Bravely Default Demo Out Now on European E-Shop

Have you equipped shields on all your characters to soften his blows ? I am at the same level but the only strategy I've found is to hit and default alternatively each turn.
Nope, using two handed on both my physical attackers and shields on my two mages. My mages also have Angelic Ward and Damage Dispersal abilities though which helps a lot. I alternated between defaulting and then all out attacking with lots of Braves after he had used a turn in advance. Didn't take too long to beat that way.

The game does put emphasis on a story to the point it hired a well-known visual novel writer: http://www.siliconera.com/2012/03/29/bravely-defaults-story-is-about-independence/

As for the quality itself, I heard from fellow GAFfers there's some crazy twists there, though I don't want to ask more so that I don't spoil it for myself. That and the fact that the game had a lot of character skits, led me to believe that this isn't one of the "it's a throwback to classic JRPG so let's just slap a story here" stuff.

Awesome! Guess I'll have to pre-order it when I get some more money lol

I'll be frank.

I'm so jealous of you all, I hate NOA for failing localization like that.

Hope you'll all have fun, though. :)

Yeah, that's how I operated, thanks for the advice.
Now, on to the robot.

I found the automation easier than the dragon tbh. Although you do have to watch out since it can OHKO.
Damn, he's a tough motherfucker. I should have figured out from the start that I should my ninjustsu on all my characters each time he goes berserk.

edit : and done too. I wouldn't say he was easier than the dragon, his pattern was a bit less obvious to figure out

Is level 4 the max level for jobs in the full game too? I know the number of jobs is just crazy, but 4 still seems a bit low.

Going by the ability list, it looks like the max level would be something like 15. Grinding all those jobs would be pretty addictive in that case!

El Capitan Todd
I swear I'll be committed to try it deeper in the next days, at least to transfer significant data into the main game later on

about the grapchis-style: what do you people think about it compared to FF4 warrios of lights on the DS?

Heh. Guess I have to wait for the reviews. The "old school FF in all but name" doesn't exactly excite me, but we'll see.

I have to say, I also hate how much the game relies on spotpass/streetpass/whatever the systems are again. There's literally no way I'm getting any bonuses in Finland.

These kind of things are great on home consoles, like the pawn system in Dragon's Dogma, but with 3DS' online architecture... Nah. Not fond of it.

If you can connect to the internet you can download villagers each day, so Streetpass just makes it faster.

I think you can use internet friends for Abi-link and Summons, so you should be fine there too.

What I'm wondering is if we'll get the Spotpass stuff that Japan had (you could upload stuff to a BD server and get rewards from it).

No, I think the max lvl for jobs in the full version is lvl 14.

Oh okay, so I could just add you people and get the benefits that way?

Also where do I get the daily villager? Can't seem to find the option. Unless it's not in the demo, of course.

Thought it'd be like that. Perfect.

Lv14 is "MASTER". You can get a
Job Point Up
(really minor gameplay spoiler) support ability (pretty self-explanatory) by raising the Freelancer Job to Lv10. It's not that great, but I set it almost all the time. I only removed it temporarily after losing to the same boss over a dozen times.

Demo finished, gonna have fun in the main game =D
Anyway I've gotten all 7 reward sets now, they are:
Gameplay reward
Played the demo version
Caldislan Relief Set
Antidote x2
Eye Drops x2
Echo Herbs x2

Norende fully restored
Caldislan Adventurer's Set
Bronze Bangle x1
Phoenix Down x2

Mid-boss reward
Melusine reward
Caldislan Recovery Set
Potion x3
Hi-potion x1

Minotaur reward
Caldislan White Mage's Set
Staff x1
Ether x1

Adamant. Shell reward
Caldislan Black Mage's Set
Rod x1
Ether x1

Boss reward
Dragon reward
Caldislan Soldier's Set
Bronze Helm x1
Leather Armor x1

Automation reward
Caldislan Knight's Set
Broadsword x1
Buckler x1

Now that demo's done just gonna streetpass my OG 3DS to 20 villagers, cause I'm thinking I won't get that much streetpass with the full game and my 3DS friendlist is pretty much full.

Yeah, I tend to prioritize
exp/ap/etc up
abilities in JRPGs too - especially since the games are usually fairly easy. And I love grinding. BD does seem a ton harder than your average JRPG, though.

Anyway, I really can't wait for the full version.

Yeah, the difficulty really surprised me. If it's a good surprise or bad, I guess we'll see when the full game hits the stores.

Gameplay-wise it seems fucking great but if there's anyone here who has already played the full game, how's the story? The crazy stories with their twists and world-saving operations are half the game for me in JRPGs, I'm probably not gonna finish a game with a throwaway story.

I thought it was great. You really get a sense of adventure during the journey.

The daily villager thing isn't in the Demo.

This demo was only difficult AT the beginning lol, afterwards it was easy lol (I may have grinded too much, level 20 =P).

Anyway I felt the ability to those feeling it's hard level up performer, get Buff Up set it, each round all your attack and defense stats go up by 5%. Level up Black and White Mages, Damage Dispersion and Angelic Ward will help.

Throughout the demo, not once did I use a potion. If you are finding an area kicks your ass and you wanna get back into town, turn down your encounter rate to -100%.

And after you beat everything, read Automation, you cannot reread the help sheets they give you ='( I was going to copy their words for the OT, now I've gotta replay it on the OG 3DS...-___-

How do you streetpass the same 3DS?
He meant another 3DS, which you can re-streetpass to gain a villager each time.

More JRPGs should borrow from other games. This enc rate setting is the best thing I've seen since Xenoblade's fast travel. So convenient!

e: Also fast forward! Auto-battle would be nice too, but this is the next best thing. Lost Odyssey with it's mind-numbingly slow battles still makes me shudder.

Thank you so much for this! Now I know that I don't need to restore the village, since the reward isn't worth it at all. Especially since I only have the two villagers you get playing the game. :p

I like this game very very much , as it reminds me of what Final Fantasy used to be :)
But i still cant get my head around the different jobs.
For example i try to have a white mage, black and red mage but everytime i give them those kind of jobs they cant use any abilities :(
I know this sounds very stupid but i would love to get an aswer to that as this game seems to be very very nice.

You need to buy those magic abilities from a shop. The Jobs' levels must also be high enough to use those abilities.

Yes both these features are awesome, in fact random battles will no longer be a complaint in an RPG if other games copied the system. I also love the fast forward option, IIRC P4 Golden has a simliar system but this ones much faster.

Yeah tbh most of the reward aren't worth it, then again I have no idea what equipment you can buy straight away, but the demo's fun enough that they are alright bonuses for the main game.

Wait how do people you've streetpassed show up in the demo? Do they need to have played the demo too or what. I just passed someone and it did nothing. :x

Heads up to those thinking of downloading the full game from the eShop:

They need to have activated streetpass on the demo as well

Ok as someone who loves FF and JRPGs in general... this game is really freakin' cool!!!

Job system. <3

I can see myself spending many many hours on this game.

Auto-Battle is activated by pressing Y during battle.
