Battlefield series begins up-hill battle, feature reversions coming to next title as "valuable lessons" learned from Battlefield 2042

Despite the poor numbers that Battlefield 2042 has generated, there is a new Battlefield title in active development, and EA is providing the resources needed to bring back the franchise.

Although the next Battlefield game is in its pre-production stage, one inside source has said that "valuable lessons" have been learned following the release of Battlefield 2042.

"I think we'll be reverting a lot of the changes we made in Battlefield 2042", it was said.

It's too early to comment on specifics of the next game, but this comment could be referring to features such as the 128 player count and the specialists that have received harsh criticism since they were introduced.

Original plans for the overall series direction were to have Battlefield 2042 act as a foundation for the future, with the next Battlefield game being built upon it.

One former developer who recently left DICE following the launch of Battlefield 2042 had suggested that the next game was almost going to be like a "hero shooter," with specialists becoming mercenaries.

It does seem like this plan may have changed, though, with recent playtest and feedback sessions focusing on the class system in Battlefield 2042.

Several people invited to these sessions believe that the changes coming to the specialist system in Battlefield 2024 will tie specialists' roles to classes more closely, which is a change the community wanted before Battlefield 2042 was even released.

It's a change that is likely to come to the next Battlefield game too, with the plan to get players more invested into their characters.

Even though these changes will take time to implement into Battlefield 2042, they also give us a small insight into what the next title may bring.

My sources did confirm one thing: the next title is currently slated to have a modern/near-future setting.

DICE is obligated to release four specialists and four battle passes for Battlefield 2042, and we know that at least one map, named Exposure, will be coming to the game this summer.

A large portion of DICE has now moved on to the next title in the series (as is industry standard). However, there's still a strong and dedicated team working on Battlefield 2042 and its future content, despite concerns from the community that the game has been abandoned.

New modes, weapons, vehicles, maps, and more are still coming to Battlefield 2042 and are expected to be delivered throughout its life cycle. In addition, Ripple Effect is working hard to bring new content to Battlefield Portal soon.

Yea it's too late. They butchered the franchise.

It will be interesting to see what kinds of changes they make as a new team of devs try to wrangle a gigantic piece of shit into something resembling an actual Battlefield game.

So is BF2042 just abandoned at this point? I haven't loaded it since launch week.

Just an anecdote, but my best friend stopped playing on Steam because wait times for almost all modes are now around five minutes in the least, and if you get in it's filled with bots. He said many games start with only three or four players and then end quickly.

I mean you can look at the engagement charts. It's not pretty.

Yes, I know, "my friend says" and all - but realistically who the fuck would still have storage dedicated to this game on their console or PC? I can't verify myself because well who in the hell would would want to waste their time in such a way?

You reckon they will de-woke it? Aka, get rid of trying to protect feelings like putting a scoreboard back in, create realistic settings without forced diversity which may be out of place, etc etc.

It's funny that they keep pushing that they want to keep the specialists and will turn BF 2042 into a hybrid specialist/class design.

They still don't get it... specialists out, not hybrid, out. So I don't expect anything good coming from this a few years down the line at least.

you've learned nothing from BFV DICE. Dont believe their lies. They are just bad nowadays. All the talent left. I was stupid enough to buy 2042 but that was my last DICE game.

Also "there is a strong team working on DLCs and updates" my ass. Game already on a skeleton crew. Their first update after 3 months of nothing was a big pile of dogshit. game came out 4 months ago and got 0 new content. What a nice live service game

Brutal expectations, amirite?

DICE can suck my dick. What are you talking about, "the next one", you didn't even finish the current one, you fucking hacks!

No content updates, barely any meaningful patches, performance is still terrible, bugged up the wazoo, crazy unbalanced, poor map design, extremely lackluster weapon roster, terrible Specialists, complete removal of classes and by extension teamwork, a scoreboard being a "legacy feature" that is taking 6 months of dev time to implement after launch, no voice chat.

What the fuck are you doing? I paid 70 bucks for this shit.

But hey, don't be sad! That's just how it works out sometimes.

They promised like 4 seasons worth of content with the super deluxe 120 dollar version and they're already coming out with "Well the next one will be better we promise!"?!

For fucks sake the game has been out less than 6 months.

Well, I'm not preordering that next iteration for damn sure, lmao.

Curious to see how the "improvements" come along. I honestly think 2042 is just too far gone at this point.

So i'm guessing the people who bought the ultimate edition of 2042 just arent going to get any new content with their 1 year pass now?

I played this during one of the free weekends and it wasn't as bad as I was expecting given all the negative publicity it has received, but it for sure didn't have the magic of BF4.

The addition of operators was so asinine. Why the hell do I have to play as the old woman to be a medic? Ever since Overwatch there have been so many games needlessly doing this shit. Not every game should be a hero shooter, why they thought this was a good direction for Battlefield I cannot wrap my head around.

The good news in all this is them allegedly rethinking that direction going forward, but man it's like DICE has no idea why people even liked Battlefield in the first place.

We're mad at DICE because they said "We're going to learn from our mistakes on BF2042"?

Could they have said ANYTHING that wouldn't have been made fun of?
"We want to prove we recognize our mistakes. Full refunds for disc or digital are now available for 2042."

Just dont believe them.

So many people told them of the bugs and problems in the beta and they gave us the old "This build is several months old and are fixed in the latest build already" and was a straight lie

Sorry but don't lie directly to me then expect me to believe your next lines of crap when you call the community toxic and threaten to shut down Reddit because you don't like the feedback
