Definitely going to snag some of these also. Some of your selections have made it to other people's lists also, so they must be good!

Meh, The Human Centipede did nothing to me, maybe I'm just really fucked up or something, I was expecting to be horrified. Left me dissatisfied.params7 said:Yeah A Serbian Film isn't just for any horror movie addict..I think if you can tolerate The Human Centipede then maybe you might make it through A serbian film. Also these movies are more of fucked up gore thrillers than horror.
BotoxAgent said:well the first half of Martyrs really scared and creeped the hell out of me....so much that I ended up throwing away the cover of the DVD case, lol (my cover had the creepy bathtub one)
Muddimar said:There is a subbed or dubbed version right?

NotTheGuyYouKill said:Recently, Trick 'R Treat is something I've really enjoyed. It's a very fun movie, if not exactly the scariest.
I dont really find these new wawe shock/gore films unpleasent to watch but just rather boring. Internet has dulled my senses long time ago for such material. All the gore some of the directors like to play with is just waste of time for me. I like my horror movies to have good story, atmoshphere and suspense. Haven't seen audition in over 10 years so I don't remember if it was any good, book is great tho.icarus-daedelus said:That's not really the intent of Martyrs at all. If you found it nasty and unpleasant to watch, maybe that's a good thing? It's not supposed to have any fun or catharsis. Unlike "shock" movies, all of the gore in Martyrs has a purpose which is thoroughly justified within the film and is meant to be unnerving and unpleasant - something that a lot of horror movies seem to miss entirely for me. Audition is similar in that sense (and I'm kind of kicking myself for not listing that instead of The Beyond.)
Probably the most genuinely horrifying film I've ever seen outside of the Russian war movie Come and See.

Simon Belmont said:I couldn't get past the stupid and unrealistic choice people made all the way through the movie.Car breaks down? Walk through the woods! Partner got shot? Walk right into the room and stand directly in the place he was hit without even taking a glance around the room!
NotTheGuyYouKill said:I'm still wondering why TrT doesn't have a sequel. From what I've heard, the director has an idea for it, but there's been no movement on it, which sorta sucks.
icarus-daedelus said:Great. But Martyrs is not a shock movie. Have you even seen it or are you just prejudging based on its reputation?
Count Dookkake said:Studio abandoned the film after changing heads. It was not given a proper release in case it overshadowed other films on the slate. That's why it sat on the shelf for so long. If they had given it a real theatrical distribution, there would already be a sequel.
I don't remember seeing George Clooney in Dawn of the Dead.ChefRamsay said:If anyone has seen Dawn of the Dead whereGeorge Clooney walks in on his brother's murder in the hotel room
ChefRamsay said:Okay so this might not be the right thread to ask this in but we'll see.
The only, only, ONLY thing that has any effect on me in horror movies is ultra-quick flashes of dead or brutally injured people. If anyone has seen Dawn of the Dead whereor in Sunshine whereGeorge Clooney walks in on his brother's murder in the hotel roomthen you know what I'm talking about.the crew enters the vacant ship as images of the dead original crew start flashing on screen
I want more of that. Without spoiling when it happens in the movie, can you guys recommend some movies that have more of this?
After this and the first reply to this thread I will definitely be checking it out this weekend. Thanks.icarus-daedelus said:Event Horizon is the exact movie you're looking for.
Yes you are correct, edited mistake! I always get those two titles mixed upBattleMonkey said:Think the Clooney scene you are talking about was Dust till Dawn, not Dawn of the Dead
reminder said:The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (i like the remake more than the original)
Wrong Turn (first one, skip 2 & 3)
The Hills Have Eyes (first one, second one is "ok")
Wolf Creek
Motel
Reeker (really liked the idea)
Hostel
The Hitcher
Yeah, i really like movies like those.

start here.
Mr. Snrub said:Why the hell would he start here? The third act is a fucking mess and ruins anything the rest of the move established. It does have some genuine moments, though.
Start with Alien or The Thing, or The Haunting.
Steamlord said:I first saw The Ring (the remake) when I was about ten years old. It pretty much scarred me for life.
teruterubozu said:This movie used to scare the piss out of me.
fludevil said:It won't anymoreI saw for the first time a few weeks ago. I loved it, but it was pretty cheesy.
fludevil said:If I hated Frontier(s) and Audition, should I even bother with Martyrs or High Tension? They look to be in a similar vein, and therefore, not scary, just gory.
Count Dookkake said:These are all very different films. Any comparison between them is tenuous at best.
teruterubozu said:Ah, oh well. Such is horror films - they rarely age well. I remember the "transmission from the future" part freaked me out.
icarus-daedelus said:Yes, absolutely. I hated High Tension, and you are exactly right about Frontier(s).
