Destiny 2 (PC/XB1/PS4, Sep 8) CG reveal trailer, pre-orders, gameplay debut May 18th

I wonder if May 19th may be Xbox Scorpio announcement show.

No love for Switch. To be expected, but if the rumors were correct that over 1000 employees are working on Destiny 2, I wondered if we would see a Switch port.

To be honest I hope not. As much as I want more fans to be able to enjoy Destiny, having it on the Switch would limit what gets put out on the other systems. It would be in a sense a repeat of Destiny with PS3/360 holding back what they can give us due to limitations.

Loved how they blew up all our stuff and showed it in the first reveal. Actually went over well with me.

I hope BB gives us the Physical disc at GCU pricing with the expansion pass. But will probably be buying both separately.

They don't want to be held back with last Gen hardware again.

Hopefully never.

What if it's finally taking back control of Rasputin to serve humanity as they desire or to prepare for the next attack from the darkness.

Isn't Rasputin still fractured and kinda crazy motherfucker? Or did RoI do something to put him back together properly?

The irony on some of these comments on Cayde, while Ikora is standing right there next to him in the trailer is not lost on me.

Well done Bungie.

So I basically ignored Destiny (as there was no PC version) so my knowledge of the first game is basically non existent.

Watched the trailer, was like "Hey, that's Nathan Fillion. I like him."

Then I heard the woman talk and I went "That totally sounds like Gina Torres."

So I looked it up and it was. That made me happy.

Does she call him Captain at any point?

Seriously if there was a Switch version we would have the same issue with Destiny 1 being held back because of last gen.

Oof.

This feels like them removing the unique and flawed (yet salvageable) tone of the game to make it more accessible to a broader audience that doesn't fuck with space magic and abstract ideas.

It's kind of bold that they are trying to shift the entire tone of this to something 'funnier', but they lost me when Nathan Fillion robot said "Also there will be a ton of loot!" which indicates to me that they are embracing that shitty meta-videogame-humor and the meme culture surrounding games. You can make a lot of good points about how bad the writing in the original Destiny was, but at least it tried to ride its own wave and sticked to it until they introduced said robot.

Still interested to see how the actual game will look like, but also bummed out that they went with what feels like the lowest common denominator/Guardians Of The Galaxy in terms of tone

So a lot of the details line up in the old /v/ leak, and it doesn't seem that far fetched now.

Potential spoilers if it ends up being true:

Of course, redguard is now Red Legion, other difference etc. But it seems pretty plausible now, especially the story line and all.

Thoughts? I like the sounds of the changes and new stuff mentioned myself. The base install being 68 GB supports the idea of more contenr, even though that could just be a lot of cutscenes and audio.

Cayde's loot line sucked. Made the whole thing fall apart for me. I can deal with him being too snarky most of the time but jesus

Edit: Exactly what Nibel said above.

I'm hoping Destiny 2 follows this type of concept art that makes a more gritty mystical world.

Yes, 100% this. They nailed it with the concept art, but never really captured the feelings evoked by that art.

Feelings of wonder and exploration and mystery. Blah.

hope they have a separate team to take care of PC patches

they haven't shown the ability to keep up with a third platform like that, particularly for a game like this--PC is going to need completely different balancing and more intense anti-cheat measures

No fucking chance. It's a Sony marketing deal and why would they put extra effort into the version that will have the smallest population by far. Spending even a minute on the Scorpio version of the game seems like a waste.

And no, fuck the Switch. Why anchor the franchise to another clunker console that will hold it back?

It blows my mind people are already lining up to preorder this thing after the debacle of a launch of the original game. Especially when nothing has been shown yet or for another 2 months.

Knowing nothing about the game, I can't believe they're doing the expansion pass again after the shady value proposition of the Destiny 1 expansions.

Why not? Look at all of the people that are already buying into it. They can get away with it because people allow it. Don't even need to show the game itself it seems.

Destiny TTK was much more light-hearted than Destiny 1 and was received much better. They're just going with what the playerbase has shown works. They would be insane not to.

Destiny 1 is the most fun I've ever had with a console game. They could have done nothing but show the logo before release and I'd be there day 1.

They discontinued last gen support with ROI because they were running into memory and preformance issues.

This game will never run on the switch. It's just not in the cards with the switches specs.

All I needed to see was the Cabal front and center. So pumped for a Cabal raid. Can't freaking wait for September 8th.

No. But there are several Strikes (the games version of Dungeons) where they're both in communication with the player and each other. They still play very well off of each other.

That's how I felt about the tone shift too, thanks for putting it into words.

Eh, CG teaser for a CG "Reveal"...between you and me Bungie, I'll just call them Teaser 1 and Teaser 2. Fun stuff, but not what I was hoping to see today.

We get immediate beta access with a preorder? Does it matter where we preorder from, I'm tryna get mine on PSN and don't know if it's up yet.

Close to zero hype from me until I see some gameplay.

I guess they're embracing the comedy side too
