Demon's Souls Remake is an artistic disaster

I'll definitely check it out later. I think it's a gorgeous game. There's a few artistic missteps. The biggest crime is literally rewriting the OST.

For years I thought it was one of the best looking console games released this gen and literally one of the only things I bought on PS5 I really enjoyed, so I didn't think it was a disaster.

The remake is the best version of the game.

Well personally I loved it. I’ve played all these games, I’m glad the remake exists and people who missed out on DeS finally get to play it.

They're certainly not playing Demon's Souls with the remake.

This could all be resolved if Sony just did a minimal 4k/60fps port/remaster of the original for PS5/PC.

Sony rather pretend the original doesn't even exist, why bring that up when you have a cutting edge version with 4k models and oRcHeStRaL sOuNdTrAcK

The Demons Souls remake was incredible. It has the best implementation of the controller in any game that not named Astrobot or Returnal. Any small artistic choices that it messed up was more than made up by the fact that the game is still to this day the best looking Soulslike game even including non-Fromsoft games. It also has the best feeling gameplay in the franchise even over Sekiro due to all the gameplay improvements they made.

It singlehandedly made Bluepoint one of the best rising developers overnight.

Waiting for the Console gen when well'complain about how good Demon's Souls Remake by Bluepoint was awesome, please give us other remakes like that

Pushing the same opinion every X months don't make it a truth... just a annoyance . I won't say DS Remake is more beautiful, but it was a DAMM GOOD decision to make the world on the verge of... melting (which is true, given the narrative).

The remake is too clean-looking, they completely failed to understand how simple tricks of light and shadows are what creates that OG demons souls atmosphere. And every Dark Souls game. Its not about fidelity, but a particular aesthetic that From wanted to create.

What this Wired arricle is trying to say, buts been put behind a paywall since I last read it.

And this thread from 2020

Sony made OG Demon’s Souls, the remaster and Bloodborne.
"For my personal experience with Demon's Souls, when it was close to final I spent close to two hours playing it and after two hours I was still standing at the beginning at the game. I said, 'This is crap. This is an unbelievably bad game.' So I put it aside.
When Japan Studio got to play the near final version, they didnt get it and said it was crap. Literally.

From got no help from Sony with anything, they did it all themselves.

I actually agree with you OP. I played through it for the first time a few months ago. I've never played the original due to lack of access, but I have seen some streams/playthroughs of it since just to make my own opinion on this topic.

IMO it's pretty obvious it missed the mark with art direction. It has nothing to do with fanboyism in my case since I have no attachment to the original. Sure, the remake is technically better, but that only blinds graphic whores. Everything else was too clean and cartoony in comparison.
