How period correct are the characters during story mode?

Is it like BT3 where Vegeta's armor changes to match the saga (e.g No shoulder pads on Namek, armor changing color) and Goku having no undershirt for Raditz battle, Gi symbol changing through the sagas, Super Saiyan hair color and softness etc?

Burst Limit and some of the later ones never bothered with these details which pissed me off.

Yes to all. For example, Goku Super Saiyan hair colour and style for the Namek Saga is pretty much similar like the anime to manga, and a bit different to the most usually known version afterwards. Oh, and has that epic transformation animation like the anime.

Well except for the SS hair softness, which moves quite a bit compared to other dragon ball games.

Gohan sucks, eternal failure, only good things he's ever done is hurting raditz and fighting freeza.
ultimate jobberhan couldn't even catch a damn earring, watch him fumble beast the next time we see it.

You deserve a father and son kamehameha in the ass for spewing such edgy bullshit.
Gohan is a great character and also one of the very few second generation sayans who gets laid.

Thanks it's these little things I was holding out to check.
Will jump in on PC now, hopefully we'll get a Kenji Yamamoto mod.

The game looks great, spend an hour+ in training mode before doing anything just to get a feel for things, and I think I still prefer the movement and combo paths of xenoverse 2, but everything else is great, honestly this just makes me want xenoverse 3 with these graphics lol.
About to head into story mode, but man kelfa is amazing in this game, her looks, voice, animations are all done super well, she even feels super powerful, she's on the shortlist for main.

Edit:
the game also hit a

On steam, that's pretty wild.

Loving the gameplay so far but man are the cutscenes crap. Some ps2, 480i compressed to oblivion videos.

Also the main menu is horrible. Shouldn’t change so much while scrolling around. Let me pick an option then have goku fly over there.

Hats off to you guys, I love DragonBall, but I cannot play another game running through the Saiyan Saga.

Legends has always been the benchmark for me, BT3 was great and Fighter Z.

The story is very condensed and not told in the typical way is my understanding (slide shows and what if branching time lines instead)

its just me or combat feels a little clunk ? it feels like everything has a delay to it .

if you play DBZ to just enjoy the story for the 10000x go play Kakarot, its way better, if you play for combat this is the one, but as i said above, combat felt really clunk imo.

Anyone get fatigue from hearing AND playing the same stories over and over again?

I remember Toonami with it's endless Z cycles ending at the end of the Frieza saga and starting all over again. Can't recall when they finally got to the Boo saga.

finished the what if in goku's story, pretty cool. Some of these fights are really tough though, the timing for counters and vanishes is on some just frame level shit, had to cheese some of the ginyu force fight because the AI has no chill, they have no problem perfect blocking high or lows because of course they aren't actually reacting just input reading; I feel xenoverse does a better job in this aspect, the fighting there actually feels like fighting, instead of this dance of inputs you have to make to not get dunked on by the AI. I don't remember BT3 being this unnecessarily hard or strict on frame timings, there's really no reason why it should be this hard to get out of combos.

Well the story mode also has some "what if" stories (aside, of course, from the original). And they don't take too long of your time to complete.

And another thing. Many people thought and think this game is the same old "spam buttons to win". Far from it. It takes time to master the gameplay and become better.

I don't see an upgrade path to the Ultimate Edition on PSN and physical copies are sold out. If you own the base Edition, do you see an upgrade path on PSN? How much is it?

Completed the tutorial but damn, combat system is complex to get used too. The last time I seriously invested time on a fighting game was on Budokai 3.

The QTE are awkward as fuck. For example the grapple one I have no idea what I'm doing.

I would assume holding R2 to boost and smashing square, but the meter barely moves. It's really weird in telling the player who is actually winning the QTE.

Usually you hold down the face button.

Holding down the button doesn't make much sense, considering if this transitions into online and both players hold the button, it's a draw.

I'm certainly I'm missing something, but they do a lousy job in explaining the minigames in the QTE.

First hours are a mixed bag for me if I'm being honest. I'm past my prime in fighting games and I feel the game is difficult to play, doesn't give me a friendly beginners vibe to be honest.

I've completed the tutorial and well transitioning everything I learn into battle is hard.

I feel that there is some weird input delay going on here.

I know I'll get better at it if I put my time on it though.

There are things I like about the game, but others feel they cut a few corners - the story mode for example looks really rough in my eyes if you exclude the fighting.

Man I'm tempted. The last DB games I put time into was the raging blast games. One of my buddies at work got a PS5 just for this game. He's addicted to that one DB mobil game and drops hundreds a month on it so hopefully this game will gsave him some money lol.

Story mode is a bummer. I know were doing the same old saga's over and over again but its presented really cheap. And how the f do the qte's work

yup. i knew I wouldn't like this game. AI is so cheap. Monkey Vegeta killed me like 4 times. fuck this game. It's a good thing i didn't buy it and just played with my friend's account to try it. what a pos .FighterZ is a better game than this by 10k miles.

wtf charge for super Kamehameha god knows how long just for him to side step and dodge. fu bish -_- ai

Skill issue

Didn't have a problem with oozaru vegeta, destroyed him first try in both the what if and regular paths, remember that you have solar flare, you can basically just charge up, solar flare him and then hit him with an unblockable ultimate attack, or if you're not in sparking you can just charge your kamehameha right in his face.
If you hit someone with an ultimate attack they lose track of you, so you can basically just charge up again while he's looking for you and just blast him again with an ultimate.
There's fights later that are MUCH harder than this one.

Sparking mode makes the game far easier in SP. AI has difficulty blocking punches when in that mode, including the giant ape. You can cut through about two bars of health before it expires and with them taking all those hits it makes it easier to reactivate Sparking again.

Standard difficulty AI seems to have quite a bit of problem dealing with perception and super perception

It's a good idea to actually learn these mechanics and super counter as well, I feel these 3 the key to actually being able to fight back properly. Super counter is hard, but it can get you out of any combo, even from behind, so def practice it.

Anybody know if there's a support line anywhere? People have been rage quitting on me but for some reason it sent ME a message about disconnecting early

Why did they skimp so much on the story mode? Not only is the narrator missing for 90% of the story, plenty of iconic moments are not even shown.

Freeze throwing a destructo disc and hitting himself
Goku becoming super sayjin when fighting freeza
Gohan ss2 transition

I like the story mode but its really kinda lame. So many moments glossed over.

I guess they went in on the story mode like: let's go crazy on the what if scenarios, if people want to experience the main narrative, there's this game called DBZ: Kakarot.

I kind of get, for this game what needs to shine is the core gameplay.

But still, has a huge DB fan, I can't shake the feeling that story mode looks rather cheap. There are multiple nostalgia moments absent that fans don't mind to revisit at all.
