DrUckmann is essentially a next-gen Kojima

While I do think that Kojima is very much up his own ass, he, at the very least, goes all in with his shtick of doing weird and obtuse things with his writing and gameplay. And he's pretty good at that, imho. His games are, at the very least, interesting.
So far, Druckmann has directed The Last of Us Part 1, which is a good game. But it didn't do anything interesting. It combined concepts (Walking Dead, zombie apocalypse setting) and gameplay (A slower-paced Uncharted) that was already present (and polished!) in a solid way. And that can already be enough to make something good. And then he forgot how to write and direct while making Last of Us Part II. That game was not only amateurishly executed from a writing and story-telling point of view, it was also less interesting as a video game. I particularly found the encounter design, both in how the enemies act and react and how the levels/environments are designed as combat spaces, significantly worse than in Part 1. I also found the gimmick he was attempting with Part II, the presentation and utilization of gore to generate "shock", pretty on the nose and actually stupid. Again, they also did this far better in Part I.

1. This topic is essentially retarded.

2. While it's amusing to see the usual jibbering apes get excited to throw their feces anytime Kojima is mentioned somewhere on GAF the fact is this: you don't need to like Kojima or his games but if you are incapable of acknowledging his astronomical impact on the medium, his creativity, his unique vision and his overall drive to push the medium forward then you have absolutely no business talking about videogames in any capacity, period. Your opinion is worth less than dog shit baking under the summer sun. To take it further, I doubt any of these people have actually played a Kojima game, safely ignore everything they have to say about, well, anything.

3. Unlike many I don't have a hate boner for Cuckman. TLoU2 was never going to be the masterpiece that TLoU was but it was still a kick-ass game despite the shoehorning in of a butch broad meant to fulfill Neil's pegging fantasies. UC4 was incredible too but Neil's overall contribution is much more murky there with the ouster of Hennig and collaboration with Straley. Having said all that, comparing him to Kojima is so mind-numbingly stupid that it almost defies belief.

In conclusion GAF, keep GAFing, the entertainment is endless and I truly appreciate it.

Lol what, Druckmann doesn't even deserve to be the old, dirty chewing gum on Kojima's shoe sole.

After Amy Hennig was bullied out of the company by this talentless piece of nothing, ND became a worse shithole that EA and Ubi.

Absolutely Cozy
- Make cinematic art-house games that end up being incredibly influential.
In what way has Druckmann been influential? I can see that with Naughty Dog as a whole, but his getting into his leadership role there is relatively new?

There is nothing revolutionary or compelling about Druckmanns games. You could miss TLOU and not miss a damn thing from gaming.

Metal Gear Solid and it's sequels however are legendary in every sense of the world. Even Death Stranding has such a compelling narrative and world.
As a narrative TLoU is great, but once again I think that ND has lost their way when it comes to interactiveness. They try to smear gorgeous animation detail to hide from the fact that the gameplay is actually very surface-level and paltry.

Did he really bully her out? It sound crazy that Druckmann would be able to touch the director and writer of Uncharted 1 - 3 as well as Soul Reaver 1 and 2.

I've never played Last of Us, other than good story telling it's gameplay mechanics were far too basic and boring for my liking.

On the other hand, MGSV which is not even considered Kojima's best work is miles ahead of anything ND have produced in regards to gameplay design, mechanics and combat and it's a gold standard in open world stealth mechanics, it's aged incredibly well against most other open world games too in my opinion. In the storytelling aspect, it's very cinematic and has a lot of depth and emotion.

I think there's no comparison here, Kojima is leagues ahead.

According to Hennig, the primary reason why she left, were "creative differences". And after she left, ND only released games with Druckmann induced fetishes of muscular women and woke/DEI garbage. So it's pretty clear what those differences were and who was pushing Hennig out of the company. Uncharted 4 was the last good ND game, and it will stay that way until Druckmann disappears into the void.

Referring to tlou1, he wrote and co-directed. Hence why it's questionable if that hit is even 'his'. To the average gamer who even knows who Druckmann is, they probably don't know who if anyone else worked on tlou1, as far as they'd be concerned it is 'his' game.
Ok thats a fair point

Neil Druckmann, like it or not, has proven himself as a good game director. He can produce results and top of the line technical marvels. This is objective regardless of what you think about his games. And yes, he's had a big impact on the "cinematic adventure game". This is also factual.

Said this, putting him in the same sentence with Kojima is just dumb. I won't elaborate because there's no need. It's just plain stupid.

People love to hate on others.
Both make stellar games with huge followings- clearly their games sell, clearly there is appeal beyond this forum.

Kojima- Thought outside the box in terms of gameplay mechanics and story telling.

MGS1- In order to defeat this boss. Change the controller ports.
Boss will also read your saves to weird you out.
Story makes you question authority.

MGS2- All trailers and promos made you belive you would be playing as Snake....
Story makes you question everything in reality. Information, history and the nature of the human self.

MGS3- All the enemies you have killed will show up later in boss fight.
One if not the best female wrighten charcter in gaming history.
Question authority to be true to yourself. Question yourself.

Druckmann-

TLOU2- Revenge is bad

Though i belive that Kojima had a great deal of help in his story telling as it seems less focused at MGS4 and onwards. He still thought about gameplay above all else for all his games.
TLOU1 is a great game in it's own right. One of my favs.
TLOU2 is the same but with fart huffing.

They both:

- Lead an avant-garde gaming studio.

- Make cinematic art-house games that end up being incredibly influential.

- Push what games can do in terms of narrative/storytelling.

- Are controversial, and never boring.

- Have strong Hollywood ties.

- Have incredible taste in music and movies.

- Have stage presence (no homo).

- Self-insert themselves in their games.

- Made a game which was ultra polarizing because half of it makes you play as an unexpected new character (MGS2/Part II).

Blew my mind once I realized this.
Ill Allow It GIF

Disagree. Druckmann's games have a much broader appeal. Death Stranding is not a game for everyone. Last of Us and Uncharted are games for almost anyone.

I can't think of any director who is more up his own ass than Kojima. He surely jerks off to himself in the mirror.

Yea but Kojima was good once.

TLOU2 was embarrassing. It's childlike. It's like Oz on HBO. A shock value affair designed to draw eyes due to the level it is willing to arbitrarily subvert your expectations. Comparing it to a show like Sopranos is like comparing a child's drawing to a Rembrandt. In this scenario if TLOU1 is The Sopranos, TLOU2 is Oz. People just aren't smart enough, on average, to differentiate between the two pieces of content. To them, it's all one thing. Problem isn't that the 2nd game exists, it is that the shitty flavor of 2nd game was so bad it infected and ruined the first one. What a bucket of dog shit.

Think I'm wrong? Such a high level of fart huffing won't be allowed in the show. Watch. They will NOT kill Pedro off immediately in season 2, they will split season 2 into 2 parts and keep him around till the end of the first part, then they will do heavy flashbacks. TV watchers would just turn it off otherwise. Nobody will accept such bullshit except for captive audience gamers who are too quality narrative poor to be choosers. I said it for years before part 2 came out. Don't do it. You will ruin the first game. The first game actually does a great job of subverting your expectations. Who expected them to let us have a win over mankind by making a selfish decision. Such an ending even back then was controversial and against "the message."

The 2nd game is entirely predictable and "corrects" the overall theme of both games to now become "society is more important than you are and fuck you if you don't sacrifice for others." That wasn't the message of the first game. The message of the first game is "fuck around and find out." A much more masculine message.

So Josef Fares is the next gen Kojima?

You seem to enjoy visualizing this... ;)
I mean these guys are really hot, right? But for real, these guys love themselves so much. You don't need to be a psychologist to easily notice.

Btw. Did you go through my post history or did you remember my earlier post?

Other than both of them being into "cinematic" games I don't really see much of a comparison. And even the approach of how they do "cinematic" is different.
Druckman is more about grounded characters and writing, Kojima is all about crazy concepts and scenarios with weird or over the top characters. Kojima is also way more inventive in terms of game design and mechanics while Druckman is more about taking an established formula and polishing it

I hate his impact on "cinematic adventure games" though.
His biggest influence on AAA gaming and Sony first party are these super long and boring gameplay "story" sequences where characters walk and talk for 30-40 minutes as the player barely does anything. His influence on gaming is how we end up with a God of War game where at times you spend an hour walking around as Atreus as he talks and picks flowers with Angrboda
