Previously, PS5's welcome hub had one animated background, which featured Astro Bot.

Now, backgrounds for Days Gone, Demon's Souls, Ghost of Tsushima, Ghost of Yotei, God of War Ragnarok, Horizon: Call of the Mountain, Horizon: Forbidden West, Lego Horizon Adventures, Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, Rise of the Ronin, and Stellar Blade have all been added, but are only available to certain users at the moment.

It's not yet clear when the backgrounds will be available to all players.

The welcome hub, which was introduced last year, allows players to customise widgets that will appear when they first boot their PlayStation console. These include things like messages, notifications, or controller battery level indicators.

Could they do it in the future? Well...you also got paid themes back in the PS3 and PS4 eras. So who knows. But considering they only appear in one screen i don't think so..it's not like they work like full themes.

No? The Astro Bot one has been available since November, and the article uses that wording because they're not appearing to everyone YET.

I have it. The Demon Souls is the one im currently using. Deleted almost all the widgets(except 3 since it's the minimum requirement) so I can actually see the damn background theme lol.

I don't see people paying for these. It covers only one tiny section (just the welcome page) and doesn't change icons nor adds new music. They are one step above Nintendo's current theme choices, one tiny step below Xbox's, and a huge step below PS4 and Vita.

If u have the game its the same image you get as wallpaper when you select the game, but it has crushed blacks during the animation that isent nothing especial as well. Disapointed as i love Stellar Blade but its one of the worst dynamic wallpapers.

I got them, they all appeared earlier, might have been there a while for all I know as it didn't stand out / wasn't really highlighted much on the dashboard
Can't really see them much anyway with the way the ps5 interface works with whichever game you have highlighted taking over the screen, it's not like the nice flashy backgrounds from ps3/4 where you could appreciate them when not being used

You misread Sony as Nintendo

You really have to hand it to both of them for hitting home runs like SNES/PS2 and having the courage to just throw both of their respective user flows/UIs/UXs in the trash forever.
Fast forward a few decades - the hated Windows' user flow and UI is literally the only way to game on a console or PC.
