Flat Earthers Are Going To Antarctica To Prove Earth is Flat!

The trip is happening in mid December. They'll observe the 24-hour Sun, if observed, they'll either believe the earth is round or come up with more conspiracies on how the sun is being faked by the governments.

The trip is being funded by Will Duffy, a pastor in Colorado.

Interview with Will Duffy

Summary of the events and trip (long video)

The reason why the 24 hour Sun is important is due to this:

No way they could possible stream this. The earth is flat, sure, but it is SUPER thick so there is no way the rays from the starlink satellite could get through the flat earth to the complete OTHER SIDE and BACK to transmit the signal.

Pure fantasy.

Watch these people be the only ones that survive the nuclear apocalypse I'm going to be so mad :messenger_grinning_sweat:
LOL.

I dont eat great. I lost a bit of weight over the past couple years but didnt do any better. So compared to many friends, I'm a fatty. Sometimes they bring up every couple years something like..... "if you might outlive us, were going to make sure we kill you first!" lol

Maybe save themselves sometime and just ask Starlink if the earth is flat?
Once you start using satellites in your scheme to show that the earth is flat the whole thing falls apart.
Flurfs don't believe in satellites, to them the "satellites" are weather balloons.

Right but then to ask a satellite company to provide technical assistance - believing the company are outright lying about what they do?

Oh boy. If that's their flat earth model, there are far simpler ways to test it than by travelling to Antarctica during the peak of winter.
What a bunch of clowns.

Here's one off the top of my head which can be done during any time of the year and much more cheaply:

Explain why distances between consecutive longitudes North of the equator are the same as they are South of the equator?

Here's another: How do you even get a lunar eclipse in this model?

Here's another: Why do the lengths of the day and night change over the year?

Or: Why are there seasons?

Or: What even is a year in your model?

And another: Why does the moon look upside down in the southern hemisphere relative to the northern hemisphere?
Same for the constellations.

And how do Mercury and Venus even fit into this picture?

I could go on all day. There are so many holes it's difficult to call this a "theory" with a straight face.

They must be some weird gay sex cult and the whole flat earth thing is just a facade. It's the only thing that would explain flat earthers existing.
Wasn't the deal that the people that originally came up with the flat earth society did it as a joke and never meant it to be take seriously?

...reasonable questions removed....

None of those lets you crowd fund a trip to Antartica though....

This is literally all fake. All they have to do is get on a plane and fly in a straight line until they get back to where they started. No one is this stupid. I don't believe it. No one that has the means to travel to Antarctica is this dumb. They can end the debate in 2-3 days just flying in a private plane comfortably.

Or hell, just go to whatever you think the edge of the world is and fly past that. Real genius minds here.

Watching flat earthers do science is a fascinating demonstration of cognitive dissonance.

You expect them to just be dumb, but a lot of them come up with pretty sophisticated experiments that are perfectly valid. The problem is that, when the results inevitably point to a round earth they just go "Fuck, we must have done the experiment wrong."

I remember seeing a doc a while back where they pooled their money and got some laser gyroscope, a piece of scientific equipment that cost 5 figures, so they could see if it really would drift x number of degrees in the same direction due to the earth's rotation. Good experiment, smart experiment!

But when it ultimately did what round earthers said it would they just go "Bah, must be magnetic interference. And they built a magnetic shielding chamber. That's called a control, acceptable science!

But then they do the experiment with the added control and the same thing happens. And they go "Well, fuck maybe we need to bury it underground" and so they bury it underground and watch it and the same thing happens.

And at the end of all that they're looking at each other like "What are we missing here, fellas? We KNOW the earth is flat so why can't we prove it?"

Probably worth mentioning that flat earthers are almost all religious creationists. They aren't all biblical literalists but they almost all believe that round earth is a conspiracy to undermine God somehow.

I can't watch the videos.

Are they taking normal scientists with them? People who actually know the earth is round? If not, I just have a feeling they'll try and fake it and come back with "proof" the earth is flat.

We really do live in the age of ignorance. Even God fearing medieval era people knew the earth was round. Hell, even the ancient Greeks knew it was round. What the fuck happened?

Like I said, usually what ends up happening if the experiment is actually a good experiment, it will prove that the earth is round, and they will all just sit around going "What did we do wrong? We know the earth is flat so clearly the problem is human error."

They aren't following the evidence, they have a religious belief that they have made into a core of their identity that is immovable and they will look for evidence to support it and ignore evidence that doesn't support it, even in their own experiments.

Not that I believe the earth is flat but I don't understand what the big deal is. How would our lives change one way or another?
Well, for starters, if the worlds WAS a giant coin shaped disc in space, presumably there is AN ENTIRE OTHER SIDE we have not exploited, mined, or figured out if it is populated as well and they might come over and attack us!!

It would be kinda like if there was a massive continent in the middle of the pacific ocean and we all just agreed to not ever go there.

To me the "Flat Earth Society" is really just a skeptics group. No one really thinks the earth is actually flat, it is a metaphor for questioning anything that can not be personally verified and has to be distilled down by some sort of authority. And undoubtedly they doubt stuff that is actually a lie/misunderstood/incompletely understood phenomenon. Like gravity. I'm sure in 300 years we will have an understanding of gravity that makes what we think about it now basically untrue, even if we can exploit it consistently (much like how birds, insects, and plants can exploit gravity without understanding it at all).
