I was under the impression that those large figures were Sony purchasing the studio+IP, development costs and marketing. I don't see how your tweet denies that.
We don't have any numbers for anything which makes it easy to spread nonsense. The tweet may help some people see that.

Looks like the "It CoSt 2o0 mIlLiOn DoLlArS" people were likely wrong. Go figure....

I don't see anyone throwing budgets in any of those posts. In any case, many years, full studio, AAA production values (including high end cinematics), thousands of people in the credits (incl contractors and the like), it cost ~$200 million because every game costs ~$200 million. Games at that level are very, very expensive to make.

Are you sure it wasn't closer to 300 million?

I guess since they're refunding people who bought digitally they feel it's appropriate to remove the game from devices since players no longer own it.

I found it amusing that Sony also appears to be taking back PS Stars points they gave people. the other forum was discussing it the other day:

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?

They're just completely scrubbing its existence from the platform.

Giving it the ol' P.T treatment.

Good ole indie Concord, just 6 or so guys casually producing Marvel blockbuster quality CG short films on napkins in one of their basements for $300 and some pizza.
Because there's nothing in between a $200 million dollar game and a cheap indie game...

So, how much do you think it cost?

Between 100$, and 200,000,000$?

I mean, let's really try and break it down. How many people work there. What jobs do they do. Average salary for those jobs, and length of dev time.

That'll just cover the basic costs, and we'll go from there.

There's very little information about budgets circulating online. I just thought people claiming Concord was a $200 million dollar game looked incredibly desperate. The tweet suggests as much.

The only desperation I see in this thread is coming from a guy bending over backwards to defend a game that is such a failure it is literally dead and gone.

I hope Sony or Firewalk is paying you well for your overtime work.

You're seeing things that aren't there. Literally the definition of delusion.

I'm just calling people out for suggesting they have any idea what the games budget is. If you can't see that, seek help.

Concord was an AAA video game developed by Sony studio based in Washington state and had over 150 employees. Looking at that and the number of cinematics that were created, the marketing budget (not insubstantial considering the upcoming episode about the game on Prime), as well as purchasing the studio and the IP, it seems likely that the budget was similar to other AAA games made by Sony. Venom and Miles Morales are/were smaller AAA games and the budget for both were around $150 million. So $150 million could be about right. It really depends on how much they paid for the IP and studio of 150 employees.

This game was even gonna have a weekly cinematic story cutscene.
Sony had so much confidence in the game doing well, it was kind of insane how opposite it was:

- New IP from a new studio
- Buying out the studio just one year before launch. So the execs must had loved the alpha builds so much, just buy them out instead of a partner deal and see how it goes
- Not showing gamers gameplay and info until 3 months before launch. Only other info was a CGI trailer a year earlier
- Roadmap showing 3 seasons worth of content going to April 2025
- Weekly vignettes
- Custom Concord gamepad (got to admit it does look good)
- Selling Concord merch, including launching it after the game is shut down

Don't forget to add in SBI's consulting fee.

Bro did you see the latest Concord episode that just dropped? It’s the origin story all about how the robot vacuum cleaner got confused about his gender. I can’t wait!
The funny thing is out of all the pronouns across the 16 characters, the fungas head character is undecided, and the fishbowl helmet character is they/them. The other 14 are he/him and she/her.

Maybe I'm hard of hearing, but at the character select screen, what does the Hellboy guy say? "Fight to...... back"?

It cost $80 million to make a AAA game... Over ten years ago, on PS3. The idea that this game cost even $100 million, or any game from major publishers with high end production, is just stupid.
This game is not nearly as complex as a typical Sony SP game, if Ghosts can be made between $60-80MM than this can too.

I'm sad Concord is gone. First multiplayer game in a long while to compel me to play more than 20 mins.
I would love to see them sink their teeth into a badass single player FPS.
