Any time Sony gets an L, Microsoft scrambles to surround it with 5 L's of its own.

This is why Sony gets to coast along.
It's almost an adage at this point lol.

18% down (in their biggest market) is insane.....considering the Series S is half the price, they have been giving games away for "free" all generation and Xbox One is considered the worst console unveiling of all time.

Xbox One was also down for 360, so Series X/S from the 360.....they are down massively.

Xbox (as a console) is in complete free fall.

15 years of terrible decisions coming home to roost.

That's incredible, and that's even with sales percentages going down over the months, start releasing more good games please, it's the only thing missing

GTA6 will put the PS5 well ahead of the PS4... At the end of the generation, Sony is probably looking at well over 125 million units sold. Given that the PS5 will probably get a long tail, it could potentially surpass 130 million units. If people consider the handheld as part of the PS5 family, then you're going to be looking at 180+ million units.

But for some reason people think Sony has to be in a rush to discount units when they're more than happy with the pace of sales.

The separation that online gaming discussion has compared to reality is just way too wide a chasm.

Xbox hardware division better change course fast

Writing is on the wall

- Next Xbox is a PC with gaming UI that sideloads Steam

- no hardware subsidy

- potentially made by third party manufacturers

- sold at a much higher $$$

- not intended to sell high volumes or compete with ps5 or ps6, but extend legacy Xbox owners a path out to retain legacy game collections

I know GTAVI will push sales further and more than usual considering it's the biggest game of this gen already even if it's not out yet

But Sony needs to release more actually good games and leave behind this GAAS initiative that's going nowhere while keeps burning money

That's nice. It's also millions of units behind the PS4 over all.
Shouldn't the PS5 have absorbed more of the Xbox numbers, even if the US? Where are the rest going?
Are you comparing ps4 total lifetime sales to ps5 lifetime to date sales? Impressive spin. We are just entering the 5th year of what I would say is a 12 year minimum lifecycle. Don't worry buddy we'll get to ps4 and beyond, in due time.

Impressive that PS5 is ahead of PS4 in unit sales despite the higher price point. In revenue it blows it away obviously.

Xbox S/X 18% lower in sales compared to the flop that was Xbox One is hilariously bad. Gamepass and 70 billion Activision purchase couldn't save the Xbox brand. Its dead.

Really 3 things:

1) Some people may have moved to PC

2) I think some people who are console only and would have multiple or all consoles just drop Xbox. Not really a need when their games come over to PS and that crossplay is widely adopted now

3) and this imo is the biggest one. Not really a need to upgrade. It's amazing to me the amount of people I know IRL who game pretty regularly, but are still on PS4/X1 for their CoD, fortnite and sport games itch. Wouldn't be surprised when (if?) GTA releases this year, that those numbers don't spike up tremendously

Xbox One wasn't amazing or anything but it also wasn't quite flop in the US.

The US and the UK are the only two significant markets for MS during all their console generations anyways. But I was compering the Xbox One compared to the success of Xbox 360 in the US.

Xbox 360 LTD in the US is around 46 million., and The Xbox One sales around 33 million? That's a huge drop. I call it a flop and you may call it underwhelming? same same but different.

Jim Ryan projected that the PS5 will do 108 million. I'm guessing he's closer to being right.

More than anything, Brucey, I'm "worried" about how Sony's success or lack thereof affects me by the quality of their product. I'm not going to clap for them right now. This could be a much worse result, and it isn't only by virtue of the fact that everybody is fucking up atm.

Gigantic prolems for MS if they actually proceed with their handheld thought experiment in 2026...
Agreed, but we're talking about PS.

So it's a big problem for the console that's selling just as good as last generation because the other console lost sells to other devices?
It's losing sales to other devices when the logical substitute is PS. That suggests that PS5 is lacking something.

And yes, I know that these are percentages - and 7% of the PS4 and 18% of the XBO are quite different numbers even in the US.

Sony's fault. Strike 1, 2 and 3 against PC ports.

2) I think some people who are console only and would have multiple or all consoles just drop Xbox. Not really a need when their games come over to PS and that crossplay is widely adopted now
Would be interesting to see how many people this was. I cannot imagine many. Less for gen 8 than gen 7 for sure.

We'll see. We forget that many GTA5 sales were repeats - first it was on PS3, then it was ported to PS4, then it came out on PC, then the Shark Cards economy apparently incentivizes the re-purchase of the game. THEN, it lands on the PS5.

You do understand that people owned PS4 & Xbox One right?

The lost sells that you speak of could be people just not buying a Xbox this time around.

we will know in the next Sony's Financial Results how far are between them.

But the console is much more expensive in Europa, Japan and other regions compared to what the PS4/Pro was in the same timeframe.
