GTA Vice City Nextgen Edition

Nice! Apparently there are 6205 Seeding (including me) this right now.

The game works surprisingly well, some cars and the Harley bike have floaty and unresponsive physics, and some car models make their occupants look like midgets... At one point I found it funny that one of the pedestrians took out a cell phone and started talking :messenger_grinning_smiling:

It would be amazing if these guys cooperated with some "Vice City Remastered" graphics mod, the game looks dated af.

There's a few small graphical glitches here and there (wonder if they have to do more with the ENB that comes packed in than anything else) and the camera while driving fucking sucks, but aside from that, man is this an impressive project.
I'm not sure but i've disabled Handbrake Cam in the settings and now the camera doesn't spin around the car when driving into a turn.

That trailer is incredible! Props to the editor,it looks better than 95% of today's trailers. Gameplay action, good use of music and voiceovers and story scenes that pull you in. It's what any trailer should be.

I'm thinking reshade for now until other mods hit...

Still needs a bit of work from what I've played but man it is fun. I've read on reddit that the devs said on telegram that they'll keep working on it so here's hoping they keep improving it until it becomes the definitive way to play this game.
Honestly every gta modder should begin following these guys steps and just host their shit in russia or other unfavourable countries that don't give a fuck about copyright laws to stop T2 from being able to do much about it other than taking it down on western platforms.
Watching big publishers eat shit like this feels almost as good as playing the game

Well, this was originally supposed to be released as a mod-only, requiring the user to own the base game... The expectation would be that owners of the game should be allowed to mod a game as they see fit I guess.

As a result of T2/Rockstar's actions, the whole game is now out there in a ready-to-go state.
They re-did the entire game in a different engine. An engine that isn't a part of GTA Vice City.

This is not a mod, even if they did do some coding to "ensure" that VC was installed, buyers of VC don't get access to the modern engine... because that's not a part of the product.

If it's just files over-layed on top of a game, and those files don't come from a completely separate product, that's a "mod." This isn't.

It's a result of the creators of this not-mod to release the whole thing illegally to the public, not Take 2. It would have been illegal with or without them claiming it was going to check to see if Vice City was installed.

To do a project like this, ask permission, it's sort of obvious what is going to happen.

Are you always this dense? Is everything ok? I seem to remember your comments being more grounded and cogent in the past. Now you seem to post nothing but incoherent gibberish.

GTA Vice City: Nextgen Edition isn’t a mod for GTA Vice City. It’s a mod for GTAIV (GTA4) which brings the world of Vice City to GTAIV.

The original plan was for the mod to require a copy of GTA IV, not VC. Ideally it should need both but GTA IV would always be the priority for obvious reasons.

I understand why T2 tried to take the mod down but still it frustrates the hell out of me.
4 dudes made an insanely better product compared to an entire team with the "Defective Edition" of the trilogy, Rockstar should've just hired these guys and made a deal with them to turn the mod into a commercial product instead of taking it down. Too bad gta online is such a big cash cow that they don't even need to consider more profitable approaches to modding rather than having a full on scorched earth policy...

Damn, shit gave me all types of feels.

Vice City was actually the best of the OG Trilogy and maybe the best of them all.

The hype for more GTA after 3 was unreal. Good times.
I agree.

I know that San Andreas has better gameplay, and more variety in the gameplay and the world in general so it's a better game in many ways but Vice City will always be the superior game in the 3D trilogy for me.

The characters, the music, and the world were just amazing. IV is still my favorite game overall (a lot of it is that I will always have a soft spot for NYC and any NYC related content but I think storewide it's the best and it's my favorite gameplay as well) but Vice City is amazing.

Not excited for VI to be honest though. Modern Miami is of no interest to me (actually actively off-putting), and while I will still buy and play it my excitement is low. I just know the music for example is going to be hot garbage.

80s Miami is however peak.

Gives me H2M vibes. They stated unequivocally that the game required a copy of Modern Warfare Remastered in order to try to stay sweet with Activision. It didn't help and they got shut down anyway. Then the game files leaked and it turned out you didn't need to own the game.

Because when the modders are developing these mods they obviously have a full copy of the game that's already modified and those are the files that were leaked.
If these publishers didn't fuck around, compiling the mods without the game's binaries would be relatively easy to do. Case in point, see Re3 and ReVC, those modders completely reverse engineered GTA 3 and GTA VC but they made sure you still needed a copy of the game installed on your machine in order for you to be able to use said mods and technically that should be legal. Those modders even decided to fight and went to court but they probably couldn't bear the costs and had to settle...

So I had a bit of a brain fart, I appreciate the correction.

My overall point still stands. These devs do not own Vice City, or it's likeness. Before spending endless amounts of time building something they should consider what the publisher will do.

Making a "mod" for GTA IV with the likeness of Vice City maps. stories, characters, etc. is not something allowed by default. Same as if they tried to release a top-down Vice City game using some proprietary engine they built. Even if it uses 0 assets from the actual Vice City game it's still not within the devs rights to do that w/o permission.

We aren't entitled to community made remakes as gamers, we just want them. Some publishers participate with these projects, most don't... some are pretty hands off on enforcement, others aren't. Either way anything like this project is way outside any sort of normal fair use of modding.

Hardly anyone ever attempts to do this for any game for that very reason.

It's a pretty brutal move on their part, but we're past all stages of acceptance

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your families, nobody could have seen that coming. I hope you guys remake a Nintendo game next.

Who will win this war? T2 or a bunch of russian dudes who have nothing to lose since western corps can't really touch them in russia?
Man I so hope they keep fucking with T2 for a long long time.

One of the devs is active on gtaforums, I wouldn't be surprised if T2 tries to go after them next for allowing threads about the mod.

I played this Next Gen mod, but I still prefer original color grading / atmosphere. Also car driving is much more fun in the original. In the Next Gen mod, car driving feels comparable to GTA4 and I never liked it (Too slow and unsatisfying). To make matters worse, the traffic in Next Gen edition mod is extremely dense, making it difficult to pass cars in front of you.

For anyone wondering. This mod - - is fucking awesome.

It tightens up the vehicle handling while retaining the GTA IV handling physics so it still feels like GTA IV's driving but more responsive. The brakes still take ages though. But oh man is it hilarious. I think a lot of people miss the point that some of the control is supposed to feel unresponsive to certain degree so that you cause more accidents. And that's why I love these this version of rage especially. It's the silliest and I actually think it's awesome that it's not that gory, it makes it funnier.

Anyway, that mod is sick check it out. It made the lighting look so much more vibrant with more contrast between colors as well.

I really hope people dig into this and somehow make a GTA VI map in this game. It would be sick as shit.

Is there a possibility to make you own Radiostation like in the original or GTA IV?
Don't get me wrong the Radiostations are mostly awesome for what they are in Vice City but i just can't stand those 80s music. Sorry.
I liked San Andreas much better in that regard.

Ah not this shit again. I'm just not a fan of this decade, people get over it.
Please spare me further comments on this.
Edit: It's appearently not possible without some changes made, forget my question people. It's solved.
