The Nintendo Switch 2's horsepower made the Civilization team "extremely happy," according to Dennis Shirk, an executive producer on the franchise.

Speaking to Game File, Shirk said that working with Nintendo on Switch 2 has been "easy."

"Their [software development kit] is great, the customer support, their developer support, developer relations is great," Shirk said.

Other developers, such as Hogwarts Legacy developer Avalanche Software, has been working on porting to Switch 2 for around a year.

"We originally started with our Switch version," Nelson said. "We got very good results really quickly, but we felt like we could make a higher quality product if we brought in a lot of the high-res assets [and] raised the resolution, textures, lighting, world streaming."

Because they can just seamlessly port their old shit for it, Nintendo will do the marketing and they can charge 80$ for it for almost no investment… Of course they gonna be happy, Switch 2's gonna print money for free…

I mean take it like this. They get to re-sell a lot of games like Hogwarts Legacy and they don't have to have their hands as tied as they were with the Switch, but their hands are still going to be tied in pretty short order here. We're 2-3 years out from the start of a new console generation that is going to be heavily factored around upscaling and ray tracing/path tracing. It'll be easier to scale games from Switch 2 to say PS6 than Switch to PS5, but these games aren't going to perform anywhere near what people have grown accustomed to which is 60 fps AAA gaming.

Switch 2 is going to get bombarded with ports from all prior and current generations. Just open the floodgates and watch the games drown on the Eshop.

Not surprising.
Switch 1 seemed like a pain to work with unless you were making games specifically for it or porting over some indie game with simple graphics.
With Switch 2 I imagine many devs can port over games easier and without having to spend a ton of time optimizing for them to run acceptably.

Especially with the Switch 2 utilizing DLSS, I'm not shocked about developers having an easier time porting their games over to it. While the hardware on a macro scale isn't "best-in-class", it is leagues ahead of the original Switch.

of course they are happy, they can finally port their games to another huge market.

Cool, firaxis likes the power. So? Shoukd i be happy? It's not like you didnt release it on switch xbox one and ps4, holding it back already. Switch 2 will support standard maps instead ot just small like the switch 1? Amazing

Saw part of this interview. He mentions how the Switch1 version of Civilization includes the mouse control functionality with the $10 upgrade.

Will be interesting to see the results once the launch happens and more dev kits go out to publishers like Embracer and the Chinese developers.

Western support looks good and there's more to come there, but Eastern support is less certain.

Does Capcom bring just PS4 games or does it bring PS5-only stuff too? RGG have finally gone onboard but what about Atlus and Bandai Namco Studios?

I think we'll have a clearer idea by the end of the year.

I will be honest I have zero I interest playing multiplatform game on my Switch 2.

I'm buying that system for its first party games and 3rd party game especially made for Switch 2.
