Destiny 2 (PC/XB1/PS4, Sep 8) CG reveal trailer, pre-orders, gameplay debut May 18th

Wow that was... just bad. Every single thing about it from the cringe-worthy writing, the lack of everything, and the most uninspired, disappointing reveal ever.

I guess it's hard to care about the story (Gaul, lol) that comes out of nowhere because D1 didn't have a story. Barely a situation, even, to build on. They could have at the very least ended D1 with a setup or bridge to D2, but I guess that's asking too much.

WTF is wrong with them - they used to be so tight?!

This art really is laughably bad. White bro space marine front and center, white lady and black dude to the back. It's like Video Game Focus Group: The Video Game: The Poster. I'm sure the game won't feel like that, thankfully.

I wonder if the disc will just be a launcher for the game and maybe an opening portion of the game. 68gb required at launch is nuts.

From the press release.
If Bungie screws me over by not letting me remake my character's look I will type in all caps on the subreddit complaining.

The gun sizes get smaller as you go through each character.

the lack of helmets is more infuriating IMO. this poser does not make it look like a Destiny game.

This trailer felt like a fucking teaser. So we had a teaser for a teaser trailer? wow bungie

Oof.

This feels like them removing the unique and flawed (yet salvageable) tone of the game to make it more accessible to a broader audience that doesn't fuck with space magic and abstract ideas.

It's kind of bold that they are trying to shift the entire tone of this to something 'funnier', but they lost me when Nathan Fillion robot said "Also there will be a ton of loot!" which indicates to me that they are embracing that shitty meta-videogame-humor and the meme culture surrounding games. You can make a lot of good points about how bad the writing in the original Destiny was, but at least it tried to ride its own wave and sticked to it until they introduced said robot.

Still interested to see how the actual game will look like, but also bummed out that they went with what feels like the lowest common denominator/Guardians Of The Galaxy in terms of tone

Yep. The "space magic" feel of the game really seems like it's being dampened. We've only got two trailers, so we'll have to wait and see, but so far, the visual tone is distinctly different.

I wonder if May 19th may be Xbox Scorpio announcement show.

No love for Switch. To be expected, but if the rumors were correct that over 1000 employees are working on Destiny 2, I wondered if we would see a Switch port.

They didn't drop 360/PS3 to introduce another platform weaker than XB1.

Destiny TTK was much more light-hearted than Destiny 1 and was received much better. They're just going with what the playerbase has shown works. They would be insane not to.

I played TTK as well and I'd argue it was received better because it had actually great content and not because it was necessarily more light-hearted than vanilla Destiny

Cayde has been in the game and had this characterization since launch.

Isn't Rasputin still fractured and kinda crazy motherfucker? Or did RoI do something to put him back together properly?

He's still an unknown and act on his on will. RoI shared with us he attacked the Iron Lords to prevent them from getting to Siva for their own good, but he was dormant during the Fallen invasion of the vault and Guardians going in to put an end to it.

Will be pre-ordering the Limited Edition once it's up on Amazon.

Still kinda wish it came with a star chart like the first did.

EDIT: LE is Gamestop exclusive? What the shit.

It blows my mind people are already lining up to preorder this thing after the debacle of a launch of the original game. Especially when nothing has been shown yet or for another 2 months.

Even if this launch was exactly like D1 I would still buy. The gameplay, loot and community is worth it, regardless of the story and content. This game isn't a one and done for most people, it's an ongoing thing like an MMO.

All the things they learned from D1 will ensure that this launch is much better, however. Will it be perfect? No. Will there be claims of lack of content? Absolutely. That's the nature of the beast.

Sounds great. But they gotta show it before I believe it this time around.

Very dumb plan to not have even a second or two of in-game footage. You want people to drop pre-orders for a handbag, but you're waiting nearly 2 months to even show them what they're buying?

No real reason to be so guarded about your gameplay.

So a lot of the details line up in the old /v/ leak, and it doesn't seem that far fetched now.

Potential spoilers if it ends up being true:

Of course, redguard is now Red Legion, other difference etc. But it seems pretty plausible now, especially the story line and all.

Thoughts? I like the sounds of the changes and new stuff mentioned myself. The base install being 68 GB supports the idea of more contenr, even though that could just be a lot of cutscenes and audio.

hmmmm? The first story point is already false considering who was speaking in the trailer, and this doesn't look like a 20 year jump at all. Most of it seems like info you could make up after seeing the one leak from Shinobi and Kotaku, as well as that megablocks one (Although I don't know when the megablocks one happened).

that has been the tone of Destiny for the last 2 years, it's time you guys get over it.

Most of the people complaining about the "tone" I can only assume don't / haven't played Destiny in the last 2 years. Its the only explanation really.

The game will be fucking huge at launch

From Xbox listing:

Minimum 68 GB available hard drive storage space required as of September 2017.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/store/p/Destiny-2-Digital-Deluxe/BP4XX4CKFN74

68 GB, holy damn

Seems like the first game was blasted for it's (lack of) story. Maybe they're going for a more comedic tone to make up for the threadbare story a la Borderlands.

Either way, I was excited about Destiny because it was yet another game in a genre I love (the Borderlands-esque random loot shooter) but with actually decent gunplay. So I'm super excited that I'll be able to play this game on PC.... assuming it turns out to be good.

See you guy in May :)

That was actually pretty sweet, I really want to see the game in action, and most importantly how the story will play out because that sweet sweet gunplay will remain the same.

Trailer was fun, but Cayde was a bit much, and I love Cayde. Mainly, it was the loot comment. It's crossing a 4th wall for me.

Loved how they blew up all our stuff and showed it in the first reveal. Actually went over well with me.

I hope BB gives us the Physical disc at GCU pricing with the expansion pass. But will probably be buying both separately.

No bundle. :( But CGU pricing and I have $30 RZ points so I can get it all for what gamestop will charge for the base game. Won't get that cool steelbook though. :(

And maybe the game play reveal date is the BETA launch date.

We get immediate beta access with a preorder? Does it matter where we preorder from, I'm tryna get mine on PSN and don't know if it's up yet.

It's up on the UK PSN store at least, it probably doesn't matter where you pre-order from though, probably just have to jump through a few extra hoops if it's not from PSN/XBL/Steam.

Talk about a tonal departure from the serious tone of the first game. I paid way too much for vanilla Destiny and never had fun. I would be interested to see what this game ends up being a few months after launch day.

Relateable characters huh?

...

Well, there are some people I wish I could ground pound IRL.

edit: I'll have what he's having ^^^^^ I'd like to see the spoilers or get a PM.

Has anyone seen the CE be available for purchase anywhere yet? Like actually can check out with it?

People excited to buy a sequel to a game they thoroughly enjoyed previously is mind-blowing?

I bet they sell out from multiple vendors as soon as it goes live. Making that kinda of coin is not my definition of real dumb.

What a terrible trailer to have a countdown to. Basically just another teaser, zero level of hype inducing either.
