Ridiculous. I believe my tower will accommodate but it’s going to be tight. This plus that 1200 psu? I’m done upgrading after am6 drops. For a long-ass time.

- … and in every generation the enthusiast class card will be a significant leap forward.
- But sir, the Moore law is no longer working… They’ll end up being massive and requiring more space and more cables to supply them in the system of the buyers.
- That sounds like a them problem.

That looks more like the Ti variant, IMHO.

Article: chip die size will be larger.
GAF: I'm glad I bought a big case!

Your post is perfect timing. I mean... I've literally just bought this case for my new build ready for the 5090.. nzxt h9 elite.

Just need the PSU, CPU, GPU, RAM. my old 12900k 4090 rig will be going to my son.

Edit: just bought the PSU. Corsair rm1200x

True but at least people don’t think the graphics card itself is 63x65mm and fits inside a Raspberry Pi. Bigger gpu die usually means bigger cooling requirement so the assumption that it’ll be a big card is probably correct.

Looks similar to my Lian Li. Lets hope they put the power connector at a good spot, the cable is bent sharply and touch the glass with my 4090.

Seriously? Of course it is.
Did people really expect this not to be a huge graphic card?
Every time new info gets published about Nvidias high-end GPU's people react as if its shocking stuff. This is all very predictable. Larger cards, higher price etc.
I mean fair enough if it is but we're going into the wrong direction. These things shouldn't be growing in size as much as they have. Soon we'll be back to square one with GPU's being housed in something the size of a small closet. No thanks.

I'll never bother with this line of cards anyway*. It's not as if they suddenly make games magically look better than what they're capable of. At a certain point the only way up is framerate and 900fps on games that don't even support that in terms of animation or logic isn't going to do much for ya (although I guess supersampling is another avenue to explore). Plus we still haven't really gotten into a Crysis 1 situation where there's titles out there that push the hardware past its limits. If anything the only reason we might need GPU's such as the 5090 is to bruteforce the awful optimisation that we've been getting over the past few years.

I got to wonder how many people are really going to drop 2 stacks on this. I am sure the geeks will but only the rich geeks.
Bro, i live in poland, with 4-5x lower salaries than the US and i still bought my 3080ti for 2200euro back in the middle of cryptoboom, as long as perceived value is there, there will be masses of ppl willing to buy the card.
By value i mean performance and to lesser degree wattage(if its actually 600W like leaks suggests it will heat itself/the room like a motherfucker, so if some1 lives in warmer climate it could get bit nasty- both temps wise and noise wise :p ).

Yeah, I see your point. But in order to get that high end maxed out-greatness, these cards will be neccesary. For a few games the 4090 is already struggling if you want that sweet 4K, 240hz maxed out experience. And the 5090 will be the solution to that, hopefully.
Is it neccesary for a good gaming experience? Most definitly not.

Oof, 4K at 240hz? I mean if you've got the equipment to display that sort of thing then I guess budget is a non-issue. Regardless of the high cost of entry though... those seem like some incredibly diminishing returns? I mean more power to ya but there's a point where the perceived benefits are negligible at best.

And if it's made in N3, then that's another 36% more die space that can be used for transistors.
That’s a good point. Larger die and a process shrink all in one. No wonder 5090 is so beefy spec-wise.

If only same was done to 5070 and 5080. Hmm, wonder if the 5090D cards are going to be sold in the West. I mean can always import from Aliexpress but I ain’t doing that with an expensive GPU.

Those newer OLED 4K monitors run at 240hz, and the experience is really lifted when gaming at one of those. At least for me.
I recently got the Aorus fo32u2p, and it's pure bliss.
But with my modest 4070S rig, i'm pretty much just playing a bit older games on it at the moment. Bioshock Infinite looks amazing on it, and for new, demanding games the 5090 will be great with it.

But yeah, small gains for lots of money for sure. And definitly not needed to enjoy this great hobby of ours.
I'm in no way very wealthy btw. But i've been saving for a year to get the 5090/9800X3D rig in january. Just priorities, really. Not spending a lot on any other hobbies.

I always go full tower but cards taking up multiple slots is getting ridiculous. They all need to come with socket braces at this point. I’m not opposed to just making them external boxes with their own power supply at this point either.

Unrelated to the size, but given that current videocards barely take advantage of pcie4 if at all, is there any reason for nvidia to make the 5090 the first pcie 5.0 card?

I read somewhere that some current GPU's have M.2 slots that use the unused pcie lanes. Maybe Nvidia will make that standard.

i am almost positive its going to be pcie gen 5. and the new display port 2.0

Cut the lanes on the lower tiers of course. I expect GB205 to be only 8 lanes and wouldn't be surprised if GB207 is 4.

RTX 4090 384bit 21Gb/s = 1008GB/s raw memory bandwidth
RTX 5090 512bit 28Gb/s = 1792GB/s raw memory bandwidth ( +78% over 4090)

4090 was memory bandwidth starved, we should see a decent uplift in raster for 5090, something around 50%+.
