Horizon Online could be coming 1H 2025...

This was one of the first big PlayStation GAAS inititiative games from PlayStation. They hired the Rainbow Six Siege director Simon Larouche back in 2018.

"While details on Horizon Online remain scarce, it is known that Guerrilla Games, the studio behind the Horizon series, is working on a multiplayer project set in the Horizon universe — a news piece we broke alongside the existence of the Horizon Zero Dawn remaster. This aligns with Sony’s broader strategy of expanding into the live-service multiplayer game space, something the company has heavily invested in recently.

A recent job posting by Guerrilla Games revealed that the studio is looking for a “Release QA Intern,” who will play a crucial role in the pre-launch testing phase of an “online project.” The listing notes that the intern will help ensure the game is ready for launch in the “first half of 2025,” which signals that final testing for Horizon Online could begin soon."

The second best part of the Horzion games are robo dinosaurs. So a online monster hunter like game where you could build armor sets from robo Dios could be fun. Gonna need to do more work on diversifying the combat, but I can see the vision.
Massive overhaul in combat is needed, especially melee. But I don't see how it is not eventually a success. Guerilla is a really talented studio. It may take a couple years after launch to find it, but Sony will give this game numerous chances. Like what Microsoft did for Sea of Thieves

Meanwhile, people be like:

"Why everyone hates Hermen? I don't understand the hate."
I'm waiting to judge Herman on his decisions for the final stretch of this decade. Right now he is at the helm of a ship that was already in motion.

Even if he had a part in it, he wasn't the captain back then. Now he is. There's no point in me getting upset about a project that was already known and being worked on when Jim Ryan was in charge.

Guerrilla should have been going full throttle for 2 years with Horizon 3, making the most of the Decima engine on PS5, and not wasting time on something that no one asked for.
That's not how game development works buddy.

Horizon Online is the game that keeps people at the studio's trenches busy while Horizon III spends a couple of years in pre-production, just as any other AAA game. If Horizon Online weren't in the works, that wouldn't have made Horizon III come out any earlier than 2027 either. You have to look no further than to Sucker Punch - a one-project-at-a-time studio - to know that Sony-style open-world AAA games take a minimum of five years to get made no matter what.

So, raise your hands, those who wanted this game to be developed. And explain why you need it. I'm just curious to hear...

I paid good money for this Dynex!
There's no need for this to exist. In fact, it probably shouldn't exist. What possible purpose could it serve? This is a game developed out of spite, hubris, and probably a couple hundred million dollars they hopefully won't make back.

Loads of games I loved I never asked for. I never wanted a pirate based Assassin's Creed. I never wanted a gravity mangling Mario. I didn't think I wanted Medal of Honour's take on Saving Private Ryan. This might be a sack of shite, or GOTY, who knows. It's interesting though, which isn't often the case.

I've never asked for a kick in the balls, but I'm pretty sure I still don't want one.

I'd say they may release some open alpha/beta in H1 2025, but the full release would be H2 2025 or even 2026 considering they may do extra playtesting and tweaking before release.

Some fanboys hate PlayStation, and focus their hate on its visible face.

For me online is okay, as long it is not infested with twisted DEI and woke agenda. And as long it is not a GAAS, just a online MP game just like hell divers 2.

They can barely break 5 million at full price on the mainline series now the Lego game is shit. Who is this for exactly?

Single player fans won’t be interested so do they expect the PC crowd to drop Valorant, Apex, Warzone or Fortnite for this?…

Between this & Concord it feels like Sony can’t (or, more likely, won’t) read the room.

I think most people would agree Horizon isn’t a badly made game. Is it a bit middling with generic open world gameplay? Sure. But it’s not BAD and I’m sure a third entry would sell just fine.

But they’re treating it like it’s the next Legend of Zelda when it’s pretty clear it’s just not that. The first game still looked great and did not need a remake, let alone a LEGO Remake of it. I could see this failing even if it’s technically/mechanically good due to market fatigue.

They really should have been keeping some of their other legacy franchises and Japan studio around to round their portfolio out, it feels like the “Gears/Halo/Forza” Xbox meme can be applied to Sony’s handling of the PS5. They’re losing the quirkiness that differentiated them from Microsoft.

I mean...I could see a version of this that could be fun.
Give it a similar art style to the core games, let people create their own cool and/or hot looking characters with plenty of customization options, put the story on the background and have it be some fun Monster Hunter style game where you hunt dino mechs with your buddies.

But watch it be some boring survival crafting crap with a Fortnite art style and ugly pre defined characters designed for modern audiences.

Cool. It's one of the few MMOs I'm interested in checking out. I would like something like Monster Hunter, where you have to prepare with other people by coming up with strategies, craft traps, food for buffs, etc, but with the Horizon mechs and all that implies for gameplay. I do hope they evolved the art and graphics a lot since the last leak, though. I've grown a bit weary of that kind of art style.

What a waste of resources.
If it's a success then it isn't a waste at all.

I don't like GaaS or MMO's generally (although I had fun with Tera when it first came out playing co-op with the missus and I do really like Destiny, especially Destiny 1) but I'll take a wait and see approach as I really like the Horizon world. In fact if it's similar to Destiny in that it's fully open world that you can wander solo but then you get random encounters/public events with massive machines or stampedes that you can then team up with to take them down to get loot then I can see that being of real interest to me (basically, very much PVE and not PVP, although PVP arenas within the game world is fine if I could just ignore them)

And who said that this is MMO? It may turn out to be a banal clone of Monster Hunter but with robots, by the way, I will not be surprised at all by such an outcome =)

I'm just going by most reports online calling it an "MMORPG"
