Do Not Build a PC right now!

Predicts the worst decade for Sony starting 2022
****Before tarrifs*******

These 2 guys raise up some major points that I myself was noticing. I am new to PC gaming but have a fair amount of intelligence and common sense. My first rig was completed last year in November/December for around $1100. I went with a classic Intel/Nvida build and resulted in a perfectly balanced PC build. My Rig Scoring on Time Spy is around 17,000 CPU and around 17,000 GPU for a solid mid range build. The only part I purchased used was the GPU which was like new in the box $449 shipped and this was all back in just November/December. Fast forward just a few short months. That Same build I cannot do for less than $1400. Going prices of everything before Tarriffs have been skyrocketing globally. My same GPU it is hard to find on ebay for less than $600 now along with every component has seen a 20%+ increase. Your best bet maybe just to try to score a solid Pre-build and then upgrade that. These guys have solid videos and break it down much further. Even the shitty Intel Arc cards are seeing much higher increases.

If prices have been going up globally before tariffs, the fuck you think's going to happen after tariffs?

Now's not a great time to build but later is almost certainly going to be a worse time to build (or to buy anything in general, really).

We haven't seen a time like current day. You have already seen other asian countries wanting to drop the Tarrif's down to 0%. This may lead to lower prices. I agree there will be an initial raise but once countries are cutting deals with the United States those will decrease.

Virtually all economists and major financial institutions disagree with you.

Not joking, you might wanna snatch a PS5 Pro before things get ugly.

I was thinking about it, myself. That would get me through cross-gen of ps6, at least. Not much of an upgrade from my computer, though. Maybe just save for ps6 and god knows how much that will be after a few years of this bullshit.

What's your current rig?

I panic upgraded the day after the election. I had a friend go out and buy a 9070XT on launch day. He told me that Microcenter literally told him that MSRP was just for launch day and prices would be going up tomorrow.

I'm just glad I could help the man dodge a financial bullet.

5600/6800. All the parts are in nice condition. It will play games for many years to come. Thinking about aaa in the early ps6 days and the shitty pc ports that may come, though.
You should be golden then. That's a solid balanced build.

my pc is about to blow up, in australia everything is always expensive anyway (and constantly going up), so if i can find some decent sales around mid year for a new system it will be my last pc for a long long time

Yeah, any time there is a trade war it's a bad time to make big purchases.

I would say even after things end, and if prices drop on PC stuff...high-end components are still a total rip-off with the worst diminished returns than ever. Whatever newer budget GPU that has at least 12gb of VRAM is still the better value, including the intel arc cards.

Best thing I have going for me is I play a very limited amount of aaa stuff. Even NG2B was pretty heavy to run, though. So there may be more aa games with aaa requirements. Other thing I have going is that I don't get that bugged turning down settings. And i can even live with the nuclear option - 30fps for a number of genres.

But I think you're right. Base ps5 will also have to make it through ps6 cross gen, so my pc at ~%50 more performance should get me through if I want to sit on it. That was actually the plan. I bought this gpu when the 6800's bottomed out at $350 in case of this sort of thing. I had been planning to wait for rdna4.

Used market. Just got a 5700x3d and a 4tb SSD. I'm set for years.

Bought a MacBook pro off Best Buy yesterday for $1400 it was $500 off hopefully it's powerful enough to play all the current pc games now I just need a switch 2 hope Japan cuts a deal with trump asap so Nintendo can let us preorder and I'm covered for the next gen games

I guess this thread is just about USA, but i must say that after some terrible months, there are some good premounted PC offers with a 5070 for 1100-1200€.

Can't say the same for PC's with 16GB graphic cards yet, AMD ones are still overpriced versus it's MSRP, and same goes for the 5070ti, things should get better in 1-2 months for these i guess.

I was planning on building a new PC last year for around this time. Now I think I must wait it out for another whole year probably.

I wanted a 5090, couldn't snag one at launch. Now they have been in stock, but I'm not buying over MSRP. I saw 9800x3d was in stock, I haven't jumped on that either. I could probably get that and the MB and plug my geezer 3090 in until a worthy GPU is available. I just don't want a half machine. I want a whole new setup. Then by the time prices settle and some available GPU might be a worthwhile upgrade to my 3090, there's going to be a new CPU king in town. So why half ass it now. I want the "best of the best of the best, SIR!"

Mac and most games do not mix. The M chips are getting better but struggle with mid range games

I am planning on selling my 4090 for a massive premium soon since the prices are going up and I have another system with a 4080 in it that suits me perfectly fine.
Seriously, a couple PC discords I'm in have me seriously considering selling my 4080 when I see what people are buying for. I could deal with an overpriced 5070ti if people are crazy enough to buy a founders for the price of a 4090

I honestly think you should buy as soon as you can, as someone who lives in a country that also tarifs all imports and recently got another tarif increase like 2 months ago, trust me, prices aren't going down anytime soon.Buy now if you don't want to regret anything later.

lol that's not how it'll work

Prices will skyrocket soon

I bought a 5070 Ti at near MSRP yesterday. There's stock. Do not look at used market peoples are still trying to fleece as if there's scarcity. AMD/Nvidia cards are there. In Canada at least I can drive easy 20 mins around and they all have stock.

If you had plans to build, it's now. In a few months these current prices will look like bargains.
