Destiny 2 (PC/XB1/PS4, Sep 8) CG reveal trailer, pre-orders, gameplay debut May 18th

Also, some things I've noticed in the trailers and a bit of the art since I do know my fair share of lore.

But there are some Guardians in colored armor/garbs of the New Monarchy that seem to stand out more than the other Guardians. The main Titan guy on the artwork also looking similar to it.

With the New Monarchy being all for fighting for Earth, opposite to the other factions, I wonder if they will play a more prominent role in this game.

Eh, CG teaser for a CG "Reveal"...between you and me Bungie, I'll just call them Teaser 1 and Teaser 2. Fun stuff, but not what I was hoping to see today.

For real.

Same exact shit, just longer. What a garbage "reveal" this has been.

Bungie, you're not instilling any confidence here.

That was terrible. I love Nathan Fillion but Bungie's writing is painfully bad. Like, cringeworthy, really.

A month and a half to wait for the gameplay video, see if Bungie still has it where it counts.

Cayde has been in the game and had this characterization since launch.

Nah

Cayde was funny, but he would know what he was talking about. They just made him into deadpool for d2 apparently. When he started calling the bad guy gary, you cant help but roll your eyes and go "BOY I BET HES GONNA BREAK THE FOURTH WALL NEXT". And lo, he did.

I couldn't care less about "Dramatic, Cinematic Story and Missions with Relatable Characters"
Bungie just give us more content this time please. More raids, more missions. 1 raid per expansion is just not good enough.

Pre-ordered the LE on GameStop, debating whether or not to cancel when the CE goes up on Amazon.

Anyone know if the Amazon CE will get the prime discount?

Very dumb plan to not have even a second or two of in-game footage. You want people to drop pre-orders for a handbag, but you're waiting nearly 2 months to even show them what they're buying?

No real reason to be so guarded about your gameplay.

Bungie loves the information drip so much despite it being absolutely irritating as fuck.

Bare in mind the original artwork and live action "venus baby" trailers.

We're fine.

Everything is fine.

Just don't look at the satchel.

Actually that first 1 is a bit important.

Looking at the trailer again, I do find Cayde-6 funny. The problem is, I don't think the situation being described by Zavala is intended to be funny. He's describing the destruction of the Tower and the City, with pictures of moms and dads and kids, etc. being hurt and displaced. Then a quick cut-away to Cayde 6 laughing about shooting guardians and getting loot.

Either go serious or go full Deadpool/Guardians of the Galaxy. This mix just seems odd to me.

Dont get it either.

- No Gameplay

- 7 weeks until Gameplay

- No New Planet shown

- Enemy shown is one of the 3 bland ones from the last game

- Try-hard humor

Why should i be excited now?

Can someone tell me one aspect of this trailer why i should be or more excited for the game now?

-They have a new piece of major content that is out now for Destiny 1

-Why do they need to play every single one of their hands about what is in this game in the first week that they've begun talking about it?

-Just because there isn't a new planet shown doesn't mean there isn't a whole wealth of new content to be explored. Thinking the only thing that is sequel-worthy in terms of playspace is a new planet is nonsensical.

- Several aspects of the Cabal have been updated in this footage, and its only our first look at what the new Cabal are going to offer.

- Nothing wrong with a little humor to ground the overly-serious/mystical tone that has surrounded Destiny since its inception.

It didn't connect to ya, but to be so reductive to try and make it seem like shit is just doing a disservice to yourself.

I bet they sell out from multiple vendors as soon as it goes live. Making that kinda of coin is not my definition of real dumb.

Okay, replace dumb with borderline manipulative. Doesn't change how I feel about what is shown in this "reveal" vs. the teaser reveal which was basically the same thing -- even 1 second of gameplay would have changed my feelings.

I know this is a really stupid request, but can someone do me a solid and tweet Bungie as to why the LE is Gamestop only? I assume it's because exclusive rights bullshit, but still.

I moderately enjoyed vanilla Destiny the first go-around. I bought into the hype.

I think on this one I might wait a bit. All the expansion nonsense gives me a headache, and I figure I can get a GOTY edition or cheaper buy-in months afterwards.

Trailer was kind of underwhelming. No gameplay, generic rousing speech, and I like Nathan Fillion as much as the next guy, but Cayde was a little grating in this trailer, not gonna lie. Also the story is literally 'Cabal destroyed the tower, now we take it back"? I mean, I guess that's a more clear motivation than vanilla destiny, but it's not exactly inspiring confidence.

Yep. The "space magic" feel of the game really seems like it's being dampened. We've only got two trailers, so we'll have to wait and see, but so far, the visual tone is distinctly different.

It's a shame, because the art style was one of the redeeming qualities of Destiny 1. I mean, the concept art was so incredible:

I replaced dumb with borderline manipulative and the sentence still doesn't make sense. If people want to pre-order a game before they see gameplay they have the autonomy to do so. Especially seeing how pre-orders can be canceled before, game play will be shown before the release, and a beta will occur before the release.

Cayde has been in the game and had this characterization since launch.

I wouldn't say entirely like that. There were some glimpses of dialogue that showed that personality when you visited him in the Tower, but outside of that he was as boringly serious as the rest of the game. That one Psion strike on Mars he briefs shows that. Either way, he had little dialogue like the rest of the characters to get anything substantial out of him.

I'd say they simply turned up the notch on that personality with the Taken King and now that notch is at its fullest with this trailer.

I honestly think the editing was the worst part.
Yeah, that too. Also, whoever was doing the voice acting for the blue guy sucked, and the lines themselves were terrible. Fillion delivers, as always, but I can see now why Dinklage read his original lines the way he did.

I honestly don't have any expectations for the story/lore to be good so it doesn't bother me, I'm just here for the gameplay.

I guess it's hard to care about the story (Gaul, lol) that comes out of nowhere because D1 didn't have a story. Barely a situation, even, to build on. They could have at the very least ended D1 with a setup or bridge to D2, but I guess that's asking too much.

This should be a big issue. This announcement wasn't just positioned as Destiny 2's big reveal, but as the story reveal. And considering how much has been said about Bungie learning from the mistakes of the original Destiny's story, pronouncing this THE story reveal should have been a statement in its own.

Instead, we get one of the most limp story debuts for a blockbuster game in recent memory. It seems as limited in scope as a Destiny expansion pack. It's still a statement, that's for sure, but the opposite of what Bungie likely intended.

Didn't you post this like two times? Space magic feel is still gonna be in Destiny 2, so calm yourself with your concern trolling

Then you haven't paid any attention to the way he's been developing throughout the timeline of Destiny.

As Guardians have been venturing forth and gaining ground he's slowly been taking more liberties with his duties and expressing himself more, and it works for him as a leader (TTK opening missions). But it's the same character archetype as always.

He's also a gambler who collects gear and has stashes all over from before he was stuck with Vanguard leadership. "Loot" reference is meta, not Fourth Wall breaking.

  • Dramatic, Cinematic Story and Missions with Relatable Characters
  • New Worlds and Stunning Environments to Explore with Action, Adventure and Discoverable Rewards
  • Gameplay Activities for All Types of Players: New, Returning, Casual and Competitive
  • Competitive PvP Gameplay with New Maps and Modes
  • Customise Your Character with More Options Than Ever Before to Enhance Your Abilities

From the press release.

Nice to see Relatable Characters to return.

Peter Dinklage Bot was a really relatable character.

His voice sounded the same i felt.

Gameplay showing going the big thing because these bullet points you could have applied to the first game.

He's a robot, he probably doesn't have feelings, or at least feelings like humans do.

Can't wait. Beta will be a blast like it was last time. Want a Best Buy preorder though.
