Code Name S.T.E.A.M. |OT| They made Lincoln Force! Or: "Welcome to Earth!"

Picked it up on the eShop last night. Had to do a little work and then went to bed shortly after, so I'm still in the early missions covered in the tutorial areas. Hopefully get some more time with it tonight.

Anyone get a text / call from Gamestop about a preorder?

I haven't yet. Wondering about that MM pin preorder bonus...

No place like home? Like Intelligent System's home?!

OMG
CHROM
CONFIRMED FOR CODENAME STEAM?!?!

....that was the connection I was suppose to make, right?

Oh yeah, add me to the list of those who didn't get a pre-order phone call last night. I did get an email earlier this week on picking the game up, though.

my tracking update is promising. despite shipping hella late, it's still scheduled for delivery today and the item is currently at a local facility.

Do some maps have infinite enemy spawns?
I think one map in the demo did. I recall a review or two mentioned it as well, as it would make things stressful & feel like they're being "forced" to finish the stage instead of taking their time to explore or something.

Leaving soon to pick up my copy & then grab some lunch. I'll take some pics of the Majora's Mask pin if anyone wants to see it up close.

Just loaded up my digital copy. Really enjoyed the intro and ran through the first three tutorial stages. Have a n3DS, so can use the nub for the camera, but sometimes it moves a little too much and I end up having to use the buttons to make minor corrections.

Douchebag. Yes, me.

I think it's actually designed that way. Use the nub for looking around and fast direction changes, and use the buttons to fine-tune your aim.

I really like it.

Well, after one hour and thirty minutes, I beat the first Mission (take that as you will).

I think the biggest issue people will have with the length is that you sort of got to be careful with Overwatch and it seems, at least in the early part of the game, the best strategy is to wait for the enemy to draw near instead of going after them, which is the reason the levels feel so long. I was hesitant to sneak up on enemies, because that always seemed like the best way to get surrounded by enemies and killed---in the final part of the Mission, for example, at the end that happened to me, and I barely won with a sliver of Henry's health left. It...it was pretty difficult. I wonder if a lot of reviewers, who probably wanted to rush things through to review the game, had so much difficulty because they didn't want to wait around too much, and thus dived head-first into things. I'm interested in seeing more strategic-minded folks pick up this game, and see what strategies evolve to perhaps make things easier.

One thing I've been testing out is to see if shooting like the ground has the aliens react to that and move to investigate, but it seems based on my research that the aliens are more or less deaf, and the game's stealth system isn't complex enough that they react to audio cues like that.

I guess though as I progress, things might speed up when I get more equipment, characters, etc. Just got some new stuff for Henry and John to try out for Mission 2, so we'll see.

I'm having fun, and I admit I really wanna try and see this game through and show Nintendo's new IP some love.

Also, my reaction to the final character...don't look if you don't wanna know

FOUR OZ CHARACTERS?

I'm tired of this Frank Baum bias.Seriously, I hope he doesn't develop the next S.T.E.A.M.

In all seriousness, that's a little disappointing, but I guess it makes sense to have the whole group. I wonder if you get some bonus using them all together?

Maybe
all the roads will turn yellow.
:p

As for your carefulness, remember you don't have to kill all the enemies. It's literally impossible on some maps because of reinforcements. Don't go after every coin either. Remember you can always replay it with a full or different team.

I am terrified that I'm not going to get my MM pin! I worked at Gamestop for eight years. I know how employees are (not at my store!). It's the only reason I ordered from Gamestop.

Does anyone know if you can delete a digital game without deleting save data? I don't have enough space without deleting Street Fighter IV (which I hardly play) but want to keep the save data. Will deleting the game also erase the save and streetpass data?

Gamestop "check store availability" does say that stores have it in, so I think it's safe for pre-orders to go pick it up.

The MM pin on the other hand...

I think you can make a back up of a digital games save data.

Yeah, I learned that on the third map where they kept jumping off that building. Had to ditch the last Gear because I would've died if I went for it probably.

I didn't get the Turn Bonus for Mission 1 (took, like, 28 turns on map 2 for example), wish it told you what the Turn Bonus was for replays though.

Looks like the actual game data is under "Software" while the save data is under "Extra Data". There is also a "Save-Data Backup" option.

In System Settings, backup your save data for SFIV (all games, really), and you can delete the game without data loss next time you install it.

Judging by what I've played, I thought Nintendo spent all the VA money on Wil Wheaton and the other VAs were just nobodies they picked off the street, good to see they got some big name guys.

By the way, does the Japanese version have Japanese audio, or is it just using the English voices with subtitles since the game seems really aimed at the U.S.?

I'm so torn over whether I want this now or if I'll wait for a deal. An MC score of 75 isn't bad at all but not glowing either. It is an IS game though... bah!

Truth be told, I'll almost certainly buy this soon on impulse but I want to squirm about it for a little longer

In the demo it told you the turn bonus on the splash screen upon starting a map.

The Japanese version isn't out until May, like all the other ones.

I know, but I was wondering if any of the trailers for it revealed how its voiced in Japan...but then I realize I don't think I've seen ANY trailers for it for the Japanese version.

Always eye-opening to see someone actually put stock into that.
It's an easy generalization. Nothing wrong with taking it into consideration as long it's not the only thing that determines your expectations. That's as bad as disregarding critical reception altogether, imo.
