That is just the intial pricing retailer sets for preordering without any actual pricing info just as my preorder was priced at 699€. The price has no real meaning until Sony announces the actual pricing for PS4.

I think this is just another policy with stores having to actually guess the pricing so they can put up pre-orders, so really the significance of this is kind of nil. Our Swedish store Webhallen lists the console for 6995:- which would implicate the US price to be $699, and no way is that happening. Plus, if it really were this cheap in the UK, US consoles would be a steal.

Placeholder prices always play it conservative and go higher, because they don't want to be caught with their pants down when the console ends up being more than the placeholder price.

Gamestop priced the Wii U at $999 and Wii U games at $99 when they first put up the preorder. It's place holder. They don't want to under estimate the price and have preorder customers upset.

I am not taking any notice of the price as it is a place holder, but it's not that much cheaper than what the PS3 was, and the PS3 was also a blu-ray player when blu-ray players were still expensive. The PS4 and Durango need to get as close to £300 as possible if they want an easier ride at retail.
