Could sony release the PS6 for less than the PS5 pro?

Ps3 Launch Price- $599
Ps4 Launch Price - $399 - Pro Price $399
Ps5 Launch Price (disc drive) - $499 - PS5 Pro - $780 (disc drive)

- PS4 Pro - For performance, when considering PS4 Pro vs PS4, the PS4 Pro runs at around 1.3x the speed of the PS4 and the PS4 Pro RAM has 24% more bandwidth. This extra power is often used to improve graphical performance and effects within games, which is great for avid gamers.

- PS5 Pro - The beefier GPU is the main upgrade with Sony saying the PRO has 67% more compute units than the PS5, have memory that's 28% faster, and thus be able to render games and action 45% faster overall. This is a chunky improvement and the PS5 Pro GPU has 16.7 TFLOPS compared to the 10.28 TFLOPS of the base PS5.

With that pricing above, and AMD back in the saddle for PS6... could the PS6 launch at 120% more compute units than the PS5 and still sell it for $599 at launch (sell the system for a loss and make it back with accessories, playstation subs, and games). No shot they sell the PS6 with a disc drive, will definitely be an external add-on like the pro...

At that time, amd has quited their high end gpu market, by doubling the CUs, you could pretty much see a glimpse of what that beast is capable of doing.

Not a $700 machine by a long shot.

Entirely and completely depends on the price of the console components at the time of its release. It has also become the norm that the first revision of the console is traded at a minus to create a player base and increase demand. Therefore, the price will entirely depend on how much Sony wants to stuff the console at the time of its release. Although we have the results of research analysts who seem to say that the corridor 499$-599$ is currently the most comfortable in terms of price for the consumer. But no one is forcing Sony to adhere to this corridor.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
Probably not.

PS5 released at and above the PS4 Pro price. I think it's a safer assumption that PS6 will have 2 SKU's, and the lower end will be the same price as PS5 Pro.

There gonna have to for main commercial market. They said PS5 Pro is for enthusiasts. Would be stupid to have that same price for normal buyers.

Will come with a separate disc drive to keep the price at 399- 499. People will bitch. Media will fake uproar and FUD.

Id be surprised if they sell a PS6 digital version for more than 499, would be a slow start for them like the PS3 era in that case

they could release the same price and accept a much lower install base.

the pro is geared to enthusiasts and that's not who feeds you. That price tag outside of the US is crazy

Just make it as powerful as you can. cost doesn't matter.
Except to their shareholders and average customers. So, let's hope they don't do that!

OT: Two options again. $499 without disc drive, $599 with disc drive (or optional add-on included). 2TB storage medium, and obviously better/faster CPU, graphics card, and RAM.

Less than 599$ in 2027-2028 for a high end device won't happen.
The reality of the semiconductors business doesn't allow for that anymore.
The silicon technology is at its limits so more advanced nodes cost more and more and a single company (TSMC) ended up with a monopoly because other companies didn't want to invest at the right time and some have simply failed with their efforts like Intel.

They could try a dual skus approach with something decent (unlike Series S) at 499$ and the "real" system for enthusiasts at 699$.

People who just write that the price will be like the PRO, you guys understand. That at the start of the new generation you need to collect a player base? And the larger this base, the better? Or do we want a repeat of the PS3 fiasco at the start? The overall percentage of PS4 Pro compared to the regular version of the console was, if I remember correctly, 25% PRO against 75% Regular, the PS5 Pro will be about the same, I think 30% to 70%. That is, yes, we can launch the PS6 at the price of the PS5 Pro and pretend that 70% of the player base does not exist, and completely repeat the launch of the PS3, when they set the price in exactly the same way and simply cut off most of the players with the price of the console.

I think they'll target 699 the same as the ps5 Pro but depending if Xbox is actually providing competition they could drop as low as 599. Now way in hell will ps6 be 499 and let the scalpers make the profit.

What specs can it pack at a price lower than $699? I think the bar for that price has been set.
That depends on a number of factors. Release year/current specs at the time, current economy at the time.

$500-$600 sounds feasible and likely either way. It's only as expensive as it is now because they're is simply no console that comes close to its power and inflation is still a thing. The biggest sting for most is the cost of the drive, which is the only piece I felt they should have a reduced price for. $649 would have made more sense, but then, I'm not on their payroll so I can't call it either way.

It all depends of the manufactoring costs. Tech components has not been dropping in price as much as previous gens. So it all depends how much money they are willing to lose at launch in hardware. If they want to break even it will probably cost the same as a PS5 Pro.
I think they will aim for the 599 mark for a digital only console.

No, the PS5 Pro is Sony prepping for a most expensive console. They have no competition, so there's no need to price their hardware at a loss anymore. I imagine USD$799.99 for the PS6, disc drive sold separately.

Why 2Tb?

1Tb is enough.

PS6 isn't going to be for enthusiasts it's catering to the mass market so I don't expect more than $500-550 with one sku and hopefully compatible with the current disc drive.

I wonder if it would be chiplet design to off set cost?

CPU/GPU on TSMC A16 Node.
I/O on something like TSMC 5nm or 3nm.

I'm sure they will. It's no longer feasible to make a monolithic SoC, with only the most expensive process node.

Nah. they've already proved that a lot of folk are willing to shell out a ridiculous amount for the Pro. Watch them rip the absolute piss outta folk with the PS6 price.

Until PS6 Pro for 999$/1100 Euro.

My bet is on 600/700$ console without disc drive (but with option to buy one).
$700 in US it's $800-850 Europe, and in special lucky countries $900. And yes, that's without taking into account the drive. If you can explain to me how you want to create a player base on the next-gen start at such prices, I'll be happy to listen =)
