Forza Horizon 5 |OT| Are you a Mexican, or a Mexican't?

Forza Horizon is the main reason I own an XSX....I absolutely adored the previous entries.

This one...not so much.

Firstly the positives : it looks pretty. Very pretty in fact.

The negatives :

- There is virtually nothing new in this game, it really is just a reskin of FH4
- I seemed to spend most of my time disconnected from the server...I think this is a known issue but come on.
- The woke pronouns shit at the beginning and the hideous selection of driver avatars...I wouldn't sit in a car with any of these cunts
(on a side note, this worries me massively in connection with Fable, another series that made me buy the XSX. If ever a game existed that will be damaged by this sort of woke shit, Fable is it).
- The showcase events are borderline embarrassing at this point. I'm pretty sure I could put my controller down, go and make a cup of tea, come back and still magically win by one inch.
- On normal, the game is way to easy now. Just zoom past everyone at the first corner and then you are done. There is no racing involved. Yes I can bump it up in difficulty, but the opposite is true here. They seem to think increased difficulty = rubber banding. It's ridiculous.
- The bonus boards are easy...I got them all very quickly. Nothing like the church in FH4.
- I keep on getting a bug where my car just stops for no reason? It's only happened about a dozen time in 25 hours, but it's quite jarring.

I didn't write this to rain on anyone's parade, if you are enjoying it that's great. I have had a lot of fun myself.

But this game is no masterpiece...not by a long shot.

That's related to disconnect issues. I hope they fix it quickly.

How much are realistic the km/h of the cars? Can a car doing 400km/h?
Few of them can do that without tune. I would say that speed is proportional to what is reality.

This is my first Forza game and first impressions are good. The graphics and open world are beautiful, the performance is great, lots of stuff to do,no annoying cheesy story thrown in like NFS, difficulty options are good, music is nice. I'm little bit confused by Multiplayer mode though, like I don't really understand how Multiplayer works, sometimes I start Multiplayer and thrown in the middle of an event that's already going on, there's too much modes am not really sure which ones to play and which ones are good.

This. This is very true. Game is amazing but at the end of the day it's just more of the same formula that was introduced in Forza Horizon 2. Forza Horizon 6 need to shake things up in a big way. I hope the move to new engine and game being next-gen only will do the trick.

After 3 days and 8 hours spend in the game and close to 600k in accolades points I can say with full confidence that Forza Horizon 3 is still my absolute favourite entry in the series.

From the previews I was expecting a true next gen experience.

This is FH4 remade in Mexico.

Not sure I’ll be playing it much , if you’ve played
FH4 it’s almost identical if anything is a much more polished product and experience.
I'm in the same boat but on PC, and I play on a 55" OLED. Sure there is more geometry in some places, but mostly 5 looks and plays similar to 4, which is not a bad thing.

Your that triggered by a menu option at the start of the game (that you only ever see once) that you think the game is not good anymore.....

Imagine being that triggered by a menu option. These 'woke' complainers are taking it to another level.

No denying the game looks fantastic. A step up from previous entries. Initial impressions of the map are good too (4 was a tad bland except for Edinburgh and the Highlands).

But you can’t argue with people saying it’s like FH3/4 all over again.

Gameplay wise, that was to be expected.

Whether this disappoints you will be determined by how much you love the series, or whether or not this is your first time/have not been burned-out yet by previous iterations.

Personally, I love the series, and will spend time with this - especially trying to get to the top of my friend leaderboards.

But a small part of me wishes they had changed it a little bit. Better menus, new sounds for the wheels spins - anything!

I have to say it’s quite disappointing that they don’t let us change the driver more. It’s 2021, they should either create an awesome looking driver character in-house or let us go all in on character creation. Kids wanted to make Wreck It Ralph. Nope, only one body type here.

Yeah pretty much, I don't know what I expected but from previews/reviews you would have thought this was the second coming or something.
Its a high res last gen game at best.

Honestly I think Dirt 5 is more impressive in some areas and has physical deformation.

Ill play more as I think its fun etc, but by no means is this a 10/10 experience.

After playing about 15 hour here are some of my thoughts:

Pros:
- Amazing varied map, they listened to everyone who loved Australia's map and said they took a big step backwards with the UK's
- Great variety of events and it's nice how easy it is to switch between them all
- Insane car list and way better customisation than the last few games
- Visually great, don't think it's as 'next-gen' as people make it out to be but it looks really nice nonetheless
- Performance and polish on the game is insane like always. People forget that all five games perform well and barely have any bugs, just incredibly polished games and it adds so much
- Driving mechanics seem massively improved, the biggest from 1 to 2 in my eyes

Cons:
- Worst soundtrack in any Horizon game by a mile especially Horizon Pulse
- Yet again the 'city' is far too small
- The amount of events and markers on the map has for the first time in any Horizon game made me feel overwhelmed
- Horrible voice acting and dialogue
- Stories are horrible, just give me back bucket list challenges without all the cringe
- Street racing is still fairly lame, needs to add something else to distinguish it further
- Everything is far too similar to 3 and 4 overall, it's not a bad thing but it kind of feels more of the same and nothing really new
- Not ditching cosmetic items in wheelspins is something I'm shocked didn't happen
- Being able to choose any car for any event sort of loses it's novelty, this is something the first game got right by having certain classes/types of cars needed for individual events.I'm shocked 4 games on these still don't exist at all anymore, a mix would have been really nice.

Right now if I had to rank the games I would probably still say 3 > 1 > 5 > 4 > 2. Sadly I don't think they'll ever touch the quality of 1 and 3 again but at least it's better than 2 and 4. Like others have said though, it's far from a masterpiece but no doubt a great game.

Made a crappy phPBB forum once ... once.
So between the Goliath trick and the Blueprint "Do a Barrel Roll" exploit, leveling, wheelspins and money are hopelessly broken in this game.

I really don't think there's much Playground can do to stem the tide. Sure, this stuff will be patched (to an extent), but the sweet, sweet damage is already done.
How long does it till you unlock the Goliath event?

And do you really wanting to be leaving your console on while your sleeping for 8 hours with an elastic band round your controller? (If that’s what I’ve seen suggested?)

FH5 is beautiful. The only blemish is a very agressive LOD in performance mode.

They should have aimed for a 1440p resolution or lower (similar to what Insomniac does when aiming for 60fos on PS5)

FH5 has more detailed environments than FH4 but suffers from a much more noticeable LOD.

I can echo most of your sentiments here. For me, after about 20 hours and 70% of the game „complete“ in terms of achievememts:

Pros:
- Cars and environments can look gorgeous under the right conditions.
- Plenty of cool carts to drive around, each with unique handling and attributes that can make each race play out differently.
- Plenty of content to do and the visual variety in the region is fantastic.

Cons:
- Music sucks, but I hated the music in all these games. I don‘t think there is a single racing/sports title that has good music.
- City is Boring. They really should design one major city instead of taking the „highlights“ of towns and scrunching them together into very tiny, nearly non existent villages.
- Drivatar Customization is awful, all characters look wrong.
- There is a crazy amount of pop in, which isn‘t too much of an issue until you are in more bland looking environments like the desert regions. Where there is less stuff on screen and the pop in is super blatant.
- Going from the non sandstorm to sandstorm environment is super jarring and doesn‘t mesh well. Just needs a little bit more tweaking in that transition.
- Story is awful and simply should not exist. Just give me the bare bones or give me more customization options for Horizon festivals. Let *me* create the festivals. The music that plays (preferably through things like Spotify/Apple Music), the type of setting the festival looks like (Hippy/„high class“/spring break), the style of banners and colors of said banners. If they need a story, go over the top. Have it be like the Halo event where they just go balls to the wall and be this massive PR stunt. They could do a lot of these. Maybe a James Bond PR stunt where you are racing through Mexico City. Or a Banjo Kazooie Nuts and Bolts event.
- The variety of cars and ability to choose anything for any race, as you said, can really make races feel… monotonous. You have to go out of your way to use certain cars for certain events to even have a challenge. It’s too easy to buy a super powered car and just power through 99% of the content in the game with the one vehicle. Go back to having certain races only for certain vehicle types/classes. Have a Humvee only race. Motor Classics only at B rank so some such. Force the use of different vehicles to add more variety.

This may look like I am not too hot on the game, but these have been issues since 3 IMO. The core game is still bloody *brilliant* and I do love playing it. But, as you said - it is just more of the same. Which is fine! But I was hoping for something newer and grander. What is here does work well, but I really hope that They go back to the drawing board with 6 and try something new, something different.

And even with all these negatives, the only one that *really* frustrates me and knocks points off are the god awful Drivatars customization options and filler within wheelspins. They suck. But that takes a 9 to 9.5 out of 10 title to an 8.5 / 10. Still a must have title for anyone who likes driving games or wants one of the best titles Xbox Series X has to offer.

I wish they got rid of the wheel spins all together.
I want to feel like I earned money/cars/clothes/etc, not got lucky and won them on a game of chance.

Holy shit, that looks awesome. DIdn't know you could built something that complex.

The only time I've ever sat in a home set up is some super small cramped thing my brother in law bought for Gran Turismo during the PS3 days. I'm a stocky guy so when I tried it, it was tight as fuck! lol. He's skinny so it worked.

Just curious. Does the steering wheel tilt too? Or is it locked to a horizontal kind of position? What's that big lever? Hand brake?
I just have a seat mover currently so only the seat moves everything else is stationary. Yes, that is a handbrake, which I'm having issues with it working in the game. Also the game crashes a lot so I'm not able to play as much as I'd like. I had a strange issue last night where the game would go all pixelated about every 10 seconds. I had just updated the firmware of the monitor so I thought that was the issue, but l luckily I found a reddit poster that had the same issue and the fix was to reset all your Nvidia settings back to default.

Here is a quick video of the whole setup in action. I have the motion turned up a bit since this isn't a simulation game.

Throw in the buy the Willys Jeep for 40k invest 5 points to get the super wheel spin delete said Jeep and repeat credits are endless.

Thing is imo Playground doesn't much care its an arcade game meant for fun

Try hitting up on the Dpad (to enter photo mode). Then hit the start button to remove the on-screen hud. Then move the camera around for your perfect shot.

^^ That's how I took the above. The photo mode does this weird thing (blurs everything and I have to fiddle with it) when I am trying to get it ready for a shot. The ones I shared don't look as clean or crisp to me as the ones others have shared (not referring to composition, in the pics above I wasn't focused on that.)

EDIT
I guess, I just want the blur to be off. I might just have to mess around with the advanced settings.

EDIT
When I mean blur everything, it will for some reason blur the entire thing when I am trying to take close up shots.

Yeah I mostly agree. I've spent few hours playing it and even beaten the goliath race. That's more than I can say for fh3 and fh4.
The game seems perfect from the overview... and that's how reviews show it. But it's far from it. Imo it's less than sum of it's parts.

-The graphics are great but it looks exactly the same as FH4 .. with minor improvements. I am playing 4k, extreme on 3080. Looks good but nothing that new or pushing the envelope.
-The game feels aimless. it does not have to be a bad thing... I am still smoetimes playing FUEL just to roam around for the views and atmosphere but nothing interesting here.
-The pronouns etc are just ... why. The game is so safe.
-The UI is still terrible. Rewards here, rewards there, this points, that points, this events here, there, from this or that menu. There is so much more going on in the UI than in fact is happening.
-Constant pop ups "great speed, clean race, near miss..." all the time. Middle top part of the screen always counts the points.
-Someone is always talking. always
-The big events feel fake. Goliath race was ... like 12 minutes and it's the biggest race ever? The volcano trip is just... nohing. And so on. Some cool looking events but overhyped.
-Barn finds are still annoying and not fun to do. And this time you don't even get the car straight away
-Why ask me if I want to "have my car deliverd" ?! I am changing my fucking car. What else would I want ?!
-reminders to buy car packs or super wheel spins
-Constant wheel spins ... yay, you got a new horn lol.
-Cringe, bad characters. Not as bad as fh3 though
-Music is worse than fh4.
-Had 2 desktop crashes and constant network disconnects
-Also, some car rewards feel like just car ads

The racing itself is well done, game looks great but I don't like everything around it. They try really hard to overburden you with UI, scores, pointless rewards, lotteries etc, while not that much is really happening. Next race is 20km away. Pay 10k cr or drive there for 5 minutes.

I think it's not for me. I kinda enjoy it ? But also I feel casualized as fuck and annoyed by the terrible menus and "what is the next race" structure.
All the 10/10 scores are 100% not deserved. Like wtf ? The game is FINE but it's now perfect

Is it the They/Them choice? If so then just choose He/Him or She/Her and continue with your life. Not worth getting cranky over imo.

That said, the choices when creating the character is incredibly lackluster. No facial features choices. Everybody have the same body type. It’s mostly about choosing skin tone, racial origin and hair. There isn’t even beard choices. In 2021, the year of the beard. Just give me a well designed Stig, as is the character creator is a waste of time, useless and boring.

It really does feel that people are starved for a “next gen experience” and will jump to celebrate anything that releases on next gen systems. Death loop had the same problem. That isn’t to say the games are bad by any means, but they aren’t masterpieces like so many are desperate to claim.

nail on the head here. Game is probably in reality a 6/7 out of 10 game.

Personally I am not a fan of the series at all…but your OT is fantastic! Thank you for putting this much effort into, really well done 👍

Thanks, I did the FH4 OT after the game released but it never really took off and was kind of rushed, I think it ended up at two pages total. I had some ideas for this one right after it was announced to be in Mexico so it turned out better.

holy shit, when did this thread became a salt mine?

I guess everyone enjoying the game is playing non stop and already left.

Not everybody is going to like the game, they're free to express that. As long as people aren't just here to derail the thread or harass others I encourage them posting regardless of their experience.

How are you all taking your pictures?

Mine don't like as nice as some of the others I've seen posted.

This guide covers a ton of options in the game

For the images you posted I'd say your shutter speed is off and your Sampling is set to Fast instead of quality. The for images where the car is in motion you'll need to adjust until the ground is blurring to an acceptable rate for the image.

Choosing between panning and Tracking can affect blur as well. Panning will treat the shot as if the camera is moving to point at the selected object from a point. You'd get shots like these from a stationary trackside camera turning to photograph the action. Tracking is as if you mounted the camera to the car so that it's moving with the car as it takes a picture.

The other cause of blur is the Aperture setting. this will cause anything not in focus to blur more the further it is from the focal point. Set this too high and everything looks blurry.

Finally you have to set your focal point. In the photomode while not in the advanced settings hitting X will focus the camera on what is in the center of the circle. You can focus on other cars, background elements, etc. The aperture, shutter, etc will all use that point as the basis for the entire image.
