Disgusting Trojan horses.

It's even scary when there's hype or a very important release in a video game or franchise.

Oblivion and the cursed horse armor...

Star Wars Battlefell II, with its loot boxes.

Same with Diablo and Overwatch.

NBA 2K: The cursed game that started the price hike.

Zelda TOTK: The expansion that made the game more expensive to sell on Switch.

Mario Kart world and the Infamous price....

Another example??
There's always uncertainty when a big game comes out... And they force it on us with nonsense. Another example: The Last of Us 2.

Is it really a trojan horse when theyre wearing it on their sleeves?

OT: Xbox in general was a good example of a trojan horse, for the longest time free games or games that were built for multiplayer (like destiny 2 or fortnite) required an xbox live gold account whereas ps+ on ps4/5 wasnt

Outrage increases with popularity. The bigger the fanbase for a game the bigger the hater base. Very few games are excluded from this. Even Elden Ring has haters. If you added up all the ER haters there would be quite a few.

Truth is, people dont get into a game for one reason or another. Then they resent that said game or its sequel is taking up oxygen in the industry. Familiarity breeds contempt, and more people have contempt for Nintendo and BotW than any other company or game. Their popularity generates billions of comments about how X game or X companies the best ever and when people who missed out on the trend hear this, it breeds contempt. The more they hear it the more adamant they are to oppose it. It's born from FOMO, and it's really the most aggressive reaction to it.

Don't think trojan horse is an apt description when gamers generally know these before buying upfront. These practices were scummy as hell and some became industry standards, but I think the analogy is kinda weak. They are more bait and switching and/or nickel and diming tactics. They add up to be very anti-consumer, but companies get away with it because it isn't big enough of a deal to stop most people from buying, and for horse-armor/excessive dlc they make up and then some any lost sales from frugal people.

I don't think you know what a Trojan Horse is if those are your examples

The Trojan horse according to OP

I was about to say I'm not sure Heimdall knows what a trojan horse is. Trojan horses are surprise attacks (at least by design). The examples are not surprises.

Also, at least in Overwatch 1, the loot boxes were pretty sensible, relatively speaking: No actual game content behind the boxes, just skins or stickers or voice lines.

I don't get this example, like at all.
We could say the trailer is misleading or the inclusion of woke elements... Which they hadn't mentioned.

Trojan horse refers to repulsive, controversial, or negative elements that impose it on important games...

It's like the hypothetical GTA VI with the new price.

The opinion of anyone who things ToTK is an expansion is hard to take seriously. Why can't sequels take place in the same map that has been updated as if 5 years passed in real life?

The biggest trojan horse in gaming history was Apple allowing "play now, pay later" apps on the store (back circa 2010, IIRC). Had they decided that apps are either fully free, or all costs are upfront, the entire gaming landscape as a whole would be so completely different, it would look like another reality.

Yeah, I spent about 100 more hours in TotK than I did in BotW. There's just so damn much content. I know people didn't like it, but I can see how they felt it was reasonable to raise the price and extra $10... And based on how Mario Kart 8 sold, they seem to think the same thing about Mario Kart World justifying $10 extra.

I think it's crazy how much people have flipped out over a $10 increase. Gaming is a luxury hobby, but people are acting like they're entitled to it, but to also never see a price increase (despite literally everything going up in price these days).

Diablo 3 real money auction house.

Artistic expression isn't a trojan horse. That's just freedom of speech. You can not like it, but it is what it is.

Remastering a game multiple times while adding just one new feature/mode and then charging full price for it, is a trojan horse (by your definition).
Metal Gear Survive was also a Trojan horse, because it was discovered that they were selling you slots for the character.

Darkened Skye on Gamecube was a trojan horse.

Seemed like a normal third-person light fantasy action game until you realised what was actually going on with the magic system. Nowhere on the coverart or marketing was it revealed that the game was in fact a Skittles promotion.

I'd never heard of that video game, and I like weird games... I didn't know that fun fact. 😃 We can consider it another Trojan horse.

Like Obama ads in burnout paradise.

WTF Zelda TOTK is not just "an expansion", BOTW content is like 20% of the whole game and I'm counting the reused map as well, which isn't even 100% the same
