Again I am going to note you are suggesting you greatly enjoy SM 2 in spite of not because of 'woke elements'. This implies it would have been better if they removed it in your opinion, while finding it enjoyable in spite of it.

Look, woke is an authorial intent to include a social issue element hard into a segment of the game. More times than not in a way that doesn't add anything nor fits with the story. It is vanity. They want to flex their politics and they want to wave a flag.

They didn't need to do that. It didn't enrich your experience. It was something you overlooked.

That isn't good core audience engagement even for an otherwise good game. It's an indulgence by one of the leads.
Very well said.

In all honestly, I wasn't sure why SM2 was being labeled as woke since I don't remember there being any conversations around the game when it launched nor do I remember seeing anything in the game but I could be forgetting (I haven't done all the side missions which could also be why). But since people have mentioned it multiple times, I used it as an example to point out that some can still enjoy those type of games.

However, with your clarification, if it is heavily politicized, then I can see it being hard to ignore but if the foundation behind it is weak (meaning poorly done) and the gameplay is still good, I think I could still enjoy it.

People that are asking him to keep the same energy when it comes to a Sony title, will not keep the same energy they have in this thread, in that thread about this future Sony title you all speak of. If you are going judge people simply on that alone, then the people you are allying yourself with are all hypocrites too lol. So stop with the finger pointing or the supposed "gotchas" because some of you will do the exact same thing and have done the exact same thing for a title not published on your beloved box.

There is no point in defending any title published by any publisher because none of us have played a part in designing it. The only thing you guys have done is "chosen" the box that game can be played on.
She is not. Do not be swayed by these Internet trolls and salty fanboys.

It is an RPG, and the game offers you a choice of making it romantic if you want to. The same choice is offered for both a guy (Avad) and a girl (Seyka).

Similar to how it is done in Assassin’s Creed, Cyberpunk 2077, or Mass Effect.

You can make her straight, lesbian, bi, or nothing.

To hell with MJ. I'm referring to the racist and homophobic crowd trying to disguise themselves as "anti-woke," crying and whining in every Spider-Man thread.

I don't know how you can look at these two quotes by Heisenberg007 Heisenberg007 and not find his stance on The Outer Worlds 'wokeness' not hypocritical. No body is allying themselves with anybody, but i would assume if you have a problem with 'woke' video games that would extend to all video games, not just video games published by MS, because clearly he doesn't mind, when a Sony game is 'woke'.

Parasite Eve has no LGBTQ elements in it. 🤔

Yes it does, it just wasn't as in your face and as overt as contemporary works are.

I have not played Saga Frontier so can't comment on it.

Try playing it, but do yourself a favour and play the original.

Fear Effect was a thoroughly mediocre game though, and its primary marketing point was "hey watch these two hot girls doing sexy things".

fe_hana_rain.jpg

I guess in that regard it's not much different than Stellar Blade.

So again, you're going after the marketing (while also attacking the game mechanics). What are your criticisms here specifically towards the writing? Were you even born when the game came out?

I'm not sure I follow this point. Matt Hansen's social media antics should not be transposed on the game without any evidence of the game being overly preachy (like Veilguard, for comparison).

As far as we know, this game's 'pandering' is just a pronoun option.

Ah, so you're drunk on the kool-aid, this is embarrassing. What do you think he means by the following then?:

Sickos.jpg I wanted so badly to make him mad with my game, and I cannot believe it actually happened. Just wait until you see the default, you said little shit.”

Wow, did a little 90's sexualised marketing hurt your sensitive soul?

You're gonna have to be a bit more specific than that. I've played Parasite Eve numerous times, there are no overt LGBTQ elements in it, unless you're talking about Eve raiding a sperm bank to impregnate herself as one, which I wouldn't.

Describe to me which part of the game made you think of it as an overt LGBTQ thing.

But there's nothing really noteworthy in the games mechanics or writing, it's not anywhere to a well written game (of that era) like MGS, Vagrant Story or the like.

Anyway, besides these two that you've given me, any other notable example that comes to your mind?

Ah, so you're drunk on the kool-aid, this is embarrassing. What do you think he means by the following then?:

I don't know what he means by that, neither do you.

None of the recent previews made any specific mention of any LGBTQ stuff being prominent in the game, there's been no "Barv" equivalent clip for this game so far, and that abomination looking character model that some stalwarts tried to pass off as the default model on social media and here was an IGN creation to show how flexible the character creator is.

I'm gonna wait to see it myself, not try to manufacture issues where none exist. 🤷‍♂️

Stellar Blade had marketing? Outside of the free shilling you and your ilk did here, of course. News to me.

That Horizon quote is extra funny because he’s full of shit. He’s trying to equate one of the many guys Aloy friend zones and flat out rejects to the woman she actually has feelings for and even has an option to kiss. No matter what you choose in the game, it’s obvious they are attracted to one another and will develop it further in the next game.

But it’s a Sony game, so he has to desperately defend it and make up nonsense about how you can make Aloy straight (you can’t). By that logic, you can make the Outer Worlds character he is obsessed with straight by just not doing her quest 🤡

Read the comics, it sheds more light on Aya's background.

Some of the interactions she has with other characters in the games will start to make more sense as a result.

Swing and miss, we were having a discussion about fear effect, keep up.

And I cut all of it out except his funny dig at Stellar Blade, which you quoted and I guess went into whiny defense mode instead of digesting the post entirely. As you said, keep up.

What he was talking about was still centered around Fear Effect, and stellar blade was only brought up as means of a more recent comparison (as if it's the only game since 2000 where the marketing has been approached similarly, but that's another discussion entirely).

Talk about lizard brain.

That ain't it chief.

1. The source of that picture is the Japanese sound track package and some art in it.
2. Extended media is not part of the game.
3. Aya's primary series wide love interest is Kyle, a decidedly hunky straight white male, who she ends up marrying by the third game.

There is no overt, or otherwise, LGBTQ friendly nods in the game(s).

Does it mean I'm shallow if I say the "enhanced" image makes me more likely to play the game? :p
Left one looks like a mutated cannibal from the Hill have eyes while the right one looks normal and realistic. Didn't know nothing about the game but thought the decent looking right image was the default from the game while the one on the left was edited to make her look ugly on purpose lol.

So please explain why that artwork exists at all then? For the fun of it?

She's bi. There are several nods to this throughout the games, it's implied, not preachy or overt.

Like i said, read the comics.

You've really gone too deep. The only thing that matters is a well-created character, who is well described, has an interesting story and is interesting in principle. If we talk about Japan, Japanese developers and even Anime creators have never had problems with characters that change gender or dress like characters of the opposite sex, or have a non-traditional orientation, a lot of characters have been created (They have, excuse me, entire subgenres of Hentai dedicated to this and everyone is happy with it). For example, everyone has already forgotten Flea from Chrono Trigger? (I hope no one will deny that it's a great game :messenger_grinning:). Or Poison from Street Fighter (Oh, how Capcom has been crazy about this character throughout history :messenger_tears_of_joy:). Make interesting characters that people might like, with an interesting story and you will be happy =)

Now the problem is that characters are created and they are absolutely uninteresting and flat, in fact, created simply to tick a box - yes, we have worked on this topic.
Well, plus of course the overall level of writing dialogues and story has collapsed to such an extent that they can’t even integrate them into the story and the world of the game normally...

Again, he made a joke about Stellar Blade c being a mediocre game propped up by tits and ass. And I posted a gif response. Not sure where you are getting lost.

Because some over worked intern drew it and his supervisor liked it?

Again, no hints at all in the game. Extended media is worthless, Disney killed decade(s) of extended media for Star Wars in a single announcement not that long ago.

Unless something's in the game or movie itself, it's all but worthless.

Not that I'm going to go around seeking the manga, this is all the wiki has to say about it:

In the Parasite Eve manga, Aya has an emotional moment with another police officer named Katharine Anderson (who may be Cathy in the game).[4] It is unclear if there are lesbian feelings involved and if Aya is bisexual (as she eventually settles with Kyle) or if it is simply an intimate moment between two friends.

You are quite literally grasping at straws here.

ps, have you read the comics yourself or saw the same wiki article on google searches to use as evidence? :messenger_grinning_sweat:

Does it mean I'm shallow if I say the "enhanced" image makes me more likely to play the game? :p

It would make you more honest at least, but it would also lead to a game where the protagonist would be completely out of style from the rest of the game

Kind of like playing GTA V with one of the many Avengers characters modded in, I suppose.

Ah, so now you're taking the stance that anything outside of the games is "worthless"? That's an interesting approach considering the comics were created in order to expand on the universe and provide more insight on the characters.

Unless something's in the game or movie itself, it's all but worthless.

My DM's are open.

But, once again, I'm gonna politely remind that extended media is in most cases not canon. And there are no overt, or even implied, hints of the things you're saying in the actual games themselves.

Ah, so now you're taking the stance that anything outside of the games is "worthless"? That's an interesting approach considering the comics were created in order to expand on the universe and provide more insight on the characters.

Once again, not part of the game and the manga in question that you're referring to is an adaptation of the game which made changes to various key elements of the game, it is not a continuation or expansion of the universe, it is an alternate retelling by someone other than the game's writers or creators:

This manga features three new characters, and several events are altered from the video game.

funny thing it will be on gamepass so we will never get real numbers, same as starfield which someone needed to boot up once and ms would account it as player
We can deduce sales by Steam's concurrent numbers, and how the game is selling on Xbox in the UK / GSD markets. Of course, it wouldn't be 100% accurate but can offer a sense of the game's success or failure.

Exactly. SM2 was enjoyable for me as well; the gameplay was top-notch. But it could have been even better had they not overtly focused on the DEI thing that they had to include. The story would have been better, more tight, and the pacing would have benefited greatly because of it.

Whaaaaaa? Since when is looking like a half decent healthy young woman suddenly being an Avenger? Has everyone so lost sight of what normal people USED to look like that it's either these masculinized caricatures or obese purple haired freaks? IIRC the lead of South is an athlete. Both pics would work "in world". But the right is certainly easier on the eyes and I think closer to the actual women doing the mo-cap and voice work. But of course they didn't want anything about the character to appeal to men so thats what we get.

It is all getting rather predictable, isn't it?
I don’t mind the early access thing, I mean they’re a business and if people want to pay a premium whatever.

The thing that gets me is they do that and then at the same time show utter contempt for their audience generating interest for the game with a trailer featuring a dark, epic fantasy they know that most would be interested in and then flip it to some fucking rainbow diversity checkbox simulator.

It’s utterly infuriating and baffling that these big developers backed by big business continue to fuck themselves and their target audience like this.

Not the point I was making with the Avenger comparison. The right image is more appealing, yes, but it doesn't look like the rest of the art the game is going for. It's basically a photo-realistic model over a veeery highly stylized game. Imagine if you threw in Aloy's model from Horizon FW into Astro bot or Kena.

If the games art was different, perhaps it would be a more suitable fit.

Fair enough. But there are definitely ways to have a stylized appearance without looking like that.

And if nothing, at least we can be sure that Obsidian's RPG will give you a lot of choice and freedom how you can tackle scenarios. I mean for fucks sake, you can outright murder the romantic lesbian love interest in the quest in front of her lover if you so choose to.

RPG fans who like being offered choices should have a blast here.

I feel like ive missed so much. I've just been delivering parcels all weekend.

Still, this avowed guy is a knob and he's ruined the game but at least we got all this.

Im still playing it. I survived spider man 2 with flags everywhere gay missions. Woke agenda out the ass. Then we see horizon with its incredible rpg elements. Such rpg greatness. With included developer melt down online.

You can't write this shit and how much these clowns expose themselves as hypocrites. Love it.

I have a wake up call, but you all already know it. A huge majority of developers in the West are like this guy.

Like, a huge amount. Studios are full of lgbtq+ employees. Either allies for those that are transitioning and such.

The whole industry needs a crash to sort this stuff out.

Studios you love are packed to the brim with this ideology at the moment and it's going to take years to sort it out.

I advise not supporting any game that's developed in the west if you truly find this stuff really important to you.
