Halo 4 at RTX

Thought this deserved it's own thread. Forge and MP stream on now.

1. Forge seems to calculate and bake lighting now. :D
2. Player trait zones (localized gravity/health/speed/etc. settings) look awesome.
3. 3 forge environments (mini-forge worlds?)

Details from reddit:
Forge
There will be "3 large environments"

When over an object, the object will be highlighted

There is now a "lock" object feature

You can duplicate objects (without finding the object in the menus again)

There is now a "magnet" system where you can easily connect objects to other objects. (Makes a bridge perfectly aligned. Also works for walls, structures, etc.)

Dynamic lighting for all Foregable objects (accepts shadows from the environment and casts shadows as well)

Hinted that objects will change to match the theme of the map

You can make zones (much like Reach) and when in the zone, the player's traits will change (speed, gravity, health, etc.)

They made a playable H.O.R.S.E. map in Halo 4's Forge

New purple "volumes" that will affect players and vehicles. It can boost them, slow them down, and move them to the sides

No weather settings for Forge

No undo feature for Forge. An undo feature is a "huge undertaking", "the magnet feature will hopefully reduce mistakes."

New weapons
Light Rifle (Promethean) - It will have a fast rate of fire when out of zoom. When in zoom, it will have a slower rate of fire.
Human Shotgun (officially announced)

Not Forge related
When damaged, unlike the E3 build (red arrows near reticule), the red damage indicator is on the sides of the screen.

Next to the player's name while in-game (bottom right corner, not the in-game lobby), their emblem shows up

Impressive lighting on weapons

Trip Mines confirmed

Saw first-person view of the Banshee

Spartan Ops will be playable at Comic-Con

There will be a "huge" amount of book cannon in Halo 4

Lowering and dropping weapons will be supported in multiplayer

Characters specific to the end of Ghost of Onyx will not be in Halo 4. Their stories will be "cleaned up."

EDIT: Video here

Quick Impressions:

Dynamic lighting in the new forge world. No more pre-baked lighting that makes everything look like ass!
Looks better.
Nothing radically different, but improved nonetheless
Magnets,Lock in place, Change areas effects on player
3 Different forge environment types
They showed one that looked like Valhalla (grey)
I'm assuming the other two are Human/Covenant based

I had a chance to play earlier today and it was great. I'll have a detailed write up of it tonight and. Hopefully I'll get a q&a with one of the 343 people.

Bummed about no terrain editing, but I guess that was an unrealistic hope in the first place. The "magnet" feature is a welcome addition. Hopefully having three separate environments for the maps will solve the frame lag issues as well.

Yeah, the magnet feature should be handy. I just hope they have sorted out the performance issues that Reach had when you had too many objects in one place. Also I hope they have got rid of the stupid restrictions for basic objects. I could never finish my Q3DM17 because it never gave me enough Jump Pads. :(

1| I hope they place an emphasis on putting more crazy/unique features in to ensure prolonged freshness in forge.

2| Also, they really need to fix it up thematically. Or we'll reach Halo:Reach levels of staleness quite quickly.

proper lighting will make a HUGE difference in forge. stoked, that was all i was really wishing for.

Agreed. I understand that they imposed those limits in the interest of game performance, but some of them seem completely arbitrary (and unnecessarily low).

Forge is looking very solid in Halo 4 and I'm glad that there's two more forge environments, hopefully one of which is Covenant-themed.

The question is: do these forge environments count as multiplayer maps in and of themselves?

I hope they don't use Forge as a crutch for multiplayer games like Reach did. Hopefully these lighting and different environments will mean good competitive maps aren't all so similar in look.

Also, new shotgun:

Have they said if the Shotgun is a loadout weapon or a map pick-up? After I heard about the possibility of it being in loadouts around E3 time, I started to think of a potential loadout that could be overpowered:

Shotgun
Plasma Pistol
Camo
Plasma Grenades
Quicker AA recharge
Infinite Sprint

Frankie said in the Halo thread a while back there were ten MP maps + the Forge environments.

Lighting changes look good, hopefully that will help to cut out the grey feel of all the maps and the fact that many of them did not fit in with mountains and grass all around.

Magnet and Duplicate are welcome features. I can understand the issue with Undo, so thats ok.

Not sure I like objects changing to the theme of the map. Just give us all of the objects right off the bat. No silly limits or lore reasons. I want access to everything so I can make the maps I want.

Hopefully those themes are Covenant, Human and Forerunner. Also being able to mix the themes would make maps more varied.

Can we also just get some various sized boxes to make stuff in and not the massive empty Forgeworld maps.

I'm hyped. I'm still in love with the Halo series, no matter how hard I try to deny it. Say what you want about Reach, but, I liked it. The campaign was, eh, but, I liked the online.
