GAF's Nintendo Discussion, News, and Speculation |OT|

What did you use before? The US shop?

There's a local eShop with some titles, mostly first party stuff with select indie games. You had to buy it on the browser and then it would mail you a code so the eShop icon on the Switch was just the field where you would put in the code.

It was functional, but the problem is the limited catalog. They announced the new, bigger eShop will come with 700 titles at launch and they promised competitive prices. There's some hope they will do weekly sales and stuff like that, like we have on Steam, Xbox Store and PSN. I do want to add that Steam is absolutely EXCELLENT in that regard, Xbox Store is also really good, but PSN has been increasingly unaffordable. Since I became a Discount Hunter, it's been MONTHS since I last saw a HOLY SHIT price on PSN. I've been waiting to find Pathologic 2 for less than a hundred BR bucks forever and even when it's discounted it's always over that, while on Steam you can regularly find it for 30 BR moneys.

Anyway, just like a BR dong, I've gone on too long. But I'm stoked for this and I can't wait to spend even more money on stuff I'll probably never play like an absolute retard.

So I was answering a survey for the game eiyuden chronicle hundred heroes on kickstarter and the last question was
"Please indicate which Platform you would like your game for: / ご希望のゲームプラットフォームを選択してください"

The option stood out to me.

I feel like we've seen something like this on a survey not long ago.

Okay, that is all really awesome and surprising. I expected boring update, and every single part delivered.

Automatic cloud downloads is going to make multi-Switch ownership just about perfect. Download priority was also really needed, and easy screen and video transfers, instead of going through Twitter and Facebook, is amazing.

I didn’t. But modern Fire Emblem is a terrible game for weebs.

UYyKAZV.gif

Look, there will be a place for you in the new world. If you admit Fire Emblem is a really unpolished dating/tea party simulator for weebs, dragging the mutilated, now casual friendly corpse of classic Fire Emblem battles behind it, in an attempt to excuse itself for its misdeeds.

This is all I ask, my child.

Down with your tyrannical rule, long live Dimitri!

Seriously though, I truly do think that Dimitri is Fire Emblem's best character. His arc is extraordinary, and his supporting cast bounce off each other spectacularly well. I keep trying to get into the Golden Deer, and while I do like most of the characters, the story honestly feels more hamstrung with them, being more based on giving background information than having any emotional weight or relevancy, as the actual chapters are the exact same as the Blue Lions. Thus, Claude doesn't really flow with the actual ongoings of the story, which, while it goes with what I suspect is his central arc, makes this path feel like a gaiden rather than a central story.

Now, the maps themselves... actually are quite good at the base design of them, if too repeated between all the paths of the game. But, it just offers too many methods of breaking them, so it's rather pointless to even bother talking about them.

Now, the monastery activities at first seem expansive and nearly overwhelming... but I'm here to help. Here's the list of stuff worthwhile:

1. Garden time for easy teacher points
2. Fish time for easy teacher points
3. Run around the monastery to throw owl feathers/lost items at random students for support points to recruit them
4. Stuff students with food to boost motivation (this is actually the most benefitual thing to do, as you can also eat with potential recruits, hence killing two birds with one stone)
5. As soon as the students ate, waste the rest of your activity points on teacher training.

Everything else is pointless. Especially tea time. Dear god do I despise that activity.

The teaching component is actually quite fun to play with, allowing for a vast variety of playstyles and creativity. But... the movement options with this game make everything about this mute and void, especially when you realize that making every non-mage character a wyvern lord is the best choice, thus making most other options pointless if you don't play games for fun.

Yeah... it's unpolished. It's a lot of fun, but heavily unpolished. Fates/Awakening are still far more weeb trash than this game though. And Dimitri is still the best Fire Emblem character.

Did Nintendo just put a giant red button on the Home Screen, that’s essentially an ad for Nintendo Online?

Edit: I mean, I wouldn’t mind if Nintendo had merged the NES and SNES apps into that button, but it’s just another launcher.
I actually kind of like it. Showing which saves are in the cloud and what special offers are available at a glance is nice. The NES and SNES page shows a timeline when each game was released. If you hover over a game that was released in your birth month it will tell you how old you were (or weren't) when the game came out.

At some point, I hope the Switch gets a folder system, or some kind of organization options. Themes would be nice too. The 3DS UI wasn't always fast, but I liked the customization. The WiiU wasn't always fast, but I liked the organization. There's a lot of little things I liked having in the 3DS that I miss in the Switch. StreetPass was fun, those Play Coins were fun. The eshop music was fun. I miss the personality imbued in the Wii through 3DS systems.

Eh, whatever, I guess. They're minor quibbles, I suppose.

Folders and themes aren't a huge deal to me. More than anything I'd like party chat, bluetooth audio support, cloud saves for Splatoon/Pokemon, and updates to first party games so they could use the invitation feature. I'd also like to see them completely revamp the store though. I imagine it must be frustrating for developers. It is slow and the sorting/discoverability features are poor. If I didn't know to search for titles I am not sure that I would ever discover them on my own.

Let's make fun of him for it. Wtf even is a Husker anyway
Maybe?

Edit: Also, I will not make fun of HuskerfanChuck HuskerfanChuck , he's one of us now!

Born and raised in Nebraska, live about five minutes from Huskers campus, follow all their teams more than any pro team, in really any sport. They really are the team to follow. I'll passively follow KC pro teams, but my passion, sports wise, really is the Huskers. Just became consistent name for me to use on forums. :) But I did put up a festive video game avatar. :-D I'll give everyone the history of the Nebraska team name at some point.

Ubisoft has been all over the place output wise. Rainbow Six Siege is one of the greatest FPS ever. The same team would go on to develop Hyperscape, the single most forgettable battle royale. They put out the phenomenal Ghost Recon Wildlands, a fantastic open world game only to follow it up with the abysmal Ghost Recon Breakpoint. Watch Dogs were total duds. The Division 1 really resonated with people after a few patches and The Division 2 failed to build on that.

Zero interest in Immortals.
