Zelda Switch 2 Editions support "medals" (trophies/achievements)... thru Zelda Notes app?

I don't recall this being part of the main presentation. It seems like the Zelda Notes app basically has a trophy system. Leave it to Nintendo to implement it in the most bass ackwards way, through an external app instead of in the system. :pie_unamused:

I'm all for Nintendo finally implementing their own achievement/trophy system but if it's only through game specific apps on your phone that's incredibly stupid

I was about to say the game already had medals to collect but these are different from killing all the Molduga etc.

My God nintendo.... WE DO NOT WANT TO USE OUR PHONES

FFS they did this with the chat system

It's 2025 and somehow Microsoft, Sony and PC figured out a trophy system in god damn 2005

Seems that these are just specific to this game / these Zelda games, and not an actual system-wide achievement/trophy system like PlayStation and Xbox have had for years. Nintendo gonna Nintendo, I guess.

You don't get it. It's nintendo innovations. From the same company that brought you cardboard VR on a crappy 720p screen at 30fps.

For me it was more a chuckle. It was a cliche bait and switch that even threw some suspense in there. You can feel the collective deflating sigh at such a disconnected experience. Everything in the app could easily be in game, as far as I can tell.

It's Nintendo. They'll always find a way to do things "their way" even when the technology already exists, like their own 15fps version of discord/eyetoy that they revealed.

Don't care.

Just want to know what the frame rate is for BoTW.
I'm betting 1440p/60fps

Well xbox did in 2005

Steam didnt add achievements until '07 and sony in '08. Frankly one of the better aspects sony copied from xbox

I don't really care about achievements. I do think I saw the upgrade price for this game was $1000 Yen.

This app might be the silliest thing they showed. They could make used of features that Switch 2 could provide in conjuction with the c button.

Finally the second screen experience we have all been waiting for!!!
I would actually use an app if it offered something. Like the way you could connect a GBA to the GameCube to control Tingle in Wind Waker. Probably to much work for Nintendo to implement it though.

Achievements are one of the most worthless things in gaming.

Glad they kept it to an optional app. I just turn that stuff off at a system level when I can anyhow.

People collect achievements because they enjoy it. People play games because they enjoy it. They're both fun for different people and having achievements that you can turn off anyways is only a positive. There's no negative at all.

My brother and I had some damn good times with that, crystal chronicles, and 4 swords back in the day

Switch 1 had voice chat through a phone. Switch 2 has voice chat native.
Gotta wait for switch 3 for native cheevos

It reminds me of Brendan Fraser's film, Bedazzled.

Very well Nintendo.. It only took you almost 20 years to implement it.

Nice to see Nintendo nearly reach the Xbox 360 PS3 era for the Switch 2. Ignoring the crazy advancements of a built in mic and games having PS2 EyeToy gimmicks, but actually still making users use features on a 2nd third party device is just weird.

Was like when every game seemed to have a companion app for no reason. Games like Red Dead 2, GTA V, and even Battlefield having that commander mode or whatever it was for mobile devices. They all died a quick death.

Could they not have added it to the screen as a pop up like what they showed for the party chat stuff with the live 10 fps game feeds?

When I had my switch not having trophies really bothered me. Shame they didn't implement them the way everyone else is doing it.

We're never getting trophy equivalents for Nintendo games without some dumb shoehorned implementation, ffs 🤦‍♂️

Yeah always thought they'd use the term Medals instead of Trophies and Achievements
I always thought if they'd implement a trophy system they'd do it with coins and stars, if you collect all coins in a game you earn a star, which would bebthe equivalent of a platinum trophy.

Never cared about medals/trophic/achievements in game unless they actually do something like unlocking actual in game stuff like modes, skins, and other things similar to how the Ratchet and Clank games were and other older games.

I was just reading about the Zelda Notes as I haven't heard about this before.

Pretty interesting this is game specific. I guess the Play Notes are the closest you get to Medals.

Not going to use even once whatever app nor the new Microsoft Teams C button nor the ridiculous mouse feature. Just as I never used any pointer nor vibrations stuff from Switch 1. Useless shit.

Make a good console, make good games.
