Helldivers 2 |OT| Another bug infested game

Thinking of jumping back into the game. I haven't played it in a while so not sure what the current state of the loadouts are. Can folks here chime in please?

What are the weapons, stratagems, and loadouts that are generally considered the best after recent buffs/debuffs?
Almost all of them in various combinations depending on enemies and difficulty levels. They did a fantastic job on the balancing the past few months that I've been having a blast running and experimenting with all kinds of setups.

That's good to hear. I joined the game when Railgun was OP. Then I think it was the laser gun combo (flying robot gunships) when I last played the game (a few months ago). I heard they were rebalancing stuff, but not sure if they messed it up or more made weapons fun to play.

Can you please recommend a couple of weapon loadouts that you've been rocking the party with? Would give me a good headstart to just jump right in.

They're pretty much all fun to use now.

For bots, which I mainly run now, I use the scorcher and senator revolver as a side arm or sometimes the new melee weapons (stun baton and stun lance). For support weapon, I run with the recoilless rifle/backpack to take out hulks and tanks. I used to run thermites as an "oh shit" to kill tanks or large objects when I could not get a reload in under fire, but since switched to stun grenades since it renders the bots useless for a few seconds and gives enough time to reload anything. Stun nades works on Hulks too which is a big plus (not tanks, so Hulks and below).

Strats I used to run 500kg or eagle strike and walking barrage, but now I have since opted for eagle strike and either gas orbital or orbital precision strike. Much faster cooldowns. For sentry I use rocket.

Now that is being paired with a buddy who's running the 380, Gatling or auto cannon sentry (depending on mission structure) Gatling for most of the time, auto-cannon sentry for factory walkers. Quasar cannon and shield. He runs the same primary and secondary weapons but uses G-12 high explosive nades.

For the Illuminate, that is a whole different setup. I was having fun last night running two orbitals since they are independent cooldown timers, and refresh much faster than eagles with unlimited usages. So gas strike since it one hit kills their grounded ships with shields (basically their bot factories) and the gas kills the stragglers, and orbital precision is also a one hit kill through the shields.

I also run with a melee stun button and the light or medium Viper Commando set armor with the 100% melee damage increase, main weapon either the SMG-32 Reprimand from Truth Seekers or SG-451 Cookout shotgun since it has a stun pushback and ignites them on fire. Incendiary explosive nades for crowd control, machine gun or laser guard dog rover, and machine gun sentry or new flame sentry. I opt for machine gun versus Gatling since the call in timer is much faster, and they last much longer, and easier to survive friendly fire incidents. It also shreds the illuminate. Once in a while I will swap out an orbital for HMG placement since it wrecks their strider walkers.

I do not bring a support stratagem weapon. There are so many support weapons on the urban maps, you will run into almost everything, also my buddy runs the commando support weapon and the cooldown is so fast he will drop me one for me to carry as an "oh shit" button if I need to use it.

Terminids I will run with the cookout or concussive liberator for pushback for primary, either keep the senator magnum or grenade pistol for bug holes. I also like using the commando or machine gun as a support weapon since the machine gun punches through hole guardians and everything else below that with ease.

Sickle is a really good primary as well for how fast it shoots and low recoil. Also doesn't need resupplies, but there is so much ammo everywhere and resupply timers are shorter than used to be around launch.

Thank you so much. That gives me a lot of ideas to jump right back into it, and then I can make changes and swap weapons in and out based on my gameplay style and preferences.

For democracy!

Anytime. Forgot to add, even though the orbital laser is limited (3) with upgraded ship components, I will swap one of the other orbital strikes for that just to change it up. Much longer cooldown, but it houses illuminate ships and bots/factories as well as everything in between. Longer cooldowns, but a good "oh shit" button. Keeping the gas strike or precision strike alongside since they're only a hair over 1 minute cooldowns with ship upgrades.

i just find it baffling that this sony published title does not have a pro patch yet or at minimum ready along with this recent big update
They acknowledged that they're working on one. FWIW they don't have DLSS either in the PC version.

They have confirmed the Pro patch is a work-in-progress and coming. They are a very small team, and it's their first AAA-ish game, so it's understandable they're a bit slow with all this - especially new tech.

They would also be obviously working on that Pro patch amidst releasing this major content drop.

As new player this is a really helpful guide. Thanks 🙏🏼

They also use an obscure and discontinued engine from Autodesk called Stingray, that probably makes things more difficult in terms of engine updates too.

So I did my first extreme mission last night, holy shit that was bananas , and 1 guy dropped so it was 3 of us and we did every objective and extracted safely, was an amazing and hair raising experience. Was on Fenrir III, defending it for the major order.

was running a level 8 bot mission the other day and was at the end when we had already done all the objectives. the team leader and another diver were already near the EZ and suddenly I got kicked from the session by the team leader. no idea what's the problem since I've been doing objectives on the other side of the map. the leader had kicked another diver earlier when he got killed by friendly fire I think. in any case, joke's on him because I still managed to call the Pelican, hold down the EZ and get out with everything just fine.

been really digging the Spear and HMG Emplacement on bug missions lately. I've always been running light armor with the Blizter on bugs and the Spear is really great to deal with the heavy units. I do wish they can give me more ammo capacity or when I pick up ammo boxes. the HMG Emplacement helps with when the team need to defend a position or just general suppression fire. it's cool down is low enough that you can keep using without worrying too much.

for bots, I've been running the Quasar and Anti-Tank Emplacement. the Quasar allows me to snipe off bot factories (when aim for the vent) and other targets from far away. and the Anti-Tank Emplacement does wonders with pretty much everything on the bot's side.

tried out the WASP Launcher that was given to us by our wonderful Super Earth government and this thing slaps. definitely will be testing it out on bots and bugs later on.

Wow I really don’t get this game. Just bought on a whim and playing solo on PS5 Pro but I don’t get the appeal and frankly I expected better graphics. The menu UI is so confusing to me and I don’t get the gameplay loop. Also, is there a way to pause this game? Had to pee and couldn’t figure out how to pause. I’m playing solo. Surely there must be a way to pause it!

It's an online game even when solo. There's no pause.

What’s not clicking about the gameplay loop?

There's a learning curve for sure. Also the game doesn't have a PS5 Pro patch yet, though they said there is one in the works.

Put the game in a nice relaxing difficulty, press quick play and relax and spread democracy.

Bought it as a present for myself last night and I don’t have friends to play with.
Have I made a terrible mistake?

Def regret buying this. Not having fun at all. Also hate the menus and UI. It’s like one of those free to play Fortnite messy convoluted menus. Must be getting old cause I don’t quite understand how to even get into missions or progress etc. Also really hard game. Bummer, was hoping I’d enjoy it.

Plenty of tutorials to help you get started. I've been playing since launch day and every menu is easy to remember now

Just got this now.

Went through the tutorial stuff and played a couple of missions with randoms.

Not seeing any of the killzone stuff anywhere, take it I'm too late?

Bought the standard edition on PS5 yesterday. I'll be looking through this thread; lots of great info.

Maybe a dumb question because I didn't see (or missed it ) but is therr an option for unableing the haptic triggers?

Reckon I need to learn a lot and have mechanics become second nature before being helpful in any way lol

For what it’s worth I bought this a couple of months ago and also regret the purchase. Normally these kind of games do appeal to me. For example, I loved Exoprimal but for whatever reason couldn’t get into Helldivers 2. I put around 15/20hrs in however the gameplay loop got old very fast. Everytime I played I felt my time would be better spent playing something else.

Still playing the game few times a week with a friend or 2 (and some randos) and still having a blast.

I am especially enjoying the car stratagem, which is pretty rare for me (not a fan of driving in general, irl or game).
Controls are janky at first but once you get use to it, it's pretty fun.
I love going around with a gunner on the turret. Reaching point of interest/objective, parking in front to allow the gunner to shoot and me jumping out of the car to throw more democracy.
Or going to rescue a democratic friend, allowing him to jump in the car as we outrun his pursuers.
I'd just wish, the car would protect us a bit more.

I really want more vehicle in this game. Bring the motorbike, tanks and other armored vehicle from the first game.

Curious to see if we get something for the 1st anniversary. (8th of February)

so looks like the Hellbomb backpack can be armed by either yourself or your teammates. the new Sickle will hurt you with heat damage if you fire for too long (wonder if fire resist armor would help with the self damage). and the 2 new armor sets will blow up after you die. those should make for some chaotic fun in a team 😂

Patch looks fun but still surprised they haven't fixed the Dolby Atmos bug (no sound). Also, looks like no further refinement on the PS5 PRO (I haven't tried the patch yet so maybe something in there that they haven't put in the notes. They didn't advertise the initial PS5 PRO patch either)

ok, so the hatchet is in the super store, along with a set of armor that has that "blow up after u die" perk. the warbond itself is pretty good. the Double Edge Sickle is actually great if you can control brust it. and if you really want to, you can put on fire resist armor and Vitality Booster when you go on mission with it. it'll allow you to not take any damage until the gun overheats and you start burning. and even then, with the fire resist, it takes a while for ur HP to get to dangerous level. and the new "grenade launcher" secondary is pretty good. found out that the Ultimatum can 1 shot Bio-processors Jammers and Towers. with both the DE Sickle and the Ultimatum, I think it's a really great starting setup for bot runs. still need to unlock the Hellbomb backpack and the flying grenade thou. we'll see how good those are.

Did you guys know there are now some places on the map with samples buried in the ground? There is one of the new entrenchment tools nearby. So can spend time.... digging a hole.... for scrap.

Combine that with me jogging 200m in heavy armour to help open a bunker which contains 2 samples and some loose change if we're lucky....

Still good game though
