Circana November 2024: #1 Black Ops 6 #2 Madden #3 FC 25 #4 CF 25 ; PS5 #1 Units + Rev, NSW #2 Units + Rev / Switch reaches 46.6M passing PS2

So Switch outsold PS2 in US and Japan, in the two biggest markets, but how the hell PS2 is still far ahead in the total sales number?!?!

Sony just updated PS2 total sales number to 160M last month conveniently.....so now we all know that's total bullshit, more like 150M
US and Japan is the entire video game market.

Switch had massive price cuts at plenty of retailers, so despite the -3% in spending the unit sales would have seen a decent jump over last November. The 46.6m total means around 700k (45.9M after October).

*Estimates
Switch was just over 46 million after October, so sales might be a bit lower.

"PlayStation 5 Pro accounted for 19% of total PlayStation 5 units sold in the month and 28% of dollars. Launch month dollar sales of PlayStation 5 Pro were more than 50% higher than the November 2016 launch month sales of PlayStation 4 Pro, while units were 12% lower. "

How? It didn't sell out.

They made a lot.

I'll just share this post by Woopah Woopah before the thread is derailed any further:
On slide 14 of this document, Sony announces that they sold 16.5 million PS2s and PS3s between between 1 April 2012 and 31 March 2013:

https://t.co/l8zH7pcrDH

And here is a source for Sony saying that PS3 sales were down YoY during that period: https://www.vg247.com/sony-fy13-ps3-sales-down-vita-flat-gaming-division-profit-down

Therefore, there must have been at least 2.6 million PS2s shipped that fiscal year.

As it says on Sony's site, the over 155 million stat is "as of 31 March 2012". It's not the total figure.

29% drop in Xbox Series spending despite COD
8% increase in non-mobile subscriptions, driven by COD

Doesn't look like COD had any impact on Xbox Series. Not that surprising, I guess. 8% bump in subs. Would be interesting to know how much of that was upgrades to GP Ultimate or new subscribers.

That is a solid numbers for ps5 pro even if its expensive. Hopefully next year PSSR ML will be more mature, evolve and updated and more games build on ps5 pro in mind.

PS5
Nov-22: 1328K
Nov-23: 1062K
Nov-24: 1221K (Pro 232K)

Xbox Series
Nov-22: 730K
Nov-23: 584K
Nov-24: 414K

PS5 achieved YOY growth also thanks to the Pro. This puts Sony on track to meet their FY forecast which is something I didn't believe they would manage to do when they announced the Pro price in September.
Xbox had one of their worst November ever if not the worst ever.
Holy crap @ Xbox! That's barely above what a normal month should be in November! Is this worse than the OG Xbox?

Aww, poor thing, hope your favourite piece of cheap plastic will succeed

Wow that's from 3,1M sold in Nov 2017 to 1,6M in Nov 2024 for Playstation + Xbox, with PS5 losing 500k sales and Xbox a whole million :messenger_fearful:

At this point i guess Sony will want to make this gen as long as possible (late 2028 for next gen), and MS will just want to end with this generation and probably not work on a console anymore, just some Steamdeck like stuff.

Software wise i'm still surprised at EA FC numbers lmao

Huge L from Microsoft. They're in 3rd while having 3 different sku's on the market. The hubris on microsoft's end is thinking that they can sell their console at the same price at Sony. Their console needs to be $100 cheaper than Sony as their overall brand/value proposition is worse. Essentially, they're pulling an AMD(in the GPU space).
Already tried that tho. Series x at $350 and series s at $150 last year. It's just not in high demand at any price but this year there's been pretty limited price discounts for xbox. And with recent MS announcement regarding future Xbox plans there's less doubt this year on which console to choose.

I don't know what it was like in the states but in Canada Microsoft had ZERO deals

If there was ever a year to be aggressive, it was this year - ps5 pro launched, switch is losing steam, you just have a massive game on your streaming service….this is when they should have done bundles, deals, price drops etc to move more units

Instead they did nothing and the Xbox brand continues to die by a thousand cuts

True, but from a consumer perspective I don't think there has ever been a console that so desperately needed a price cut as much as Xbox Series. I think the problem is Microsoft already losing money on the thing and don't want to go further in the hole. I'm guessing they know they are never going to build an install base large enough to justify the losses.

Great numbers for PS5 which I expected remember there were 4 ps5 sku in the Amazon top 100 while none for xbox.

A blowout. (y)

Dragon Age: The Veilguard is a huge failure for BioWare and EA. Number 6 in October, Number 10 in November, and not even Top 20 YTD. Considering budget and this being the game's largest market, OUCH!

Only a 3% drop for Switch in its 7th year is actually great.

29% drop for Xbox in its 4 year not so great.

PS5 having 15% growth this year after having one of the best years in videogame history last year is amazing.

I loved the OG Xbox and the 360 and what MS did in those gens... and it's sad to see it go out like this. At least Sega left the hardware market with a great console and awesome games.

Results that were very easy to anticipate:

Xbox: (-29%) I even think that it has sold more than expected given the following.

-No notable offers.
-No promotion/marketing whatsoever.
-No XSX/S special console hardware revisions
-Compete vs a PS5 slim almost $100 cheaper and more options and bundles. Situations where PS5 slim was only $40 more expensive than 500GB XSS🙃
-Compete vs a PS5Pro launch.
-"You don't need an XBOX console" campaign
-Announcement of more first party games on PS5.

Basically, MS doesn't care if they don't sell more consoles and lose more market share. They only make sure they don't lose money per console with promotions.
Last year NOV was also zero in offers and then in December great offers were made and this was reflected in huge sales. This year December is worse than November in terms of offers.
I stopped understanding the meaning of what the leaders of MS/Xbox do and think a long time ago.

PS5: (+15% dollars) . I don't know, those really are figures that generate debate.

-PS5Pro launch month that costs ~$700. Numbers below PS4Pro (understandable for the price)
-Very good PS5 offers and promotions -Xbox Debacle

At least they can say that they are number 1 and that the hardware works healthily in a console market that not only does not grow but is even decreasing. We will have to see the coming months and how PS5Pro evolves in sales.

Switch: (-3%) Well, incredible results for a hardware that expects a replacement in a few months and that sells software by the ton.... More than healthy sales at the end of its cycle for a hardware that competes against itself.

Possible good news for MS is that COD is still topping the charts while Game Pass also got a bump. So no noticeable impact from COD being available via GP Ultimate. Ultimately, how much revenue was generated is the question.

That's only if they WANT to increase their hardware presence. Microsoft clearly doesn't think there is any benefit to taking more losses on XSX hardware. If anything this report is a good excuse for them to scale down efforts on the console space. The writing has been on the wall the last couple years.

Xbox still has a cheaper console than the PS5 Slim

Subscriptions grew 8 % in total..that includes every non-mobile subscription.. that's not a lot during COD release
8% increase for all non mobile subscription means the increase in Gamepass was much bigger than 8%. We just don't know how much bigger.

Do we know what percentage Game Pass is of total non-mobile subscriptions?

The meme of USA being the only Country in the whole world now has to be changed for this mfer, add Japan to it, little by little, at some point in the year 3000 we'll get all 190something countries represented in a map :pie_roffles:

Looks like it's pretty much over for the Xbox. Imagine going through all these acquisitions to still be outsold 3:1 domestically. How do you mess it up THAT badly?

Predictably terrible Xbox numbers, at this point no one expects better from that dying brand.

Good on Nintendo for passing the PS2 number, they really managed to position the Switch perfectly to both leverage their existing DS market and attract new consumers.

Those College Football 25 sales will pickup even more after this weekend lmao. What a monster. I haven't touched an EA sports game in years and this game sucked the majority of my play time this year.
