Women in Games calls on Steam to remove game which promotes sexual assault

does steam control the listings in any way? Surely they must have some kind of process to get the weird stuff out
AFAIK, game with adult-only/sexual tags are pretty hidden if you don't actively search for them. I think you can also block tags if you don't want to see them.

Steam is kinda Youtube, your homepage will be generated based on your taste.

On her linkedin page it says, "Marie-Claire Isaaman is a recognized thought leader, entrepreneur, and executive"

She's also from the UK. A country notorious for thought regulation.

The game is an adult visual novel with "a huge focus on incest and male domination", where players have to respond to their mother's affair by "claiming her for yourself".

Its Steam description tells players they have to "own her", and then "become every woman's worst nightmare" and "leave no p*ssy non-f*cked, since that's the only thing they all want – never take 'no' for an answer".

The game's Steam page, which also includes a screenshot of a woman with a hand clenched around her throat, says it "graphically contains sex and violence, mature language, nudity, graphic depictions of oral, vaginal, and other sexual activities" and "includes incest, blackmail, unavoidable non-consensual sex, as well as the use of drugs, alcohol and cigarettes."

Women in Games CEO Dr Marie-Claire Isaaman has called on Valve to "act urgently" and remove the game from Steam, saying the game's content "is not only vile and dangerous, but also actively promotes the dehumanisation of women and girls."

"The fact that a game like this is available on Steam — one of the world's largest gaming platforms — is utterly unacceptable," she added. "It sends a clear and distressing message: that violence against women is not only tolerable, but playable. That message has no place in our industry, our communities, or our society."

bro:
"In this game, you'll either become every woman's worst nightmare… or rather: the best dick they'll ever have. Your goal is simple: leave no pussy non-fucked, since that's the only thing they all want. Never take 'no' for an answer.
Fuck your mom, fuck your auntie, and even fuck your friend's mom. Why not?"
even your friend's mom, as if that is the bridge too far in that sentence.

I consider the premise to be disgusting but to each their own... They just need to raise attention in order to farm some money from donors or so, that's how ONGs work

No interest in this game, but I hope Steam won't cave. Because this is a test case, once you do it, they are going to be scouring every game they find problematic, and ask Steam to deplatform it, and then Steam will either completely cave and give them editorial power on what shows up on Steam, or eventually they will push too far and Steam will have to say no to them.

If Steam doesn't plan to completely cave, they are going to eventually have to say no to them, so just say no now and save yourself the months and years of dealing with their complaints, and be caught in the middle of a culture war battleground.

Just tell them to lighten up, it's just a game, and ignore them.

Fuck the censorious twats.

Lot of the people buying this visual novel garbage are women btw. They love fantasising about this stuff.

We here at Anti Violence for Future Kids (AVfFK) are shocked at how the gaming industry to this day glorifies violence and murder. If this continues future generations will most certainly turn out to be mass murderers.

We have also been in talks with Lawful Driving is Safe Driving (LDiSD) and are planning a joint effort to SAVE LIVES by demanding that driving games be made in a way that promotes strictly legal conduct. Or we will all suffer the consequences of gleeful vehicular manslaughter.

There will be plenty of Reee'ing and social media activism like you've never experienced if you don't make games a moral mirror of the society we want tomorrow....today.

Thank you on behalf of our children.

They never learn, just the same talking points again and again.

How many studies haven't there been debunking this tired notion of what people do in games they will go out and do in society. I mean psychos are psychos, but they would snap by watching fucking Teletubbies or whatever.

Creepy ass game, for sure. But I'm guessing it isn't illegal or else they would've gotten the authorities involved instead of clutching their moral-pearls.

It's gross and weird, but I never agree with censorship in any capacity.

I won't buy the game, so I'm unconcerned with its content. If you're concerned with the content, don't purchase it, don't play it, problem solved.

Censorship is never the answer.
Never?

Zoofilia, necrofilia, pedo, racism and etc. are ok?

I think Steam should draw a line. Not all topics should be banned, but sexual abuse is a bit too much, imo. Some line must be drawn, I think.

But oh well, its a private online store, so they know whats best for them.

No, it shouldn't. You having a distaste for it doesn't mean everyone will. I say this as a father who finds it disturbing; if there's a market for a product, then it should be allowed to flourish unabated so long as it's not hurting anyone. We all play games where we brutalize and murder countless others, and I'm fairly certain that you and I haven't killed anyone before.

I'd rather the weird perv who gets off on this shit have an outlet that doesn't hurt anyone rather than feel pent up.
There's a market for everything, but that doesn't mean everything should be sold or platformed. I think a game like this crosses a line — not just because it's weird but because it actively centres abuse and incest as a reward system, with no narrative framing or critique. This isn't God of War is a rape scene for example. This kind of content doesn't just reflect taboo fantasies, it can normalize harmful behaviour, especially for vulnerable or impressionable gamers.

Your position assumes that all gamers are rational, informed, and unaffected by what they consume — but that's not always true. Games/films/books etc. can influence perception, and certain ideas, when repeated and unchallenged, can gradually shift what people view as acceptable or desirable.

As for your point about violence in games — yes, we do play games that involve killing, but I feel like that comparison doesn't quite hold. In most violent games, the killing is exaggerated, or framed around clear moral stakes (fighting enemies, saving lives, etc.). It's rarely the point of the game, and almost never framed as something to emulate in real life. I.E. GTA.

With games like the one in question, its seems the goal is to manipulate and dominate someone who shouldn't be sexualized at all, especially not in a non-consensual, incestuous context. That's not just dark fantasy — that's content that promotes abuse under the guise of entertainment. I'd draw the line here, it shouldn't be platformed and its why you'll never see something like this on PSN, eshop or Xbox marketplace.

Fuck my country (Australia) is as weak as piss. I see zero reason in banning a game like this. Let people decide. We are grown fucking adults. These games are NOT real life. We can differentiate between characters on a screen and real world people you fucking morons. My goodness I loathe censorship.

I support that. But I'm a bit of a prude on the porn stuff. I'd take all of it down. I tried to look at this through a more moderate lens, and I just can't even split hairs within the porn genre in regard to what crosses a line like that. I'm seeing less and less benefit from the set of values all my gen x and millennial peers adopted around the turn of the century. This is pretty much all it has gotten us. I'm ready to Tipper Gore some shit.

To all the prudes who wanna cenzor this shit, i present u worldwide bestseller series of books, who women love to read:
Fifty Shades of Grey is a 2011 erotic romance novel by British author E. L. James.[1] It became the first instalment in the Fifty Shades novel series that follows the deepening relationship between a college graduate, Anastasia Steele, and a young business magnate, Christian Grey. It contains explicitly erotic scenes featuring elements of sexual practices involving BDSM (bondage/discipline, dominance/submission, and sadism/masochism).

Oh, and funny thing, its not a niche with few k copies sold like that steam game
The trilogy had sold over 150 million copies worldwide by October 2017
Nuff said :D

Now i wonder who in the holy hell is buying that book, are those those evil cis males again or maybe, just maybe, its the women themselfs ;D

I don't think this kind of smut inspires real world actions for most 1st world people. The majority of first worlders can distinguish reality and fantasy. I think that it's depiction of SA is it's least harmful aspect. The real harm is just porn addiction. Young men are being destroyed by so much right now, lack of strong father figures, lack of masculinity, and such easy access to porn that I think anyone under the age of thirty has likely been addicted since before their balls even dropped. So now they are all addicted, and after 15 years of feminism telling all men that just unwanted flirting is rape, you have young men that have no clue how to approach woman. So those that do end up doing it in creepy ways because, how they going to act when no man has taught them how to act? And furthermore, every day the punishments towards acting that way are lessened and lessened, crazy enough by more people just like her. Constantly calling for the lessening of punishments towards all criminals. Just furthering enabling the people who do actually do this kind of sick stuff irl.

If men were allowed to be masculine again, and actual figures in their communities, when some gross chud was acting out of line, they'd be allowed to beat the shit out of him. But not nowadays with how feminized society is, chud just needs therapy, and Chad is actually the problem, he needs a prison sentence for protecting his sister from chuds unwanted advances.

I think she's a gross goblin looking grifter. She doesn't care a single bit about helping woman, she cares about virtue signaling to make herself both feel better and get a quick buck. If she wanted to actually help woman, the best way to do that is by helping men, actually be men again, and stopping all porn from being accessible to children, not targeting some niche game that probably never would've topped 5000 sells world wide if not for the attention she brought to it.

i think they caved on hated sadly.

Last time I stood up against censorship I purchased Hatred. Didn't play more than an hour or so before I uninstalled it. I mean, if you're going to sell XXX (AO) rated games then idk. Hardcore people like hardcore roleplay scenarios. It just needs a disclaimer and it does with being on the adult side of Steam. You could filter these games.

It's a hard argument to get rid of it because Steam already allows adult games and the incest/force genre don't just cease to exist in the adult industry. You have participants who actively agree to star in those scenes. This is a video game in an adult video game category. I don't think it needs to be banned. Let me know if someone features kids or some sick f***** stuff like that then I might feel different about it.

Looks like it's just fetish stuff. As long as it's properly age gated and labeled, who the fuck cares what somebody might be into. Should we let these women go through everybody's personal list and cross out stuff they don't like or feel comfortable with?

Feels like this meme:

Couldn't agree more. I'm not for censorship, but I feel there should be a line drawn somewhere.

But you're correct, it's their platform, so they know what's best. I'll just continue to do what any regular sane person that doesn't like thing would do, and ignore it, lol. 🤷‍♂️

Steam let's just anything on it ... huh?

Steam has a +18 section.

Never?

100% sure Steam doesn't allow games with underage characters in adult games, so most game devs use the excuse 'she's a 1000 year old loli vampire'

I think the game itself is pretty fucking abhorrent, and frankly I think less of the people who bought and/or played it. Fucking garbage.

But, as long as its gated into its own section and I don't have to look at it, I don't think censorship is the right way to go. We have ratings for a reason - so people can avoid things they don't like. We don't need another party determining what I am and am not allowed to like. I mean, I absolutely get it - the game is fucking disgraceful - but once you start down that slippery slope, there's no getting off it.

Incest and domination? Someone went overboard with the edgynesss, but good work "women in games" you gave free publicity to some shitty gooner game no one besides a couple of degenerates would know it existed 🤦‍♂️

Saving this for next time one of the Ponies tries to use Steam reviews as some sort of quality barometer for shit games.

Very positive Steam reviews means that the TARGET AUDIENCE of that kind of trash finds it "good" according to their own expectations. It doesn't mean that game is quality by any objective standard.

Is this like that other edgelord game? You needed to kill as many people as possible..

Game looks trash, but I thought the same thing about 50 Shades of Gray being grape but it's ok because of a flimsy contract...and then women made that a bestseller for some reason.
Absolutely true; for every one game that exists like this for the male market there exists 1000 smut novels with most vile disgusting shit being done that makes this game looks tame in comparison that women read ravenously and masturbate to.

Fucking gynocentric hypocrisy. Let's crack down on those first yeah?

No one has problems with movies dealing with this subject matter so there shouldn't be this faux outrage when games have them either. Just put the proper ratings and warnings on it and move along.
