Walking Mookie doesn't even make sense at a holistic level (as opposed to those snippets above about him and Freeman).

Betts overall batting avg and power numbers vs LHP or RHP are almost identical at an at bat ratio comparison, so you might as well just pitch to him. Walking him to get a force out at second opportunity in exchange for loading the bases with a cold starter pitcher is weird. Freeman is historically a worse batter against LHP, but still decent. And with bases loaded, a walk would tie the game too. It forces the pitcher to throw strikes which the batter will have a better chance at clubbing to the OF. At least pitching to Betts, if he walks it's still just bases loaded.

Rodon getting raped by the Dodgers. His era at home is 3.1, 4.89 on the road. So of course the yankees with their 100 harvard and MIT nerds decided to start him on the road.

this is why i hate baseball now. i cant make sense of it. this was a sport rooted deeply in stats. now those stats are thrown out the window in favor of sabermetrics no one knows other than the MIT nerds who created flawed algorithms that have resulted in 15 years and no championships for a team thats spent almost $5 billion in payrol in that span.

And the dodgers are taking out their starting pitcher in the 7th after he gave up just one hit, and had retired the last 11 hitters.

Baseball doesnt make sense anymore. why show yankees your bullpen arms? have him pitch a full game. or at least wait for him to give up a second hit.

As for the starting pitching, yamamoto pitched an absolute gem against the yankees in the summer. He had one bad game against the Padres, but hes been great since. Jack Flaherty has been great too save for that one bad game against the Mets but he was apparently sick.
Called it.

Boone brought it a bad hitting backup catcher instead of our number 1 prospect. I am done with this fucking clown.

I'm a huge Mets fan, so I hate both teams. I can't bring myself to ever root for the Yankees though, with all the years of having to deal with their obnoxious fans. So yeah, go Dodgers or something.

Mets Fans, it should have been the rematch we all want. Instead...i dont know...before moving to tokyo i lived in LA for 20 years , loathe the dodgers and obnoxious fans who think being a dodgers fan is like being in a gang. So i hope the yankees wipe teh floor with em just so i can laugh at the obnoxious fans.

Baseball needs a salary cap badly.
Nah, on the contrary. all these baseball owners are billionares and can afford whoever they want. the yankees played the guardians who have a 110 million dollar payroll but their owner is richer than the owner of the yankees. go figure.

there is also revenue sharing and dodgers, yankees and mets regularly pay luxury tax to these other so-called poor teams but their owners simply pocket that money. literally tens of millions of dollars.

what they need is a minimum salary floor to ensure all teams are spending at least a $100 million. if you cant afford to do so then simply sell your team to another billionare and gtfo.

lastly, this is the first time these two teams are playing in the world series in 44 years. the last time was in 1981. baseball playoffs are designed to give smaller market teams a shot. the rich teams dont always win. dodgers have won just one world series in the last 35 years. yankees 1 in the last 15. mets havent won since 1986. phillies havent won since 2008.

That’s a cool story with all of that but it’s all irrelevant and/or wrong. The playoffs don’t give the smaller market teams a chance to compete, because they usually don’t make it over the big market teams who have larger payrolls. And when they do make it they rarely make it far in the playoffs let alone win it all. I can count on one hand in the last thirty years or so when a team in the bottom half payroll wise won a title. It just doesn’t happen.

And of course with a salary cap you’d have a salary floor. Baseball has been on a decline for years and it’s because a majority of the league has no real reason to watch or hope. The big market teams with ginormous payrolls are typically going to win.

Do you watch baseball at all? Smaller market teams make it to the playoffs all the time.

The Rays are there almost every year. In fact, they have gone deep in the playoffs. They've made the world series twice. in the last 15 years. Same number of times as the yankees. KC royals too.

The orioles won AL East last year while the yankees and red sox didnt even make the postseason. They were in the playoffs again this year. With a tiny payroll.

Just Last year, the AZ diamondbacks made it all the way to the world series beating teams like the dodgers and the phillies.

Brewers make the playoffs over the cubs almost every year with half the payroll. the cleveland guardians make the playoffs every year with 1/3rd of the payroll of the big three. And they can afford to spend more. In fact, the detroit tigers, kc royals and cleveland guardians all made it to the postseason. $100 million Detroit tigers knocked out the $250 million astros in just 2 days.

i can go on and on. just pull up the brackets for the last 5 years. plenty of small market teams in there beating out teams with much larger budgets.

Nah, like the rest of the world I don’t watch much anymore. Also cool those teams squeaked their way into the playoffs and more will do so now that the playoffs are expanded but they aren’t winning anything a vast majority of the time 👍

I'm a die-hard UFC and Premier League fan, but, been catching some MLB the past couple of years, and, man! What a great, relaxing game it is, I get why some people might think it's boring, like people who find soccer boring. I moved back to LA in August '23, nice to have the Dodgers in the WS and seeing people's excitement 1st hand, that grand slam a few nights ago was fucking insane, I knew I was watching something special. People went ape-shit here, fireworks, you'd think they'd won the WS. Really cool to be a part of this.

Edit: just remembered, I lived in SF during the Giant's run they had for 3-4 seasons, and Dodger fans are on another level.

Ive been watching Dodgers games this postseason and the stadium feels dead in comparison to the Guardians, Phillies, and the Yankees crowd. They do come alive when their team scores but thats everyone. The guardians series was fucking stressful because the crowd was in on every pitch. ive been there many times during the regular season and its a bunch of mellow Ohioans but something happens to them in the postseason.

its possible that the true fans have been priced out of the playoff series in LA.

I'm 20 miles east of downtown, in the LA suburbs. I'm talking about the fans out here.

Fuck Aaron Judge. As a die hard Yankees fan this fucker sucks. Hitting dingers in the regular season against garbage teams and pitchers doesn't mean shit if you suck buttermilk straight from the source in the post season.

His raw power numbers and runs scored (when prorated) are actually decent vs his regular season production.

But his batting avg drops almost 0.100 pts!

Some guys are built for the playoffs and some arent. David Price and Kershaw are solid regular season players, but once the playoffs come around, they're usually lousy

they are going to get no-hit by walker buehler. i dont want to say i called it, but i had a bad feeling about this series based on the pitching matchups. this team has no fight. it starts with the captain who folds under pressure. he's no Jeter. jeter was made captain after he won his 4th world series in 5 years. he was made captain after they got swept by the astros in the ALCS.

captain of what? this team has stuck with a bad manager because they cant handle criticism. they dont hustle and dont get benched. they blow game after game and keep their job. they hit sub 200 and keep their job. judge was on twitter mass blocking yankees fan accounts after game 2 loss. come on, how thin skinned are you and what are you doing in NY?

Freddie is killing us but we passed on him. he was cheap too. only $160 million for 6 years. but nope, lets go with rizzo. we cheaped out on yamamoto. passed on jack flaherty. and well, now we are getting embarrassed just like we did four years ago against the astro. this will be a sweep.

This team has no fight. This just might be the worst team to play in a world series. It's a funeral procession out there. They look exactly like they did in the 11-24 stretch they went through in the summer when they were literally the worst team in baseball. Judge carried them through that but with judge going MIA, we are seeing just how truly awful this team really is.

Literally the 3rd worst postseason hitting team of all time.

I've been railing against analytics poisoning this fantastic game for a while now, and this tweet perfectly encapsulates everything that's wrong with modern baseball.

It's clear that the directive from the analytics department was to take pitches based on whatever the fuck the MIT and harvard nerds found in the algorithm soup of sabermetrics.

What's also clear is that by the 5th inning, youtubers and twitter accounts like this had caught on to this trend of dodgers pitchers starting off each batter with a strike looking. but the yankees didnt. They continued taking these fast ball all the way till the 9th inning. no adjustments made. Nothing.

Even jeter and arod were like swing the fucking bat. Ive seen these guys take fastballs down the middle in fastball counts over the last 5-7 years and its been infruriating. they seem to have forgotten that Reggie Jackson hit 3 home runs off three first pitch fastballs in game 6 of the world series against the fucking dodgers at yankees stadium almost 50 years ago. everyone who grew up a yankees fan knows that fact. but these professionals dont and they have been taking fastballs strikes all throughout the series because their nerds are telling them what the algorithm is telling the nerds.

Fuck baseball. im done.

You are hitting right?
I actually hit one in 10 years of getting to hit and my first base coach had to tell me to slow down because it went over the fence as I was trying to hustle out a double

So no I never saw it leave the park which I wish I could have seen or even have it on video but nope

Did you have a sub 200 Batting Avg? I am sure the ERA made up for it.

I was sub .150 but in my defense being mainly a reliever I didn't see a lot of ABs

The ABs came in spot starts and long relief appearances which didn't happen a lot

don't know anything about baseball, but I was impressed with dodgers pitching

also yanks suck :p
When you break down the Yankees approach its pretty easy to see why they are batting as poorly as they are

Batters will tell you where they don't want you to pitch, they basically give you the diagram on how to get them out by the swings they take or don't take

not at all of them. some of them are painted on the corners.

but if you get a first pitch fastball down the middle, you better be swinging. they didnt. the dodgers analytics or coaches must have caught on to that and they kept throwing them first pitch fastballs knowing full well they wouldnt swing because of some mandate from the front office.

The Yanks are not dead yet. Even their resilience to get to the WS is commendable.

Let's wait to see how this plays out.

The worst part about watching your team lose everyday in a nationally televised game is that my youtube and twitter feeds are now full of highlights of freedie freeman hitting homeruns triggering my PTSD.

Note to algorithms, use your AI brain, if im a yankees fan, why the fuck would I want to see that homerun?

I swear AI is so dumb.

Aaron Boone logic: Let's shake up the lineup to inject some life in this team. Do we move Judge up? Nope. Do we bring in Dominguez? Nope. Do we take the best hitter in our team and move him down a spot? Yes, that will do. Let's have .100 average Jazz provide Judge protection.

I got a parlay.

Dodgers to win, Betts 2 total bases, total runs scored need 9+.

Special boost bet. $5 pays $48.

I bet for fun. Been doing it for a few years and I'm up about $100. I'm still lasting.
