FromSoft passed on working with Sony for Dark Souls because they were disappointed with how they treated Demon’s Souls

Speaking to the Sacred Symbols podcast, former SIE president Yoshida explained that Sony wanted to work on the sequel to Demon’s Souls with FromSoftware, but the developer turned it down and instead decided to work with Bandai Namco on what would become Dark Souls.

Huss, quiet you, you're ruining a perfectly good "Sony bad" narrative.

One of Shuhei's biggest fumbles imo.

no, there's a bigger fumble after that.

Sony/Shuhei and From Soft patched it up and they worked together again for Bloodborne. But also during Bloodborne development, From Soft put themselves up for sale. And Sony didn't make a move. In fact none of the big publishers made an offer to buy From Soft.

At the end Kadokawa bought From Soft for probably very cheap price

And now Sony will be pretty much publishing everything for them in the future according to reports.

Do we need another ArtHands ArtHands thread after he already made 5 yesterday? Non stop pro-PC anti-Sony agenda hit pieces…oh wait

Do we need you playing defense in every thread that doesn’t paint Sony as some infallible corporation that never makes mistakes?

Shu is on a media tour and spilling the beans. Nobody ever really spelled out like this what exactly happened after Demon’s Souls and there was a bunch of speculation.

iirc didn't Sony played the first Dark Souls or Demon Souls and said to FROM that it is one of the worst jank game they had ever played, before release obviously.

Yeah and that media tour turns into thread spinning hour with some of these topic titles that lack context

The fact that they went onto make bloodborne makes this whole thing a nothingburger lol

Even FromSoftware didn’t know they had a hit at the time. (Shu didn’t see the brilliance of it at the time, but let’s be honest… just picking up that game for a few minutes knowing nothing about it would not make a great impression. It takes a little bit for everything to click. So yeah. Everyone is excused on this one)

This is some fan-fiction as I’ve ever heard some.

nope, nothing in their agreement states that Sony will publish From Soft games. From Soft will self-publish after Elden Ring,

And their games will not be exclusive to PlayStation platform
Never said anything about exlusivity.

The video I saw, after a few hours of play he called it an “unbelievably terrible game”. These games can leave a really bad first impression. I know it did with me.🤣

I bought a sex doll, but I keep it inflated 100% of the time and use it like a regular wife
If they show you something and just tell you "this is Kings Field but in third person" you'll probably wouldn't have been impressed either.

Who says these latest threads aren't flattering to Sony? Why is everything so binary on GAF?

Yoshida has been saying a lot that almost comes off as getting failures off his chest or venting.

Interpret them all you want. I'm neither pro nor anti Sony. I just read what's in front of me.

Yoshida is giving a fuller understanding on many different situations while he was at Sony. Most people are asking him about the failures for obvious reasons. But he's also saying positive things too. I'm sure you've seen those threads also on GAF the last few days right?

Ridiculous. But, oh well, I'm happy with how everything panned out regardless.

Except, you know, would be cool to see a Bloodborne remaster or something.

And thank God for that, going multiplatform turned out to be an incredibly beneficial move for both From and the gaming community at large.

Yup. And when all those players got hooked, they got 360 players to buy a PS3 for Demon's Souls, a PS4 for Bloodborne and a PS5 for Demon's Souls Remake. Sounds like more From PlayStation exclusives are otw too.

Did I ever at any point imply that positive things to discuss about Sony did not exist?

I mean...right now Sony has never been this close to not only FromSoftware but the parent company as well so i wouldn't say they made a huge mistake.

Seems fair, they really dropped the ball. Maybe one positive net result of them fumbling it so bad would be Bloodborne? I assume Miyazaki got more or less carte blanche/greater creative freedom due to Sony trying to get back on thei good side.
