I'm never going back to the dark days of being console only. 90% of my gaming happens on PC. I rememeber making the jump when I tried Mass Effect 2 and noticed it ran amazingly well, even on my shitty old PC. I then realised this same rule applies to most games and now I just use consoles for the smattering of exclusives.

Also 144hz for first person shooters feels so good with a mouse and keyboard, I can't go back to dual analogue/30fps.

Apparently 4K 144hz can't even be done on SLI 1080 Ti's so not for a couple years probably.

GFWL was such a shitty time for PC gaming. I sometimes forget that games like Dark Souls 1 used to have it implemented.

I became a PC gamer around 1995-1996. RTS games caught me good and the fact that I had major issues with PS1/N64/Saturn it was easy to make the change. I was a PC gamer only for 16 or so years after that, before I got caught in retro and started playing NES and SNES again before opting for newer consoles in 2014 again with Wii U and PS4 since becoming a father it was harder to sit in front of the computer to play games and easier to play console solo or with my kids.

I do still play on PC but not as much as I used to and only for multiplayer... which has always been the case really. Cant remember the last single player game I beat on the PC was.. probably Heroes 3 17 years ago.

I'm thinking of making the leap to PC gaming too.

My PS plus subscription expired and honest to God I don't miss it at all except for the multiplayer.

That got me thinking... I would have to spend $110-$120 dollars to purchase Destiny 2 and PS+ just to play it online and at its lowest potential (30fps console vs 60fps on PC)

The original version runs flawless on my Windows 10 rig in 21:9 (as shown in the ultra widescreen thread by me) - you really just have to install gfwl and then Bulletstorm...

Switched to PC for about two years in 2013, will still play the occasional PC-game, too. With my current set-up, however, I've become a console player again. I love it all equally, however.

Welcome to the PC gaming world, you're in for a treat.

By the way, since you got an LG 21:9 monitor and a 1080, check if you can do this trick:

Open nvidia panel, do two custom resolutions:

- 2560*1080 @ 75hz
- 3440*1440 @ 75hz

You need to enable custom resolution support, then create one. In the window were you put the custom resolution details, don't touch anything, just the pixels and the refresh rate and test it.

Basically alot of those LG monitors works natively even at 3440*1440p at Max Freesync refresh rate (75hz).
If you got a success, those two resolution will be available in games.

Basically you could get a nice resolution upgrade using merely a custom resolution.

I did this on the same monitor but 29" version, it works fine. I game almost entirely in 3440*1440@75hz now. You don't even need DSR.

If in case you get a black screen when testing don't hit any button, the screen will come back itself.

I like gaming on my pc but I have had like the exact opposite experience as far as viewing goes.

Recently getting a 4k/HDR tv and it's been my go-to gaming monitor when I can do it, even for pc games, provided my pc can handle it ok at 4k, if not then I stick to the pc monitor.

I really wish the pc monitor market was as far advanced as the tv market atm when it comes to hdr/4k, and hopefully soon hdmi 2.1 with vrr.

Yea switched in 2009.

Have a PS3 and PS2 but dont need a PS4 yet.

PC library is insane. We get most console games and we run them better too. 360 controller just work out of the box. Cheaper games. Its so good.

Built in backwards compatability.

I got both a decent custom desktop (i7 4790k, 12 GB DDR3, GTX1080, 21:9 Gsync) and a laptop (HP Omen, 17" Gsync, i7 6700, 16GB RAM, 1060GTX, ) so I can not leave PC gaming.

Though nowadays it turned out too overwhelming when compared to the 90s. I dont even play games anymore, just tweak or test. Same with emulators.

I'm revisiting last gen at 4K / 60fps / G-sync and it's quite something.

- all COD campaigns (literally all of them)
- Far Cry 2 / 3
- Assassin's Creed
- Dark Souls trilogy
- Borderlands
- lots of others

I highly recommend taking a look at older titles, OP, if you only ever experienced them at 720p / 30fps on console. Stuff like Assassin's Creed (the original) looks surprisingly good when it's given some resolution to breath in.

It's weird, I play almost all my games on PC nowadays, but I don't consider myself a PC gamer. Since I almost exclusively use a controller and play PC games on my TV, I just see it as a really flexible, powerful console.

I realized this week that my pc is not only capable of running new releases better than console counterparts, but it's now thanks to emulation that I can play Demons Souls, Breath of the Wild, Shadow of the Colossus, Wind Waker, etc, all in one place. PC's are magic. I have a library of games on my PC that no console anywhere can match.

I played on PC for a short period in the early 90's after the Amiga era had ended and before starting with consoles (SNES).

Then I became a core console gamer for the next 25 years.

Then I bought my PC 3 years ago and I agree it IS glorious. 3 screens, middle screen g-sync, 144hz. Console gaming just isn't the same anymore.

I obviously still play the Sony exclusives on consoles and Play Anywhere is used occasionally for comfy couch gaming on some MS exclusives too, but otherwise I'm definitely a core PC gamer now.

In the future when 120hz and variabel refresh rates takes off on TVs through HDMI 2.1 I think I'll play more on console than today, but until then I just refuse to play at 30fps unless I'm forced to.

I OC'd my display to 75Hz once and didn't notice any improvement, in fact, it was stuttering more. Then I found out about this test and noticed that my display was skipping every 5th frame.

Love PC gaming, use the PS4Pro only for exclusives.

Have the PC hooked up to my 4k 65" HDR TV in the main room, and a Steam Link with wireless controller connected to the network point, and 55" TV in my bedroom.

Life is good:)

It is indeed great.

The only real problem I have with it is when an OS update comes along and breaks some of your games. Stupid Windows 10 update breaking New Vegas :(

I purchased a PC last month even though i own a ps4 pro and xbox one s.
They havent been touched since. I have easily poured a couple of hundred hours in already which is ridiculous.

Pubg has been getting played the most, Dayz is next on my list after my crates sell on tbe steam marketplace ( wow thats a great system! Why havent consoles picked that up yet?)

And the price of the games, damn! I actually bought mine the day before the steam sale which was insanely lucky.

Decided to go PC+Nintendo around a year ago, and it was the best gaming decision of my life. Built a i5-6500/GTX 1060-rig that I expect to last me a good, long while (as long as the components don't break prematurely) as I don't play that many high-end titles. But even when I do I get 1080p60 in basically everything, which feels amazing.

The extra cost is definitely offset some by the free online and cheaper games, but depending on your purchasing habits it can take a while, so it's kind of a long term investment that for me has definitely been worth it so far. I don't miss Sony exclusives as I personally think they've fallen off a cliff since the PS2 and some of the PS3 era, so that made it a lot easier to jump that ship. MS exclusives are on PC nowadays, so that's great too.

Nintendo is a different story as their exclusives are IMO better than anyone else's and the USP so different, so I stay with them. The Switch being a hybrid means it covers any gaming needs when away from my PC, so it feels like I'm basically set for the next 5 years or so.

Personally I can't imagine life without one or the another, PC I need for living and many uses outside games, and consoles solely for exclusives they get. I've grown up with PCs so I don't have any massive backlog of games either but I can only imagine for people getting a PC first time in their life how overwhelming it can be.
So to answer, I never had to switch to PC and of course most of the multiplat games I play on PC too (outside few exceptions that I found just easier to set up on console), but definitely not missing out on any exclusives either.

It's funny because I made the opposite jump. My desktop has an i7, 980 Ti, and an Acer 1440p 144Hz gsync monitor and yet for the past few months, I've been playing only on my PS4 Pro, Wii U, and X1. The last game I played and beat on PC was MGS5 (brilliant game btw). I only use my pc for web browsing and occasional music production. Even though I know that graphics will always be better on PC, I've come to realize that single player games are often better on consoles. Not to mention that too many developers won't support PC versions of their games as much as the console version. For example, the PS4 version of RE7 supports VR natively while a hack must be used on the PC. Me and my sons play split-screen Minecraft on the X1 but I could never get that working on the PC. I'll probably come back to the dark side at some point but right now, I'm too busy enjoying HZD, Crash Bandicoot, and BOTW.

Console exclusives are definitely some of the best games I've ever played, beating the vast majority of games I play on PC, and for that reason I'll ALWAYS have a console. Horizon, Uncharted 4, Breath of the Wild, The Last of Us, etc. I only have a PS4 vanilla at the moment, but maybe a Pro or an XBX later this year.

That said, RE7 VR is coming to PC in January and there are always workarounds for other things like Minecraft. You can also play Vivecraft on PC and that is absolutely the best version of Minecraft and arguably the best VR game out there.

These two are very specific cases. It isn't that RE7 is better supported in console, it's that the VR version is more like a PS exclusive. Platforms have always had exclusives, nothing surprising in that regard.

PC has always had less support for split screen features, shamefully. As people usually associate pcs for bedrooms and desks, and consoles with couches and big living room, split screen are less common on pc. But that's basically the single feature that is less common in pc, from all the possible range of features.

21:9 in indeed amazing. I often "sacrifice" couch gaming due to 21:9 support. (TV/couch and monitor/desk are right next to each other)

To really get the most out of PC gaming and to keep up with current releases it IS more expensive as a front-end investment to buy a PC.

You eventually pay it back with cheaper games and piecemeal updates but the up front cost (in time and money) is brutal.

It took me about 18 years to try pc.. I went back to consoles again.. after Battlefield one and VR .. then back to handheld..

It used to be more glorious in terms of visuals. I've always been both PC and console so switching between the two works for me, and you can fill out your interests a lot better. The big, unifying game changer was Steam, and thankfully not GFWL.
