Guerrilla Games’ Tim Symons “can’t believe we pulled it off: developing an AAA game (Lego Horizon) for Nintendo Switch by PlayStation Studios”

A lot of these super vocal "Sony fans" came from xbox after the xbone fiasco and have a twisted outlook on the industry.
I'll believe that.

The 360 days were magical.

We need that kind of competition back again (without all the timed exclusive bullshit)

Sony calls practically every game of theirs 'AAA',

Please don't say anything dumb for *only* 5 minutes, please!

The only dumb thing —besides Hermen's actions and thoughts— is to suggest a Lego game is or should be AAA. If it's actually the case, which I don't want to believe, it's an unjustified expenditure. Not hard to understand.

Even PS fanboys are sick of Horizon and this is the Lego version.

I know hardcore Sony fans have been left in the cold this Gen, but Lego Horizon was the title they really wanted. The “big one”. Thankfully Sony delivered on that. Sure we might not get a new Naughty Dog this Gen and certainly not a new Bloodborne, but I’d like to think this makes up for that and more. Good looking out GG. Herman was the right choice.

Dumber than suggesting that the studio should be shut down over this? I don't think so (more so especially that the main studio is not even owned by Sony).
You're talking about an unjustified expenditure, but you have no idea how much money is being spent on this, it's not like 'AAA' is defined by a known set amount of money and you can only go up from there.
But if you actually managed to think about these things, you would realize that this game (by watching all the footage over there) isn't of a high budget by any means, and that this is obviously just PR/marketing from Sony/Guerrilla.

Taking the bait, I know, but do you only come to Sony threads to troll about Sony fans?

Maybe they thought that her being stoic, brave and focused on the job was enough to make her interesting but i get it, she is not exactly the most endearing character :lollipop_grinning_sweat:

Not gonna lie, as an atheist, I do enjoy when she complete troll religious figures because she has shit to accomplish, so in a way i like some of her interactions:lollipop_grinning_sweat:

And let's be honest, she is not always a cunt, i could post countless of sidequest cutscenes where she is genuinely worried or kind, people just like to exagerate or they didn't played any of the multitude of sidequest in the game, she is less of a cunt outside of the main mission.
Yeah I get ya, and also an atheist, so I also found amusement in those takes. But I recall seeing even the side quest interactions through my same cynical lense, it was like you could see a clenched jaw…I don’t know if it was a weird uncanny valley effect, but those “intended to be genuine” interactions also came off as disengenous because of that. Tho it was strange that it wasn’t felt from the other characters, which leads me to think something was mapped oddly specifically on her character, or it was her acting.

Either way it was a shame.

Aye. I'm one of ye. Or I was at least. I fought honorably in the PS3 vs 360 war, with additional ribbons for taking up Blu-Ray over HD-DVD on the AV forums. A Cell believer and Resistance 2 player. Heavenly Sword and Lair Day 1 enjoyer. I've coped harder than you can imagine nial. Sony and I have a complicated history, but if I didn't care about her at all I probably wouldn't post about her.

Idc lol, but you're making me appreciate current things ever more. Astro Bot was 100% my most wishlisted game when it came to Sony, and so I look at how much better I have it now compared to the Lair, Heavenly Sword and Resistance 2 days.
Seriously, why would you fight over any of these terrible titles when Sony was publishing far better games than them even back then?

The nicest person on this forum
I already played Horizon level on Astro Bot I don’t need any more fucking Horizon.

I fucking hate how much Sony pushing that IP in your face.

Neither can I. Sony is fucking stupid to allow their IP to go on non-PS hardware/platforms.

not a single person cares about this game because Horizon is on the cover.
people care that the Lego logo is on the cover. that's why people will buy it

GG should be getting mocked here. They are celebrating pulling off developing an AAA game on the switch while they are releasing a PS5 remake that doesnt use ray tracing, mesh shaders, or any kind of next gen tech in it. That wouldve been something to celebrate 'pulling off'.

Porting a basic ass kiddie game to nintendo switch is beyond stupid and they deserved to be mocked and criticized for it especially when they are doing the bare minimum with the PS5. These people have lost their fucking minds.
horizon looks amazing on ps5. this lego game is a perfect trojan horse.

Someone already ported a next-gen Lego game to Switch anyway, and the IP was more "AAA" than Horizon.

Thinks buying more servers can fix a bad patch
It's straight from the horse mouth (Guerrilla Games) that it is a AAA game by Playstation Studios so yah can't argue otherwise.

Complaining about everything dilutes legitimate complaints
It's reached "crying wolf" status.
I read this elsewhere: “We used to make fun of people who would complain/whine about everything and call them Karens.

Now we have entered a time where everyone online prefers to be a Karen.”

Huh? A remastered game isn't the same as a new game. And you don't have to buy those.

You don't have to buy them but you might have bought the game they could have remade/remastered instead.

It's like how Nintendo will spam 6 versions of the same game while never touching F-Zero GX.

Also funny of you to include a GOTY edition, I guess just completing a game and rolling up all updates is a remaster now lol.

Radicalized mental illness.

Maybe they take it a bit too personally, but no lies detected? I mean, they're only short-sighted scumbags if you're either a Sony shareholder or care about the future of Sony making video games.

What they are doing is literally the definition of trading long term plans for short term reward. I'm sure Lego Horizon will do great on Switch. Damaging the brand they built up since 1995 isn't worth it.

This is the path of Xbox.

It would be dumb enough to say this even if Microsoft hadn't just done the exact same thing before our eyes and been completely annihilated for it.

Console business 101, strong exclusive IP. To stray from this universal truth is to court death.

The people who give a damn are mad because they know this path will ruin Sony and they care about Sony.

I would also be incensed if Nintendo got port happy with PC. Because it is my wish to enjoy Nintendo games for a very long time to come.

Achieving prestige for your brand is the most difficult thing. Nintendo understands that 120% and that's why they can charge as much as they like for their products, no matter how dated they are. Sony realized that in the PS3 era and that's why they could turn things around in their favour. Now, a bunch of shortsighted hacks run the house and they will sink the brand in exchange for their fucking annual bonus.

People who can see beyond the present day know where this leads and legitimately get mad.

History 101

Nintendo create gaming, Sony try to partner with them, Nintendo reject Sony, Sony get upset and try to go it alone, Nintendo hit historic highs, Sony plateau, Sony have to whore themselves out and shamelessly beg Nintendo for sales. Nintendo graciously allow it while seeing Sony as nothing more than another failed upstart.

2 games released in the span of 6 years is enough for people to be sick of an IP? Damn

Imagine if Nintendo fans were like this for IPs such as Mario, Pokemon, etc.
I jumped on horizon as soon as it came out. When i got the sequel I decided I should upgrade my TV and got a 65" LG c4.

Sony is overdoing it with horizon. They announced 4 or 5 horizon projects a year ago. Remasters,Lego,tv show, mmo, and sequel. Same with tlou. Don't oversaturate the market. Same with Disney and star wars.

No it's not lol. Here is the thing Xbox built that dumb culture of over the top fanboys that would be hurt by Xbox games going to PlayStation. When MLB went multiplatform no one lost their mind . Nintendo lost Rare & some of the best games from the early Nintendo era & life went on , Nintendo lost Final Fantasy & life went on , PlayStation fanbase built Tekken, Spyro , Crash Bandicoot , MGS , Final Fantasy & GTA up to be big names but the PlayStation fanbase didn't act like it was the end of the world when they went to other consoles. Well besides the " Square shot themselves in the foot" guy lol & most of us just laughed at him .

I expected PS5 games to be playable on other consoles but Xbox just happened to go all in before PlayStation.

I asked for Twisted Metal to be multiplatform but they killed it & gave us this 😂

Have you ever thought that this game is going to Switch to entice people into getting a PS5 (or even Pro)? What if they are doing this to explore the viability of a full PS handheld again? What if part of the discussions with Lego meant that Lego would prefer it on Switch also (not saying told PlayStation to do so, it's PlayStations decision)? What if PlayStation do not consider Switch as a competitor to their console business? What if all of the above is true?

To think Sony is going to follow XBox down the path to self destruction is VERY premature, and why would they? They can see exactly what happened to them

Does AAA simply mean finished product now?
It means high budget game.

I think all or most of this may be true. On top of this, Sony is opening their 1st party to new genres and audiences they didn't dominate before.

In this case the family friendly, kids focused games. They know that in consoles, this kind of games work way better in Switch than in PS.

So maybe, being more specific on what you mentioned, they also are porting it to see if they lure these kids, turn them (and their parents, who are the ones who pay) into fans of these IPs via Lego adaptations, with the long term idea of once these kids grow migrate to PS to play the mainline games of these IPs.

To think Sony is going to follow XBox down the path to self destruction is VERY premature, and why would they? They can see exactly what happened to them
Not only premature, all the metrics point to the opposite.

In these 5 years of PC push Sony became a top 10 publisher in Steam history and the PS metrics kept growing to be most of them in all time high records and in a multiyear growth path.

As an example, the PS console active userbase is at all time highs, their ARPU too, and around half of the people who buys a PS5 is new to PlayStation. And looking at the PS and XB userbase of this and the previous generation, can't be Xbox players only: there's new PS users that should be coming from PC.

If Lego Horizon were the first title to do this, you could hope it's just a fluke for any myriad of reasons. But since they've been porting PS5 exclusives to PC for a while now, it's just a further push into the trend.

It's automatically a bad thing if for no other reason than it makes people wonder whether titles will ever jump off Playstation. I think PS is trying to set up to be relevant even if traditional consoles suffer but I think it's vital for them that they don't let it happen instead.

When Nintendo overtook Sega, they didn't start porting their games to Sega for "more money" because they had "already won".

Is there an official definition or budget that makes a game AAA?
Nah.

In the industry we use AAA as equivalent of 'big budget game', AA for 'medium size budget game' and AAAA for 'wtf these folks are crazy why did they put so much money on that game'. Plus indie for low budget game not supported/funded by a major/popular publisher/platform holder.

The budgets for big games get more expensive every generation, so every generation the range varies. We also don't know the exact budget for each game, but looking at the amount of people on its game credits via mobygames.com and to the length of its development you can make a fair estimate comparing it to similar ones whose budget is known.

AAA means you'll pretty likely see from almost 1000 people to over 2000 on its game credits, and that they may have take pretty likely from 4 to 6 years to make this game. I assume doesn't apply for this game, but some higher end AAA games go to over 3000 people and up to normally 9 years.

AAAA nowadays is normally crazy stuff that goes from around 4000 people to almost 10000 and often 6 to 9 plus years.

90% of PC ports are after a year or more (not including remasters, which is understandable as the original games are older than a year). Xbox is day and date and giving the games away 'free' on the XBox, how is that sustainable? (Answer: it isn't, hence it failing)

On forums/social media hate channels (you know who they are) this is outcry, how dare they, I'll just wait a year to get on PC.... In the real world people just get it on PlayStation and don't care.

Sure and we're 100% positive that if everybody knew Switch 1 games might come to PC a year later, it wouldn't affect their transition to Switch 2 whatsoever right.

No idea, we are talking about PlayStation not Nintendo, but in all likelihood in this hypothetical situation no one will care if they come to PC, they'll still sell Switch 2 at the same rate regardless (there hasn't even been an announcement of Switch 2 yet so we don't know what it is or how well it could sell, it may be another Wii U situation for all we know)
