Like I said, a minor graphics nitpick is the “infinite” sky lighting on characters which is different than the rest of the environment; it’s what makes the lighting unconvincing, giving this look of overcast weather.

As for the penultimate scene:
Joshua’s script was far too lengthy… should’ve been much, much shorter.

Final form Ultima reminds me of Ultimecia + The Emperor + Bhunivelze. Well, not Ultima Risen (though it’s clear they were inspired by VII for this form and the setting which the battle takes place).

And they made him a Lord of Cinder. Not for virtue, but for might. Such is a lord, I suppose. But here I ask. Do we have a sodding chance?
Me and misses have been 100%ing the game so far and we got to the point-of-no-return in the game only to be BOMBARDED with like 15 green side quests.

MMMmmm, my favorite pacing! Love it!

Yeah it's the finisher, so as i suspected the trick is to let go one of those finisher moves and while they do their job i continue to attack with my other eikons skills to maximize damage.

doesn't that make the fights too short? :lollipop_grinning_sweat:

No it's triangle when you first get the Eikon, it's an insane spell

I recommend mastering it and equipping it on another Eikon for the reason you mentioned above, the circle for it doesn't feel good

I...don't follow you.

Are you talking about the big attack that cost a lot of skill points or the grab\rush ramuh equivalent skill that i have on circle? it's not a matter of button positioning, the skill just feels bad to use and frankly boring.

Finisher spells are good depending on the spell and when you use it. For example, Ramuh's Finisher is a very strong single target damage attack. Use it during the end of a stagger after you get the damage multiplier as high as it goes. Personally I prefer to use something like Pheonix as it gives me some minor healing (which is great in NG+) and helps build up that multiplier while pausing the stagger meter. Follow up with Garuda's blades and then use my most powerful single target abilities.

Nah, I switched it out after too many mistakes when trying to Phoenix shift. Titan & Garuada's abilities make for better crowd control imo.
When you say switched out do you mean that you mastered the grab or the shift and switched that with the ramuh one so when you use ramuh you still have the grab or the shift? right?

Sorry, i didn't switched any skill yet because i'm still exploring the combat and i don't want to exclude any skill for now, so i don't know exactly how it work, just the theory.

Its not the finisher move :)

I use the finisher after Lightning Rod ( Parafulmine ? )

Just beat Typhoon, and yea its finally starting to grip me, especially the story, the shit the Bearers get in terms of racism is unreal and heartbreaking, you need to play the sidequests DO NOT skip them

Still quite odd that the performance mode works nearly flawless during combat, but outside of that it runs horrid. Hoping there is a fix planned for this.

Mmm. it doens't look like the attack where he rotate the spear in the air to juggle enemies or the other one where he hit in a circle around him, the other 2 moves are the finisher and the other that i can't remember, so it must be that one.

I'm gonna start playing in about 1 hour so i'm gonna check by myself.

A quick question - between this and Hogwarts Legacy, which game would you rather play for the first time? I have two weeks off coming now and after playing the demo of FF16 for a little bit, it seems like it would be a perfect game to sink my teeth into. However, I was also thinking about finally playing Hogwarts too, so now I'm not sure.

A game that I would generally appreciate more is the one which has a more captivating story and characters, as well as very immersive and lore-rich world, so please take that into consideration when making a suggestion.

No my man it's the one that drop a ball of lightning on the field, you have it when you get the Eikon so it's not the ultimate or whatever no need to spend points for it

I tried the game via remote play and I still experience the high pitched squeaks from Jill being in the party. I might need to put the game down until it’s patched. It literally hurts my ears.

This really sucks because the combat was finally gelling for me and the story finally picked up and I was experiencing some truly epic boss fights.

It’s just that noise really hurts my ears. In case others don’t know what I’m talking about, here’s a Reddit thread about it:

its jill just got to that part as well

I meant that I just stop using Ramuh outright, mostly out of frustration with how much it stops the flow.

Not really. I liked the first two movies and I generally enjoy the fantasy genre with imaginative concepts like Harry Potter, but beyond that I don't really care about the franchise as a whole. It's just that everyone was raving so much about that game when it came out that I figured I might as well give it a try.

The game lose a lot if you are not an harry potter fan.

So played another 5 hour or so yesterday did a mix of MSQ and side quest plus some other small things.

Small things about jill: i noticed that noise that everyone keeps hearing when jill is in the party is from jill her dress or what she wears has a chain mail belt, 2 bows on her shirt part, her rapier along with 2 other belts and everything else causes that grinding noise I guess it's bugged or not but going by reddit post its not her character teleporting around its from the SWX tied to her dress if you crank up the volume more even clive has a issue were it sounds hes sliding on rubber when he wears his armor outfit before he gets his main one really weird design choice and I have no idea how this got past QA. Also jills idel animation is ripped straight from 2B from Nier and tifa from FF7R there is almost no difference if I can find a video of it ill link it im surprised they did that but this game also rips other stuff and just shoves it in here as well. NO idea why jill cant be played or commanded especailly just going off of what iv seen of her movelist so far to make her a playable character wouldnt be hard I imagine once this comes to PC there will be a playable mod before the week is out.

Side quest/crafting/Game play changes: These quests are terrible im not going to spoil much but even story wise/world building wise they make no sense these quest give you nothing that is worth while so far just more junk that you can sell I almost cant believe they spent 0 budget on the side quest in this game FF15 had a whole crazy side boss section as a side quest that gives you some pretty crazy stuff and even on the lesser side or budget jrpgs the Trails of games almost always give you stuff that is worth while when you help out other people they even straight up ripped a side quest from FF14 ARR the only difference is that the combat encounter can be ended in 2 mins instead of 5-6 and then you have to spawn back to town. At this point the crafting makes no sense from just doing the MSQ I got Purple Rare level stuff that is leagues above what I can craft even with rare items? I did craft a sword that was from the garuda boss but the game doesn't have an active inventory chest so the sword got deleted some how. DT or devil trigger in this game is super generous compared to literally any other character action game even in GOWR and 2018 you have to literally pump stats into Rage mode to be able to use it as frequently as you like im surprised that it even works like this its pretty much like a EX gauge in a fighting game and constantly recharges without you doing anything.

Odin skills trivialise the game lmao at least any mobs gets done so dirty.. it's so good to clean the board with a Zantetsuken

Ok the game doesnt really do a good job of explaining but there more ways to launch besides the stuff you mentioned lol.

Torgal, Aerial burning strike, charged shot can all launch too and you can even chain them together to get some pretty ridiculous heights.
yea I forgot to mention torgal I should of said i wish there was a way to launch enimes that was like in DMC5 where its just R1,back,Triangle and not have it tied to assist character, abilities or anything like that. There are some crazy Marvel vs capcom style ground bounces you can do if you have the right abilities equipped

I enjoyed Blitzball too and Wakka's ultimate weapon is so powerful you want to do it :messenger_beaming:

It was one of my biggest gripe when Yoshida said there won't be minigames in XVI, really feels like its part of the series
There's a lot of things absent in this game that were a recurrent part of the mainline Final fantasy entries. The thing this game has mostly got in common with Final fantasy is the roman numeral next to the title.

Some parts make me question if the guys behind it detest the series for what it is or intentionally went against almost everything that it stood for.

Strongly disagree here especially now that I am at the end

I mean this should be obvious to anyone that has been playing the game a lot but certain abilities that require "activation" have iframes.
You can negate even the largest attacks by timing those abilities correctly. In particular Ifrit's fireball shield ability and Bahamut's "satellite" thing ability (sorry I cant remember the actual names).

So having played the game twice now, the one thing I feel like doesn't work well are the time skips...

Why didn't Joshua ever seek out Clive at all?
So I guess the few early hallucinations of hooded Joshua were just Ultima fucking about with Clive's head? How did Ultima even decide to use the older body visage of Joshua then? Why at all?
How did Clive NOT hook up with Jill way earlier during the five years we skipped. She was mad thirsty for his ass...

Mid\late game there's a small handful of quests that have options like take one person or another, kill or let someone go. It's honestly a bit weird this was included considering there's literally only 3 times it happens and has zero impact outside of a few minor dialog differences.
I really wanted there to be SOMETHING more from the dialog when I'm asked to pick Jill or the other chick and not picking Jill. Like she didn't even care at all.
