If you were made the new CEO of Nintendo, taking effect after today's Treehouse. What do you do?

Is there anything you change and fix to course correct the public's anger?

Can Nintendo accomplish this by June launch?

What's the discourse?

People complaining the system costs too much and games are expensive?

All that blows over once the games come.

I must be off on messaging because the system price is not an issue at all.

Games prices are something else and I understand those complaints. I know I will find discounted games somewhere so I'm not panicking. If I have to wait a few months for a game that's fine. It's nintendos job to make me want to buy a game day one. If the quality isn't quite there, I'll wait.

Nintendo will only fix game pricing if it works out badly enough for them...and I'll be honest I'm hoping it does because I don't want to see $80-90 games become a new standard, even if the games are really good.

That said, consumers are gonna consooom, so if the games are really great, it will still probably work out. Either way, they lost an early sale from me, and I'll wait on the system until stuff is cheaper, and more games are out.

Sometimes I wish having been here at the time of the Xbox One reveal mess meltdowns. The last few days weren't exactly up there, but it's more than enough for me. I'm happy.

My new CEO?

Anyway... I'd order a new Wave Race to be made, and tell everybody who has a problem with it to fuck right off.

1.) I would work with everyone to have a "Please Understand video" for all social media and offer full transparency on everything about Switch 2. EVERYTHING! Pricing, game carts, upgrades, online, chat, 3rd parties, etc.

2.) With increased pricing i would guarantee a Pokemon Scarlet Violet situation never happens again at launch. Games would be delayed instead of releasing. Even if it missed holiday.

3.) I would discuss and evaluate all pricing strategies. Having multiple options for later if needed.

4.) I would ready more GC/3ds/Wii U ports for Switch 1 and Switch 2 upgrades (just in case you need to rely on Switch 1 the way Sony needed PS4 after PS5 launched).

5.) I would order a Switch 2 TV (instead of switch 2 Lite) be designed asap with full production in 2026. Target price must be between $250-$299.

6.) I would order a Wii Mini Classic be made for 2026 for the 20 year anniversary. 10 Games and two Wii motes for $149. Just in case!

No. In fact...

What is there to fix when their console sold 150 million units and they just stole From Soft Bloodborne 2 exclusivity right under Sony's nose

System price is acceptable currently. If tariffs take the US price to over $700. Then that is a different story. That story is developing now. Kotaku, and financial outlets are stating gaming industry will be hit hard by tariffs.

For fun, it would push ps5 pro close to a $1k. Just so Nintendo doesn't get to have all the fun.

No need to fix anything. I'm not even a a Nintendo dow hard, I'm an Xbox/PC giy and I'll say in the do will once again romper stomp all over Sony and MS in sales. As usual nobody HERE and on other gaming forums will care because they are not 4K/60FPS everything…. Meanwhile casual Johnny…. Your mom, your kids and everybody else will still just want a mind te so in the house. They are gonna win again so let's just kill this nonsense that anything they are doing right now is gonna fuck them up. It's not. Just say your mad at 90 dollar games. ( you are gonna pay more for GTA6 anyway)

But yeah if I was CEO of Nintendo Id come out on a stage in a red suit, suge knight style and say… " hey if you want a console where your exclusives are actually exclusive…. Come get down with Nintendo * drops mic and throws up dubs*

suge knight all in the video GIF

I don't think there's anything to fix except maybe the upgrade from Switch to Switch 2 for games, it feels like a cheap-ass move, even more cheap-ass than what Sony did for the PS5 upgrades.

Upgrading to a new console should upgrade your library "automatically" like it does when you upgrade your PC and rediscover some of your old games.

At some point the Switch will be the biggest selling console ever, they don't have to change course one bit. They've overpriced their new console ( so did Sony with the PS5 Pro) and game prices but unless sales suffer you can't really blame them.

I'm 100% sure they anticipated and expected this public shock to happen.

Give it a month and people will have cooled down. All they have to do is wait.

They know they'll be selling the June launch units to enthusiasts and will have plenty of time to plan more attractive bundles etc. for the holidays.

I would demand a Doki Doki Panic sequel since they have been so reluctant on making a sequel to Super Mario Bros 2.

This would right the ship!

I would just update the switch one with new system update allowing over clock

Bring back gold coins

Release a new f-zero and star fox.

Reduce switch 2 price and games. Plus updates are via online expansion
Have the switch 2 come with a Wii sports style game for free.

Tease super Mario universe

Their problems are so deep rooted.

You will have to uproot Nintendo itself if you want to find them.

Nintendo and their problems are hardly distinguishable at this point.

If I was shrewd and cutthroat (and soulless) enough then I'd probably change nothing. Despite all the noise everyone is making here the Nintendo craze is too powerful globally. Nintendo pulled a brilliant move I have to admit begrudgingly. If people actually started voting with their wallets and the sales were piss-poor compared to projections then I'll discount the Switch2 by $40 and bundle it with some digital game.
I'd also hold an emergency Nintendo Direct where I 'sincerely' thank the fans and reduce the price by $10 for the games out of my pure benevolence.

I'll also blow smoke up people's arses by making a bunch of cheap trailers for 'upcoming games' that haven't had their development started yet to get them to buy into my bullshiit; dream games that people have been craving for decades, games that half of which will be canceled and the other half will come out in 2032. I'll also make fake promises to upgrade the online system; add achievements "Soon" and add a family sharing function like xbox/steam "Soon" :)

Nintendo fanatics are like apple fanatics; they have no self-control and forget what scandals happened even two weeks ago. You think I'm kidding but half of the people here will lap that bullshit right up then forget about the promises that were made to them or gaslight themselves and even defend Nintendo's shenanigans.

Nintendo only do what Nintendo want to do.

If you were CEO you would have already bought into their hivemind and way of doing things - you wouldn't change (or be able to) a single thing.

I was planning on making an astro-fuck-nominal amount of posts on Gaf about it.

Seems like the other 2734 folks here have the same plan for a quick promotion at Nintendo.

I would make games $100, announce that there would never be any discounts and cancel backward compatibility. Then post Jack Nicholson laughing gif.

Absolutely nothing. We already have rabid fanboys defending our every stupid decisions. Maybe do that stripper thing from the second post.

Wow the amount of errors in the op. Is this what I escaped gamefaqs for?

What would I do? Yes, and then no. It's MY CEO.

I don't think it's getting any better than the Mario Kart bundle this year.

That is the attractive bundle.

Sure, but I think they have a plan A, B, and C for various scenarios.

If sales tank way below expectations post launch I think we'll definitely get more and better holiday deals and bundles than if not.

Of course if it did as poorly as 3DS they could change plans, but I sincerely doubt they have the trigger ready to pull on what exactly to do if it tanks. I don't think their assessment of how the console is doing, to which they would be able to react, would even be complete until after this holiday (the real ending of its launch period).

How is the CEO of Nintendo supposed to fix the minds of hobbyist gamers? What can he do to convince them that they haven't been the target demographic for over 20 years? I don't even think they make up a sizable chunk of the Nintendo hardware sales pie chart. Nintendo makes hardware explicitly for non gamers who kinda like to game occasionally. The GFs who play a little Mario Party, the moms who want to unwind to some Toad's Treasure Tracker etc.

I would increase prices. Clearly there is a lot of demand. People want the console.

They will complain but they will pay.

Personally i would realease docked mode only much stronger switch2, we know already switch zelda's run in 1440p60 on switch2 which means its still far to weak to do 4k60, so i would realease 3x more powerful stationary "switch2 compatible" console for home users only.

I know there is market for that coz some ppl never take their switch away from under their tv spot, thats the reason we got switch pr0 controller and switch2 pr0 controller after all.
3x stronger "docked only switch" would be bit below base ps5(but still over 2x more powerful from xbox series s), so its perfectly doable since ps5 launched 4,5years ago, no reason for nintendo to not launch similary powerful console 5 years after if they would be willing...
It wouldnt affect gaming division trouthput since it would work with same games, just upped resolution, just like ps5 and ps5pr0(and previously ps4/ps4pr0, xbox one s/x and series s/x worked), it would simply be "pr0 version of switch2 docked mode only" aka ps5pr0.

It wouldnt sell gangbusters, probably 10-20% of total switch sales, but option for homeboys would be nice, on top we would have pr0 version for marketting purposes and to see how those games gonna look/play "maxed out".

After going from Wii to WiiU I think they have a several scenarios.

the major thing and only thing i would change is getting their teams off a bajillion remakes and start getting new stuff out the door again.

like yes paper Mario the 1000 year door is a great game, but do new stuff. I've played the old stuff many times.

If you are going to bring over the old stuff then minimize it to shit that's stuck in limbo and can't be played today by legal means like Star fox adventures, but even then, the GC emulator is there so there's no excuses. New games!!!

If they did do it. I would probably want to get the pro console and Switch 2 lite. So I get better graphics on TV and smaller portable everywhere else. But this only really works in a scenario of Xbox-like cloud saves. That's why I undock my Switch instead of buying a lite...

Gotta say if I was running Nintendo I wouldn't do this. I don't think adding a hardware profile and image/marketing confusion is worth it in a world where Switch 2 runs Elden Ring and Cyberpunk without your eyes bleeding.

I know politics aren't allowed, but why should Nintendo be blamed for Trumps tariffs?

I dont understand this
