Played some more AC Shadows today, and I gotta say that I'm loving this cool effect they've added when you assassinate key targets in the world.

Oh, and I just unlocked the double assassination skill, and man it's so brutal and satisfying at times, lol.

yes! It was very emotional. I got all teary eyes which I was surprised that it got me!
I am switching between immersion and english and can't decide. I prefer Japanese but reading takes you out of it.

Also. i loved the monk+kid part. So hearwarming. And the graphics are... mind blowing? is that the right word? I feel like at least 25% of me being impressed is the hair and light reacting to it. Other 25% is the vegetation moving and animals. So good
I am so done with people speaking with an accent in games which takes place in non english speaking countries. It ruins the acting and make zero sense like what these foreigners speak english to each other?

I say go with japanese voice over. It is miles better than that dumb accented english version also keep it in mind that after like 15 hours or so ever ac game turns into a podcast game anyways.

I’m interested in playing this game. But not $70 interested

If I join Ubisoft+… can I launch the game native on Steam?

Or no? Doesn’t appear I can Join Ubi+ directly ON Steam.

Are contracts worth doing?
they are randomly generated yes, but they provide a good deal of resources, just accept them and clear them on the way to somewhere else.

Well they're not foreigners since they are in their own country lol, but anyway there's a bit of history to this for AC and in-universe is does make sense.
The animus just translates the languages to whatever the user is best at understanding, so in AC1 they all pretty much had american accents since that's what desmond spoke.

In AC2 the animus is upgraded, now providing more accurate translations, by not changing the voice of the speaker, instead now it's a proximation of the language the user understands, hence the accents, though with this new on-the-fly accuracy also came some errors, which is why untranslated words started appearing in dialogue; there's no untranslated words in AC1. This is also why Altaïr suddenly has a middle eastern accent in ACR, instead of the american one from AC1

With AC Unity it kinda reverted back to how it was with AC1, but people actually didn't like that these french people spoke perfect british accented english, syndicate of course takes place in england so it didn't have this issue, but in order to avoid the complaints from Unity, Ubi went back to the AC2 style animus for Origins till present.

I generally also don't like accents in period pieces, because they are obviously actually speaking their own language, but in the sense that we're playing this sci-fi story where a machine is translating the voice for you, I actually prefer it this way.

I didnt know there was an actual lore behind that so thanks for the explanation. Still in shadows case japanese acting is much better

Damn. So say I’m on a Steam Deck. Wanna play it. I’d need to do the “add a non Steam game” nonsense?

Which isn’t hard. But I 100% prefer native Steam

Yeah, you'll have to jump through the hoops to get Ubisoft Connect running on Steam and all that.

so powerful you, have fun, this game is also great on ps5 and xbox sx since u have 120 hz screen as well, enjoy great rt gi and incredible naoe hairs at a much improved responsive 40 fps
i'm glad they didn't neglect 40 fps modes for base consoles!
Yeah started in balanced mode, no motion blur, no CA. The best of both worlds, better performance and visual features.

40hz modes are the best thing this gen as far a game performances go.

First of all, Ubi can go and fuck themselves with their pos Ubi Connect which is not even working for me now unless I'll use VPN - WTF?! It worked just fine a day ago or so without VPN! And yes, you heard it right, Ubi Connect is still in the Steam version of the game, it's just that you don't need to install it cuz it's embedded like GFWL was on Steam in GFWL games. I can't tell you enough how much I hate this pos! Why can't you do like EA and just get rid of it on Steam altogether?:messenger_pouting: :messenger_face_steam:

Back to actual game though. I've played around ~3,5 hrs, Naoe just recovered and I can do whatever. Good lord is this game looks a-fuckin'-mazin':

k5BGzmv.png
wCFvCis.png

vOkMKAK.png

The draw distance is insane (but I've seen a few bugs related to it, which I hope will be fixed) and just the sheer complexity of any given frame is astounding. The world feels alive, the wind simulation is great, there's all sorts of things flying around, the lighting is god-like and at night it's even more impressive cuz light sources cast shadows, illuminating the surrounding area etc. Like, I've almost zero complaints about the visuals and I'm playing @1440 with DLSS Quality (77% of native) with 99% of settings at max quality except RT which is at Very High, both RTGI and reflections enabled. It's insane what DLSS4 can do with the new transformer mode, you can't even tell that you're playing at 77% of 1440p cuz the image is so sharp and stable 100% of the time and there's no ghosting (at least I haven't seen it). Moreover, it's so cool that you can choose to have all characters in the game use a hair strand feature and not just the main characters, but I'm playing at a locked 30 FPS and during some close ups it drops to 23-24FPS, so it has a massive FPS impact in combination with RTGI.

Now, about everything else. It's just mind-blowing how good Naoe's story and stuff is in comparison to the pathetic introduction of Yasuke, it's just unbelievable and you can tell right away who the real main character is. I just can't imagine myself to care about Yasuke let alone play as him more than I have to and when I don't have a choice. Moreover, Naoe's introduction and everything before she recovers and you can move on with the story, kills absolutely everything in Ghost of Tsushima in an instant. I'd say it's a bit short and probably could've used at least one more hour in the flashback to get to know the father and other people more, as well as Naoe herself before everything gone to shit, but it gets the job done and I'm sure it was made this way to let you get to the open world part and meat of the game faster. But even with all this in mind, the Ghost of Tsushima simply didn't have a chance.

The stealth is insanely good and I haven't even seen much of it cuz there's plenty of things you can't do at the start of the game even and based on the first gameplay videos from last year. Obviously I'm playing at the max difficulty for both combat and stealth cuz it's the way it meant to be played. Anyway, stealth is great and the best in the series to date. As for the combat. I need to get used to it, to deflect attacks and all that and just more time is needed to understand how it works and how to get good at it, but first impression is possitive, I'd say it's much better that in any AC game released since Origins. Can't wait to play more, but my electricity bill will be ginormous this month cuz of 3080Ti 300+ Watt usage at full load:messenger_confounded:

I had to change my MTU size on pc and steam deck to get Uniconnect to work. I changed it from the default 1500 to 1425. That should work without having to use a vpn.

The Double Tap R stick to make the HUD disappear in game play is such a nice QoL feature.

Although I'm not a big fan of attacks on the shoulder buttons, wish there was a convenient pre-set to bring them back to X and Y.

This game is gorgeus looking even on base ps5. I cant even imagine how it looks on pro or pcs with high end gpus
I'm blown away by the visuals in AC game. Can't believe myself when I type this. Tried taking some screens and it's just meh, but in game it's mind blowingly impressive looking when all the vegetation moving, leaves all over screen, everything's feeling alive. Animations pretty great too. Can't capture that in screens, need to do video or gifs at least. Quite possibly first AC where music is surprisingly very solid too. Liking the what I assume japanese tunes in there. After around 6 hours or so it's by far goty '25 to me, feel sorry for those who might get duped by haters on youtube and other places and won't give this a chance.

In my case it was goddamn fascist Putin and his cocksuckers who's experimenting with Internet providers in distant regions to one day shut everything down and block access to all Internet except in the one in Russia, same goes for Telegram etc. It's not the first time they did it and won't be the last, but it's a clear sign that they're afraid of people and they fuckin' should be cuz when the time comes...

OK I finally settled on my HUD settings for this game. This will get you a truly minimal HUD where you see nothing on the screen unless you are actively using it. Some tips when using it:

- When exploring, there is nothing constant on the screen. To find your way, you can use the Pathfinder which will still work and draw a path in the world (but the associated pop-up message will not appear).
- You have to memorize the controls for Quick Access, which is easy enough since there are only four of them
- To check the objective, just open the map. I find I don't really have to do this often enough for it to be bothersome. Unfortunately there is no way to get the objective to only appear when you use the pathfinder.
- The hardest adjustment for me was removing the aiming reticle/center dot, unfortunately there is no way to have it only appear when aiming. However, when you go to throw something, when you hold R2 and your character actually puts it in their hand, then you will get feedback from the healthbar turning red which shows if you are on target (and how much damage you will do).

This makes the game much more enjoyable for me! The "minimal" preset just wasn't minimal enough, but I didn't want to turn everything off either.

Some Series X impressions and general thoughts after the first few hours.

+ 40hz balanced mode is fantastic. Runs really well.
+ The games lighting and atmosphere look fantastic
= Gonna need to spend more time with the combat to get a full feel of it
- General character and facial animations are a bit lacking
- The English dub VO is also .. ehhh at times. (Yes I know I can switch to JP for a more authentic feel but ehhh)

Some Balanced mode pics.

Is there no way to compare items sold by vendors with what you already have equipped?

Yes there is a way to compare weapons, I don't remember the exact button but, I think it might be R3. I believe there is some prompt somewhere showing you how to do it in the sellers menu

Luipadre Luipadre

"The disappearing dlss fg is a bug with steam input, turn steam input off and dlss etc will reappear another option that people say works is to disable you gamepad until in game then plug it in or turn it on and dlss will appear"

the bug is related to the controller, turn it off before launching the game, then turn it on in the main menu, dlss will be there

Yasuke IMO breaks the game lmao.

The teppo I have right now does 1700 damage… where my highest weapon on Naoe does like 372?

He gets 6 heals, takes almost no damage, and can easily fight 5 guys at once.

I get what they were going with him and offering players two distinct play styles but he’s waaaaay busted.
Just get a kurasarigama, it breaks the combat for naoe aswell, just spam heavy charged attack and everything around you dies :lollipop_grinning_sweat:

The game need an extreme mode asap.

Can you quickswitch weapons with Naoe? I'm sure one of the tooltips said you could.

I know you tap right on the dpad to sheathe but I thought holding it could swap between tanto and katana or did I dream that?

Man this game has the best weather system I have ever seen in a videogame. I am not exaggerating, seriously, the way the weather works is absolutely incredible. I was riding a horse and all of a sudden the day became cloudy, then I started to hear a thunderstorm in the sky, birds flying away quickly and all of sudden huge heavy rain mixed with heavy lightnings.

Seriously what an incredible majestic system they made. Wow

Good eye my man! Only noticed the 3rd guy while I was editing the footage I've captured on my Pro, lol.

And yeah, that armor with the kunai perk is soo good during infiltration missions/encounters. I've unlocked the rank 2 skills and immediately dropped a bunch of mastery points into the Kunai ability tree. :messenger_sunglasses:

One thing I just found out that is really cool, when crawling, if you press circle and move the joystick to the sides, Naoe will roll to the sides very quick, this is very useful if you are being seeing by the enemy and you roll to the side and enter tall grass.

It is really the best weather system there is in gaming right now, I'll just add to that the fact that the game also has the best hair system I ever seen which reacts to all weather effects except that it does not get wet like in real life and animals don't use it at all, but the fact that all NPCs use it is already a giant plus and we'll get everything else when PS6 and the new Xbox will be released with I hope 32GBs (or at least 24) of shared memory instead of just 12 right now. It's absolutely incredible what they achieved with just 12GBs and the game looks much better on PC, but you can't undo console limitations, hense we have to wait for next-gen.

Here's a few more shots I made incl. weather, but of course they simply can't show the whole beauty of it while being static. Literally anything you can think of is being blown by the wind and flying through the air just like it should and the sun also affects hair, lights it up and going through it. It's absolutely majestic to witness, hear and well... you can almost feel it.
