencing, you will ALWAYS make a perfect parry and have an opportunity for the heavy pistol shot that follows, which do a shit ton of damage.

Dont rush things when you face big ennemies: shoot once with your shotgun, wait for the parry opportunity to deal big damage, and finish them with an execute.

Another key factor is to ALWAYS stick with your team mates: at tier 3/4 level, hordes can easily split your team which create some very dramatic and quick deaths.

Enjoy, it is VERY efficient to play that way (I managed to finish a tier 4 mission solo that way with my vanguard) and also immensely fun. You basically play like a badass: you rush the swarms and melt them like they were nothing :d

Just started this on pc. Maxed out 4k. Would love an ultrawide option but so far it looks and plays great aside from the odd stutter and texture loading in. Definitely scratching that gears itch for me.
 
Playing Sniper in PvP but actually running around with the high fire rate SMG type gun is so much fun. Cloak around the corner from enemies, they have stronger guns but it doesn't matter when by the time they realize you're shooting at them they're at half health. My favorite is encountering a heavy, have them pop their shield, then I cloak and sit in the spot until the shield is down and then I uncloak and murder them 😆

The sticky nade works great for this play style. I want to unlock that last grenade and see how it does. Only downside to this play style is you die a lot if the enemies are grouped up.
 
The Co-Op Operations are an absolute blast. Especially on harder difficulties...some of the most intense and fun moments I've had in a game in a LONG time.

And each attempt or completion is very rewarding with the leveling up system and unlockable perk/cosmetics. This game is amazing.
 
I really hope the devs can address two of my major issues with this game.
1. The glacial slow loading on PS5, it's probably the slowest loading game on PS5, even taking into account BC PS4 games like RDR2.

2. Getting into and out of each of the three main modes, campaign, PvE, and PvP is very cumbersome and frankly annoying. We need a standard menu.

Bulwark is a lot more challenging than Heavy but there is something immensely satisfying about getting in the middle of a horde and letting loose with your chainsword, blood splattering all over your armor as the enemy is torn limb from limb.

Hello! Does anyone had problems with the pvp? Stuff like getting killed behind walls, commands that don't imput after pressing the buttons. Probably lag but just checking

How long does it take to fully level a character?

Well, you have to *get* to tier 4 and jumping in before you're ready is a death sentence. I'd say at least 10 hours if you're playing "naturally" which for me means playing all the different missions, not running the same one over and over, exploring for armory data etc. I do wish XP was a little more generous but when I'm having fun it doesn't feel like a grind.

Leveling my vangiard to 25 took me more or less beating all operations on all dificulty levels once, + some failed attempts you also get XP for, so I'd say around around 30 rounds total.

I played a bunch of PvP matches over the weekend on PS5 and generally had a really good experience - once I switched to a wired connection. Though my router isn't located well for Wi-Fi, so wireless may be okay otherwise. I should also note that I'm in Scandinavia and the servers seem quite good. At best 20-ish ping, at worst 100-ish.

I don't play a lot of multi-player games in general on PS5 and I was really surprised by how well the PvP plays! My favorite so far being Assault with the Hammer melee weapon.

You can almost guarantee two-shot an enemy if you land the diving attack, followed by a single swing while they're stunned.

Also love the charged Hammer R1 attack. Especially when you lure someone around a corner and then surprise them with it (insta-kill if both swings hit, which is quite likely given the reach and AoE).

Yeah, probably lagging then. Going to upgrade my internet connection. Thank for the tips! I'm at max level unlocked all weapons in the pvp though.

My playstile rules are:

1) Never be alone, always with other player very close. Ideally all 6 togueter. If you are outnumbered you are already dead.
2) Always a dodge away from cover.
3) play your class strength with teamwork
4) locate ammunition and Grenade boxes.

The perfect parry using the bulwark doesn't seem consistent to me. I haven't downloaded the patch so maybe that helps.
 
I'm m gonna be honest :
The PS5 performance of this game is INEXCUSABLE, in fact, I'm surprised that the "press" either downplayed it or didn't even bother to mention how bad it really is, we're talking about the game dropping to 30fps most of the time where shit hits the fan - and that's 99% of the time.
When shit doesn't hit the fan...it still feels like it almost never reaches the 60fps mark.VRR doesn't help at all obviously.

Maybe it's because people are hungry for a good 40K game, maybe it's because the fanbase is very ho-hum about it but, again, the game shouldn't have been released in this state - and the funny part ? That the "performance patch" for the game is going to be the PS5 Pro.

Personally, I'd have taken 3 points off the final score due to this if I were to review to it, frankly, it's horrible and I feel like I wasted 70 big ones, I just don't find it to be enjoyable nor playable like this, it feels like wading through molasses/playing in slow motion 99% of the time FFS...
Add to that continuous loading screens that take almost 30 seconds each and...

I can understand that it's CPU bound but still, it's technical incompetence on the Dev's part, either tone things down, optimize it properly or don't release it in such a state...

What a let down, feels like I'm back to the PS360 era, it's one of the worst performing games on the PlayStation 5 (if not the worst).

Big fan of these patch notes, especially the changes to ranged enemies. Getting obliterated by some off-screen firing squad on higher difficulties wasn't a fun challenge it was dumb lol.

I like all these changes really, pumped to give it a test run tonight.

Chaos Marine teleport cooldown increased - big W.

Finally finished the Campaign last night. Loved it, one of the best SP games I've played this generation. And it's gotten me interested in 40K, to the point I've gone from knowing almost nothing to listening to a lore podcast and reading the Eisenhorn omnibus in a few weeks.

Can't wait to get into the PvE.

OK, don't want to jump the shark here but, I think the performance got better with yesterday's patch ?
I'm on the last planet and the framedrops aren't as bad as the in the previous levels that I've played, it feels like the game's hovering around the 45-50ish fps mark now when things get hectic - unless the final levels already ran better performance-wise even before the patch - can anyone playing on PS5 confirm this ?

There's nothing about performance fixes in the patch log but, again, game has been running nicely on the last final levels.

I've played a whole lot of Operations the last two days and I've loved everything about it--it's scratching the same itch as Mass Effect 3 for me (diverse classes, rich environments, leveling up and grinding but not too ridiculous), and I played about 750 hours of that. I'm loving everything about it except for the busted matchmaking, that is. It's better than at launch, when my PS5 would disconnect from the internet completely while I was in SP and I'd have to restart the whole system to get back online, but it ain't good. More patches, please!
 
Finally finished the campaign. That ending. Enjoyed it but didnt find it better than the first. It really is a looker though and I'm hoping part 3 is greenlit. These games made me like the 40K universe.

Still need to do the last 3 operations. Havent tried pvp modes yet.

Yeah I was playing on PS5, but it's getting choked in performance. I'd like to think it's GPU, but yeah I'd like to think the Pro can eliminate the issue(s).
 


Ive played some annihilation matches but found it boring. I was top 3 with the heavy gunner everytime.
 
Is this game any fun when playing solo? From the trailers it looks like a somewhat generic 3rd person action game. I love the universe, but unless I can convince my Helldivers buddies to play Space Marine 2, most of the time I'll be going solo.

Absolutely, that's my preferred way to play every co-op centric game whether it's Diablo, Borderlands, Helldivers, Remnant etc. I have almost 80 hours clocked, 10 hours in PvP to get trophies, campaign all solo, Operations about 50% solo since they didn't have private lobbies when I was playing (since patched). I'm waiting for the Pro before jumping back in, the game is fantastic 👌

At least on PC the bottle neck is CPU related... the thing the pro is apparently not improving. So yeah... I mean I suspect their to be an impact but not as much for SM2 on the pro.
