I just recently got Karlach and she's kinda hard-carrying some of these fights right now.
The Wild Magic Barbarian Class is great.

Why is the combat so difficult on the setting for the one right above story? Makes the game not fun at all.
You can always lower it, there's no shame in it. I'm playing on explorer as well. Why is the combat so difficult on the setting for the one right above story? Makes the game not fun at all.
I will try to beat the game on medium/normal difficulty but when i hit a wall i will lower the difficulty. You can always lower it, there's no shame in it. I'm playing on explorer as well.
It varies from person to person, i myself also only died once so far. Try strategizing a bit or thinking outside the box, as well as studying your abilities and effects (and don't forget to level up, its surprisingly easy to miss the prompt). Why is the combat so difficult on the setting for the one right above story? I'm having trouble with spells too. Some seem to be limited to one use per day or per fight, which is weird when they don't do all that much damage. I run out of spells pretty quickly in fights against multiple enemies, so my wizard character isn't the super powerful magic user I was hoping for.

I recruited the Wizard character and immediately and inadvertently equipped him with medium armor, since it was the strongest I had. I was like "man, this guy has some really cool sounding spells, I can't wait to unlock them" (because they were greyed out). I spent about an hour before I happened across the tiny popup that said he couldn't cast spells because he was wearing armor he wasn't proficient in, all the while he had a staff that was doing 0-5 damage and had spent my entire time with him being garbage in a fight. If you haven't the time to learn the systems properly just stick to story mode brother, no shame in it. DND rules are not for everyone, it's a difficult system.

This game does not hold your hand - at all.
Not been hanging in the OT, I'm sure people have been made aware that they should be going into options and turning karmic dice off?
You want your balls to be stood on evenly, not in fits and starts.
Karmic dice is not just all positives. Enemies also benefit from it. It basically makes the fights quicker/deadlier.
Let's hope BG3 massive success is going to change that, we need another big RPG in 2030 from them. They deliver a masterpiece and then come with this?

That "3m" at the bottom there says the effect has a 3 meter radius of effect, with a strength save roll to take half damage. Is there any way to tell what area of effect a spell will have? I just used this one to try to finish off those damned gnoll things, and it massacred my entire weakened party instead, because they were all standing too close. I can't see anything on there that indicates massive danger to friendlies.

Was about 12 hours in before I finally realized how cooldowns work. And why sometimes I 'randomly' couldn't cast my good spells anymore. Makes perfect sense now, and makes things even more strategic. So good.
But man I wish I had chosen my Cantrips better. Fireball is weak and lame, and a piece of equipment grants it to me anyway. Have found very little use for Mage Hand too, though that's probably more about me than the ability. Will I get to choose a different/more Cantrips as I level up?
Oh yea, I did find that guy. Didn't consider just sticking with my same class but picking new cantrips. Good idea, I'll try that. There's a guy you can find to enable you to respec, not tried it myself but I'm sure that should let you rechoose your cantrips?
I thought that was just the range of the spell. I have some that say 18m but they have no splash damage. That "3m" at the bottom there says the effect has a 3 meter radius of effect, with a strength save roll to take half damage.
I'll get used to this eventually. Ten hours in and I still feel mostly clueless. The white circle on the ground when you select the spell.
That guy you should find it in the first 2-3 hours and with him you can respec your class, subclass and spells for you and your companions. The white circle on the ground when you select the spell.

When he told me about his problem, I did a bit of mind reading on him to probe further but I failed the roll and pissed him off so badly he left, permanently. Didn't want him anyway, since I already had a wizard and I didn't like his voice (sounds like Richard Ayoade), but loads of items are still marked as being suitable for Gale.Gale's particular issue is giving me problems. I thought I could just give him regular +1 items but it seems Larian is insisting it be rare and named items. I generally hoard those so I can respec and try different builds, but now I have to give it to him. Any idea how often he needs one of these items?
Just bought this on Steam. First game i've paid full price for in a while.
I've been meaning to check out an RPG like this for a long time since i never had a gaming PC back in the day. I even bought a cheap bundle a while back that had Baldurs Gate 1 and 2 in it so i could play BG2. Might as well start with BG3 now.
Probably going to go with Warlock as my main. Does Warlock, Wizard, Rogue, Cleric, Barbarian seem like a good party combo for a noob?
Ah, ok i thought it was 5. I haven't actually fired it up yet, just watched some videos.4 person groups, you named 5.
For Warlock, since you have a dialogue specialist + offensive caster with that class, You'll be in a good party (but not the only way to do it) with Lae'zel (barbarian - combat specialist), Astarian (rogue - utility), & a cleric/druid (best to pick druid when you can i think)

Just get Karlach instead of Lae'zel, and you basically have my current party. She also happens to be the most enjoyable recruitable NPC (see video a few posts above), while Lae'zel is completely insufferable.4 person groups, you named 5.

Warlock is great (that's my main as well), just don't get Pact of the Tome, it's nice on the tabletop but useless in BG3. I'm starting to get the hang of the class so feel free to ask if you need some help/advice.Probably going to go with Warlock as my main.
I killed her in the first encounter after the ship crash. Bitch was held up and in a pinch and she dared to try and give orders to Joseh? He's no simp, he demands mutual respect in a good relationship.Just get Karlach instead of Lae'zel, and you basically have my current party. Massive game filled with interwined storyline branches, deep and fun combat system, great writing and great characters. There has been a lot of comments from various sites that say how larian could produce a massive single player title without microtransactions, so I just wanna say this: Biggest weakness of this game so far is by far its character customization. While I applaud larian resist microtransactions, biggest revenue from microtransactions are people buying characters for their games and the strength of those games with heavy microtransactions are much better at what larian does worst.
Never heard of that. Are you a mono-class Paladin? Which Oath? Did it only start at level 5? (also, but that should be obvious - any mods?)Does any know how why my level 5 paladin can cast about half of my level 1 spell an infinite amount of times including heal? seems broken. They say when I kill an enemy I can cast a level 1 spell slot with out expanding a use.
Then in red it says liberated spellcasting
I enjoy role playing my great old one Warlock as well. Great in conversions, but a bit... Underwhelming in combat? I feel like my Eldritch blast is hitting way to little and if it does, the damage is but spectacular. I don't know what I'm doing wrong, really. I get by, though. Just don't feel like my character is really powerful, except for like any conversation where my high charisma wins most rolls.Warlock is great (that's my main as well), just don't get Pact of the Tome, it's nice on the tabletop but useless in BG3. Nope no mods. Just normal single class oath that heals. But I lost my oath anyway and I still have this.Never heard of that. Are you a mono-class Paladin? Which Oath? Did it only start at level 5? (also, but that should be obvious - any mods?)
